Key West is a romantic destination with hints of nostalgia. Images of Ernest Hemingway hunched over a typewriter come to mind as well as black-and-white frames of Bogie and Bacall. Heron House, a AAA Four-Diamond Award inn, is another quintessential element of the Florida Keys. Originally built between 1856 and 1860, the hideaway recaptures the southern charm and genteel way of life. There are 23 elegantly crafted rooms and suites, with no two alike, offering a tapestry of tropical appointments. Hunker down in a bed made of rattan cloaked in colorful fabrics, with granite-trimmed bathrooms and original watercolor paintings. Some rooms feature stained-glass transom windows, wooden walls crafted by skilled artisans, or private decks and balconies festooned with leafy plants.

Location good, we liked our room convenient to the pool. Nice little breakfast. Room small, needed hooks to hang towels for drying.

Great little place. Our room was gorgeous, with a super comfy bed. Complimentary continental breakfast with eggs, sausage patties, and coffee. Nice pool in the courtyard, and garden with water fountain/fish tank. A bit pricey, but most places are. It’s hard to beat the location. The Heron House is an adjacent block away from all the nightlife and shops on Duval street. Also about a 15 minute walk to the southern most point in the continental US, as well as, a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction to the sunset pier and boardwalk. Lastly, but certainly not least, the property comes with a resident cat named Mary. She’s super friendly, affectionate, and loves to snug if she’s allowed in the room with you. I highly recommend, and would definitely come again.

We arrived on a Thursday for 2 nights. Patrick and Trent were very communicative with telling us where to park. There are 4 streets and we parked on William, 2 up and walked, it was free and our car stayed there without leaving till Sat morning. The location is awesome. It's nestled in a quaint neighborhood, pretty quiet considering its 1 street up from Duval. You could hear music Thurs night but the AC blocked the music. The room had all that you needed. Room #12. Desk chair, TV, mini fridge, bathroom had towels and soap, 2 pool towels, closet with a safe etc. The bed was a bit hard but was fine. The blinds on the glass doors were good, but one was cut too short so it let the light in from the outside porch light, we just put a towel over it so it wasn't bright at night in our room. We put the plaquard on the door to make up the room and came back to new towels which truly is all we wanted and the bed, well lets just say my kids could've done a better job. They made the bed by throwing the bedspread on top of the pillows, just looked messy, not the way it was when we got there, minor detail. Two nice patio chairs and a table. Lovely place. Breakfast was included, continental. They did offer eggs and sausages but its microwaved eggs, not made to order, had them they were fine but that was a little off putting. Hence 4 instead of 5 stars. The cabana by the pool had the tea/coffee/water station and 4pm was snack and drinks. We could walk everywhere from Heron House. The pool was well maintained. Quiet too there.

Filthy, mildew, bathroom door dirty and didn’t close, hair in shower drain, dried substance stuck to sheet. Pictures available. Management unresponsive to follow up (hung up on phone call). We were return guests and sad at condition deterioration since last visit.

This little oasis is such a pleasant experience. Beautiful colonial style key west hotel. The swimming pool is nice and clean. The breakfast is simple but great and the staff members are all super nice. Location is also amazing if you want to be close to everything but not in the middle of the noise of Duval Street. Please take care of Mary the cat. She likes to cuddle and preferably stay in the room with you. She lives under the chair in front of room 7.
