After visiting over 30 venues, from New Jersey to the north fork of Long Island (including catering halls, wineries, vineyards and free standing barns), all it took was one look at Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport for our daughter to announce that "this is where I'm getting married." We immediately made an appointment with the owner, Lia, for the following weekend. Unlike most venues, where you are told how the wedding will be structured (cocktail hour here, reception there), at Jedediah Hawkins you have much more flexibility, depending upon your personal vision. You have full access to the dining room and solarium in the Inn, the outdoor patio (with tables and seating), the barn, and a large lawn area. You have the freedom to choose from all of these options. In addition, unlike most other venues, Jedediah Hawkins is home to a top notch and popular restaurant (more on that later). Our daughter chose to have her July 9th ceremony in the barn (air conditioned), the cocktail hour on the patio (additional seating in the restaurant also for anyone who wanted to sit indoors), and the reception under a tent on the lawn. An outdoor ceremony is also a popular option here because of the beautiful setting. Everything flowed seamlessly the entire day. During the reception, we had dinner and dancing under the tent, while guests could also stroll the grounds, play lawn games, or relax in the adirondack chairs. There's no need for a photo booth when the scenery is as stunning as it is here. You can take pictures in front of the wisteria or with the adjacent farm as a backdrop. The youngest kids even had room to run around on the lawn, while still being close to their families. We met with Tyler, the chef, a few weeks before the wedding to finalize the menu, based on what ingredients would be fresh and available that time of year. The passed hors d'ouvres ranged from tuna tartare with Dijon and shallot to sliders with Gruyere cheese, and crab cakes with lemon aioli to dates wrapped in maple glazed bacon. We also had a Tuscan table with a wide range of breads, dips, cheeses, meats and fruits. All of the food was delicious, fresh and beautifully displayed. In addition to being a gourmet chef, Tyler has an extensive background in high end catering for up to several hundred guests at a time. This was clear during the reception, as the food was served quickly and efficiently to every table. Our entree choices were roasted branzino filet with root vegetables, and summer short ribs with corn, tomato and asparagus succotash (along with an excellent vegetarian option). Everything was perfectly prepared and beautifully plated, just as you receive in their excellent restaurant. Lia, Colin (manager of the Inn), Grace (our daughter's bridal attendant -and much more) and the entire staff are committed to ensuring that your event follows your personal vision, rather than any pre-determined formula or schedule. While Lia will have a list of recommended outside vendors, there are no restrictions if you choose your own. You are required to reserve all 6 rooms at the Inn on the night of your event (each with its own theme, comfortable and beautifully appointed - the Belvedere Suite is beyond compare), but that also includes a delicious breakfast the following morning, as well as passes to several local vineyards for wine tasting. It was a perfect finish to an unforgettable weekend. In short, while we set our expectations very high, they were exceeded in every way possible. This review is purely for the beauty of the downstairs and basement area of Inn, the outside, and the bar. My friends and I came here when we were visiting them out in Eastern Long Island. I had heard of the Inn before because of his haunted reputation so I was excited to come here. The Inn itself is very lovely and beautiful. It is decorated in the Victorian fashion and probably stays pretty true to what it looked like historically. You can see that in the decor, furniture, and just general feeling of the Inn. They have done a very nice job taking advantage of the rich history with the building. The building is falling in disrepair in some spots and could use a little love, especially on the outside. Some parts of the porch are crumbling and need paint. My friends and I got some drinks at the bar and took them while we walked around and took in the Inn. The wine list is small at the bar but they showcase some lovely wines from nearby vineyards. There are a few cocktails on the menu, which my husband got and didn't love. I think I would stick with the wine here unless they get a better mixologist. We took our drinks and went down in the basement which has been kept pretty much as it was in the Victorian times. The walls are all stone and the floor is brick. The bartender pointed out the hallway which is speculated to have either been there for gun running or perhaps this was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The hallway used to go all the way out to the barn, but has since been filled in. After a bit, we took our drinks outside and sat on the porch. The view is really lovely and it was a great day to do this. As I mentioned before, the porch needs a little work on it. It was still a lovely experience. The grounds are quite pretty. There is a lovely gazebo you can sit in and a barn where they hold events. It's really beautiful inside and would be a great spot to have a wedding or a party! I would love to come back and stay at the Inn sometime!

We went there for dinner. The grounds are breathtaking. Entering and approaching the bar area, you feel as if you've stepped back in time. Majestic comes to mind. The woodwork, the lighting fixtures, the tables, the chairs - all a part of history. Dinner was superb - the food, the servers, the wine, the ambiance. And best of all, it won't break the bank. Very fairly priced. Looking forward to returning.

Just came back from my friend's gorgeous and intimate wedding here at this Inn. I stayed at the Inn which was both convenient and so luxurious.. I stayed in the "Cocoa" room which had dark walls and a very modern vibe, with internet TV, Frette robes, ultra comfy bed, gas fireplace and heated bathroom floors. The Inn only has a small number of rooms but there are plenty of hotel options nearby where other friends stayed. Location convenient for out of towners- I took the LIRR to Westhampton stop and then it was a 20 minute cab ride to the Inn. The Jitney stop is literally a block away from the Inn which was super convenient to walk to on my way back to Manhattan. The grounds are storybook beautiful, perfect lawn, flowers everywhere and the grounds can apparently hold small to large weddings. The restaurant is one of the best in the area and it is so pretty as it's largely glass enclosed so you feel like you are in a charming greenhouse - perfect for guests to congregate for breakfast or lunch there before the festivities. There is a casual and cozy "speakeasy" downstairs with a bar and couches/chairs and tables where the bride did casual heavy apps (sliders and tacos were amazing) the night before. It had a icomfy/cozy vibe that made for an intimate setting to catch up with friends. The wedding itself was outdoors and in front of a beautiful old barn. The barn inside was rustic modern with a bathroom, bar, dance floor and rustic dining tables and chairs -- simple and elegant. Highly recommend staying here, eating here or holding a wedding here, it is very well run and the level of service from the staff was extraordinary!
