The Sanctuary embodies perfection at every level. The manner in which you are greeted, checked in and the cordial staff creates an atmosphere of total comfort. All aspects of this fine hotel are top notch. It is not "stuffy", just polite and comfortable. Definitely a special place.

If you do not have $1-2,000 per night for lodging, I highly recommend you eat a relaxing lunch in their restaurant. Food, drinks and service are memorable and the scenery and landscaping fabulous. If you go out the back door you can relax a minute in a lounge chair and watch the ocean. Be sure and visit the gift shop as the wide brimmed hat I bought is being used frequently - I live in FL. A lunch you need to add to your Charleston checklist for sure - so relaxing!

We went into the lobby bar for a drink at the end of the afternoon. The room is beautiful, classic old time cocktail lounge with traditional stuffed furniture and old wooden tables, but with a view of the ocean that made it unique. Great service and fabulous martinis.

Minus the details, we were traveling through the low country of SC, tired from several days of driving and needed a good night's sleep in a really quiet room. Working with the front desk they actually took us to see 3 options, allowing us to pick the one we thought was quietest. Props to Seanen (sp?) and Matthew for delivering exceptional service along with genuine kindness. The room was perfect, in-room dining did a great job and we got the needed sleep we had made ourselves overdue for. Would love to come back and enjoy the resort. If you've been traveling several days and need a break from usual traveler hotels with AC systems that wake you up every time they come on, indulge yourself at The Sanctuary.

I stayed for a long weekend at The Sanctuary and it was fantastic. Highlights: service, beach and the rooms. Wesley and Robert were both particularly excellent staff members. While they do not have a lot of vegan food, they were accommodating and their options were good (other than for breakfast, which was underwhelming).
