Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, Hawaii

If Turtle Bay Resort's idyllic locale looks familiar, you might have seen Magnum P.I., the original Hawaii Five-O or Forgetting Sarah Marshall – all of them filmed at Oahu's fabled North Shore. The resort unveiled newly renovated rooms in 2014 that utilize cool Polynesian colors and natural rattan. Chase your pipeline dreams at one of world's premier surf schools or wander to the privacy of a windswept beach. Part of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, Turtle Bay's waters offer sanctuary to whales, monk seals, green turtles and dolphins.

Go for a morning run on 12 miles of seaside paths through marshes, beaches and Banyan forests. Keep an eye out for sea turtles basking in the sun. Check out what's happening on the Banzai pipeline – if it's wintertime, waves could reach 50 feet. Retreat to calmer waters to relax or paddle board. Feast on Kona coffee-rubbed rack of New Zealand lamb overlooking the churning tide at Pa'akai restaurant.

What a great resort- it was very extravagant and relaxing! I loved it- great area- we saw plenty of turtles- but definitely need a hire car to get there from Honolulu and all around- why not get a convertible?!!!

Top amenities and view compliments this resort in North Shore. Great place to unwind and relax! Our favorite stop in HawaII ! There was surfing trials going on when we were there . Watching them surf added to our vacation !

TBR is all about the views, the surf, and the trade wind breezes. The main hotel property and the vista levels rooms are adequate but it is the views and the energetic surf that really make this property. It's due for a make over with rooms turned into true suites rather than pass through doors that rattle all night long with the wind. The modern and funky sliding glass walls for the bathroom is an overdone design trend. Not functional or attractive after five minutes of wondering who came up with the idea. Then there is the view. It gets you every time. Staff was friendly and vista level service was worth the extra price. Food on the property was awesome even if a little pricy. We avoided the pool (we have one of our own) and focused on the beach - beautiful. Just the right amount of surf and swell but the sand could use a cleaning. Turtles visited every day feeding in the lagoon in the mornings. Beds and the pillows are due for replacement though - firm and firmer was our experience.

A friend recommended spending the day at this resort. I was not a hotel guest but I was able to buy food and drinks at the bars and lay on the beach (it's a public beach). Staff was super nice, drinks and food were good. Highly recommend.

This resort was amazing! It's up in the North Shore, away from the craziness of Honolulu. The rooms are spacious, clean and updated. There is a great pool, hot tub, and pool bar. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beach is beautiful and umbrellas/chairs are free for guests (first come first serve), as opposed to other resorts that make you pay. There's also plenty of activities such as surfing, paddle boarding, helicopter tours, horseback riding, etc. My husband and I also walked the trail that takes you to a hidden beach and banyan tree. There is a nightclub Wed-Saturday open, and the hotel has lots of different activities. Great place for friends, a couple, and definitely for the kids. The way the hotel is located, almost every side of the hotel has an ocean view! My only one warning is that because it's in such a secluded spot, you have the options for restaurants at the resort and that's about it unless you want to drive 20 min or so. however, there are quite a few options to choose from, and there's also food trucks in the area.
