The Staff of the Sarojin make it wonderful - they are so friendly and attentive. The grounds and pool are amazing, as is the stretch of private beach with beach attendants who bring iced water as soon as you sit down. The rooms are great - perhaps the toilet area with only three walls can be lacking in privacy a little. Dining options are fantastic - and the all-day breakfast is great. The chefs are wonderful. There is easy access by shuttle or taxi to the nearby towns and markets. Sarojin will arrange for trips to local attractions, or you can borrow a bike. I wasn't a fan of the pebbles in the bathroom - I kept expecting a spider or snake to crawl out, even though the pest exterminator comes pretty regularly. The major criticism we had was that the resort is not mobility-friendly - there are no handrails to get up the somewhat slippery steps from the (amazing) pool and no handrails on any of the stairs to reception. Some steps (e.g. in a pool residence) are not clearly marked at night, and there are changes in levels in The Edge restaurant which a few people tripped over. Since night falls early and there is a LOT of rain in the rainy season, it is important that guests have something to grab hold of if they slip. The resort provides torches and umbrellas. It is difficult to share a room with another adult who is not your partner because the trundle bed is only child-size. However, all in all, it is a once-in-a lifetime experience.

What a gorgeous property. Large grounds with low rise spacious and beautiful rooms. Service was fantastic. The Edge restaurant has fantastic food. Breakfast is served all day. A relaxing and romantic get-away spot. Secluded and quiet for couples.

I think there are 2 types of 5*... glitzy, large, fancy, glam, show off type 5* and then the other type; The Sarojin! Stunningly beautiful, peaceful, understated but excellent, quietly extravagant, perfect! My husband and I stayed for 10 nights and we could have stayed longer! We had a pool villa, which was fantastic. It was great to have your own garden space, we also had candlelit dinner at our garden table a couple of evenings. The Thai restaurant on the beach is fantastic; they do a bbq a couple of nights with cooking demonstrations and Thai dancers, again excellent. We spent most of our days on the beach which was very quiet, always kept topped up with cold water and often we were brought fruit. There was more of a breeze on the beach rather than the pool area which was the only reason we chose the beach over the pool. The hotel arranged a trip to Phang Nga Elephant Park for us and I highly recommend. A driver and a guide from the hotel go with you. The whole day was fantastic. If you like a very quiet, boutique style hotel... you will love it here.

The Sarojin was highly recommended because of its quiet location some 1.5 hours away from the hustle and bustle of Phuket. Also the boutique size of the hotel at only 56 residences. This makes the Sarojin seem all the more intimate and with a high ratio of staff to guests you are assured of excellent service at all times. Staff often use your names and offer a genuinely warm welcome especially at breakfast. I would like to personally thank Aoy at Ficus for her kindness and for teaching me some key Thai phrases. We stayed for 6 nights in a garden residence but were offered a spa residence for our final night which was lovely. All the residences are of a high standard and thoughtful touches included. The attention to detail is clearly evident and the ethos that the (British) owners had when opening the hotel some 16 years ago is still maintained. According to the General Manager Khao Lak is like Phuket was 30 years ago i.e. quiet, tranquil and not over developed. If you are looking for a sophisticated hideaway then the Sarojin is for you. The prices vary but are generally fair. Wine, however, is steep so be aware. A tip would be the Thai 'tasting menu' at the Edge (beside the beach) which is excellent value. Also 'happy hour' from 5-6:30pm - really worth it! Another excellent feature is the 'all day breakfast' which you can have anytime from 6am - 5pm. Any combination of items from the menu. Avoids the mad rush to avoid missing breakfast - excellent!

This resort is all you ever wished for. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the rooms are beautiful, and the whole place is just like a small paradise. The restaurants in the resort are excellent especially the ficus restaurant! It's not a cheap resort compared to other Thai resorts but it definitely worth the price.
