The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Kapalua, Maui

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, hidden within the folds of Maui's verdant landscape, is the picture of posh. This decorated AAA Five-Diamond Award beachfront resort, which recently underwent a $180-million transformation, sits on a 54-acre expanse and is more magnificent than ever. From the airy guest rooms to the half-dozen restaurants, The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua will amaze even the most seasoned of travelers. Its stylish rooms boast new furnishings and amenities, including dark wood floors, flat-panel televisions, sleek marble bathrooms with showers and separate tubs, spacious lanais, and island-inspired artwork. Insomniacs will enjoy the convenience of the 24-hour ocean view fitness center and yoga studio. Perhaps the resort's piece de resistance, though, is the addition of a new 17,500-square-foot spa retreat boasting 15 plush treatment rooms, private outdoor shower gardens, a pair of al fresco couples cabanas, plus relaxation areas fashioned after volcanic stone grottos and outfitted with whirlpools, steam rooms and saunas.

The resort, framed by a pair of championship golf courses, offers savory restaurants including the new Japanese destination Kai Sushi. You will also enjoy direct beach access, cultural offerings and the resort's own eco-adventure program. Unwind in the 10,000-square-foot tri-level swimming pool, surrounded by a sun deck twice its size, or spend time with your family at the new children's pool. Stay close to home as you explore the island's western edge with its collection of bays and trio of sandy beaches. Nature lovers can traipse along winding trails brushing past an abundance of fragrant flowers and native trees planted centuries ago by ancestral Polynesians and Hawaiians.

I visited with my husband and 17 month old over Thanksgiving weekend and had such a wonderful time. The highlights for us were the wonderful family outdoor photography session we booked through the concierge with the hotel's on-site photography company (the photographer Bryan was amazing with our daughter), walking all around the resort and down to the beach, and the fantastic breakfast buffet at the Terrace restaurant. We had a deluxe ocean view room, and the view was beautiful. The property is huge and my daughter had so much fun running around on the grass and chasing birds. The pools are very nice and well kept. Rooms are slightly dated but have a nice aesthetic. I would love to go back again soon, we had such a wonderful stay.

Ritz property is surrounded by mountains and it is beautiful. View from our room had mountain on one side and Ocean on the other. Loved it. Visited with family/kids and residential suit is worth it with the amenities like kithcen/separate living room

We loved our stay at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. Adore (the host) made sure we were well taken care of and made terrific recommendations. Restaurants were excellent. We stayed through the Thanksgiving holiday and we had the best breakfast of our lives (turkey carving station... unbelievable!) Great location. Not sure how it could be any better!

It's rain a lot during our stay but we got to see beautiful rainbows as trade off afterwards. We got champagne, treats and greeting cards from the staff to celebrate our anniversary and my zero birthday!!! Breakfast at the Terrace was a bit high but supper yummy. Good burgers and shakes too at the Burger Shack with awesome view of DT Fleming beach. Happy hours at the Banyan tree was a great deal with half off pupus. Overall we got a blast, definitely will come back!!!

Beautiful property and super friendly and warm staff all around. Choices for food, however, is a little lacking on property. Kai Sushi was closed when we visited and you can only dine at the Banyan tree so many times. Please note that Kapalua gets awful weather during Nov/Dec months. It rained on us the entire week we were there. We drove ten minutes south to Lahaina to catch some sun.
