The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Kapalua, Maui

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, hidden within the folds of Maui's verdant landscape, is the picture of posh. This decorated AAA Five-Diamond Award beachfront resort, which recently underwent a $180-million transformation, sits on a 54-acre expanse and is more magnificent than ever. From the airy guest rooms to the half-dozen restaurants, The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua will amaze even the most seasoned of travelers. Its stylish rooms boast new furnishings and amenities, including dark wood floors, flat-panel televisions, sleek marble bathrooms with showers and separate tubs, spacious lanais, and island-inspired artwork. Insomniacs will enjoy the convenience of the 24-hour ocean view fitness center and yoga studio. Perhaps the resort's piece de resistance, though, is the addition of a new 17,500-square-foot spa retreat boasting 15 plush treatment rooms, private outdoor shower gardens, a pair of al fresco couples cabanas, plus relaxation areas fashioned after volcanic stone grottos and outfitted with whirlpools, steam rooms and saunas.

The resort, framed by a pair of championship golf courses, offers savory restaurants including the new Japanese destination Kai Sushi. You will also enjoy direct beach access, cultural offerings and the resort's own eco-adventure program. Unwind in the 10,000-square-foot tri-level swimming pool, surrounded by a sun deck twice its size, or spend time with your family at the new children's pool. Stay close to home as you explore the island's western edge with its collection of bays and trio of sandy beaches. Nature lovers can traipse along winding trails brushing past an abundance of fragrant flowers and native trees planted centuries ago by ancestral Polynesians and Hawaiians.

I am a Platinum Ritz Carlton Guest. Unfortunately this experience may be my last. Whilst the staff are to be commended, the hotel itself is lacking in comparison to its peers. This hotel has paper thin walls, lifts that do not work and staff that are unaware of pertinent issues that are integral to guest satisfaction. I usually stay 70-90 nights per year in hotels, and have to say that these basic issues are never experienced at a St Regis or Four Seasons Hotels, or Luxury Collection or Luxury Hotels of the World. Drilling starts at 830am in the morning, when I called front desk, they were unaware it was occurring, and it continued until 10am even though they said they would speak to their Manager. I never heard back from either member. The paper thin walls mean that you can hear your neighbours talking, sneezing and even running or walking upstairs. I am sorry but even when I stayed at a Holiday Inn these basic issues were not a problem. I believe this hotel has been marked a Ritz Carlton on the outside, the staff try very hard to uphold that image, but deep down it is only a facade. I am sorry but as a Platinum Guest, I believe many other elite guests understand what it means to be valued and feel taken care of. I did not feel either of these from Ritz Carlton. To add insult to injury, I found good particles in my bedsheets the first night of check in. This is utterly disgraceful for a hotel of this calibre. I was so disgusted that complaining seemed futile, if staff are willing to overlook this basic detail, there is no point in communicating these basic fundamental hotel hospitality issues, which is absolutely unexpected for a Ritz Carlton. The only redeeming factor was Joe, the shuttle driver, and Josiah and James from Valet, who went out of their way to make me feel valued.

Its really difficult to review this resort in a few sentences . I’ll try .The Location is fantastic for me . Quiet and removed from the busy vibe in kaanapali and Lahaina . Yet only 15 - 20 min away . Kapalua is posh ! This is a very wealthy area but I did not find it stuffy at all... .on the contrary ...everyone was easy going and very friendly. Gorgeous shops , streets , houses . Very clean and squared away . The golf courses here are rated top in the country , but you don’t have to play golf . The location of the hotel is near the NW tip of Maui. Gorgeous views everywhere. Wonderful beach just a quick walk away ( or complimentary ride with Joe in the electric cart ) ...DT Fleming . Ritz Burger Shack there serves xlnt burgers and has a full bar . You will hang out there a lot ! They have everything you need there ...full Ritz service ...tables , chairs , lounges , sun , shade , lotion , sun glasses ! Great beach . The hotel is very nice , pleasant , and spacious . Well designed , beautifully decorated ( especially at Christmas) . It is built on a gentle expansive slope that spreads out beautifully toward the ocean . It is built in a U shape , and in the middle of the U are 3 large cascading gorgeous pools , with fantastic tropical landscaping . First class . The hotel is 6 floors tall , with views toward the pool area , or toward garden areas. Best views are out farthest toward the ocean , on the 2 points of the U . My room was very nice , very clean , nice balcony with table and chairs and singing birds , great friendly room service . The staff here is fantastic. All very friendly and remember your name ! 4 Concierges are fantastic ...they can cheerfully and professionally assist you with anything . Reserve restaurants and activities thru them ...good to have the Ritz help you. All valet parking , and the guys are great . Friendly and fast . Restaurants are all very nice ...good food , xlnt service . Must reserve . Great sunsets out on the Dragon Tooth ,and sacred burial area on the point . Be very careful walking out there . Respect the power and danger of the ocean . This is a top resort ...it deserves its 5 stars . It is very pricey unless you travel in the “soft seasons”.

This place blew me away, from the nespresso machine, the very nice rooms, even their soap smelled great. Wonderful views. The breakfast buffet is a must, and the waiter was probably the best I’ve had anywhere, engaging, informative, and helpful. He recommended a bay not far away that the hotel transports to and we got to snorkel with turtles! The rental was like $10 so worth it!!!!

I visited with my husband and 17 month old over Thanksgiving weekend and had such a wonderful time. The highlights for us were the wonderful family outdoor photography session we booked through the concierge with the hotel's on-site photography company (the photographer Bryan was amazing with our daughter), walking all around the resort and down to the beach, and the fantastic breakfast buffet at the Terrace restaurant. We had a deluxe ocean view room, and the view was beautiful. The property is huge and my daughter had so much fun running around on the grass and chasing birds. The pools are very nice and well kept. Rooms are slightly dated but have a nice aesthetic. I would love to go back again soon, we had such a wonderful stay.
