Long weekend, birthday celebration. Lovely hotel with attentive staff. Our room is very tastefully done. Love the bathroom. We did one of the Kirkland Wine Walks which was great fun. Walking through Kirkland. Nice ships. Looking forward to a nice seafood dinner at Anthony's tonight.

I had a king sized bedroom and it was spotless and quiet (except the heater made a noise and I turned it off at night). The bed was fantastic! I ordered room service breakfast and it came when expected. That being said there was a problem with water in bathroom. It came out cold even though I had it on hot. It wasn't until I ran the shower water all the way on hot, that I started getting hot water in sink. I took showers with the water totally on hot and it was just warm not scalding as it should have been. I notified front desk and they were to look at it, but it was same way next day. I would stay here again because it is a short walk to the downtown area and hotel has an excellent restaurant!

This hotel has changed in almost every way, and not for the better, since being taken over by Columbia Management. It’s now “fine” instead of “great.” And I get the impression that exactly what they want. The front desk staff? Less well trained, less welcoming, less helpful. No newspapers delivered to your room door anymore in the AM. The restaurant now opens for breakfast at 6:30 instead of 6:00. The food is tasty enough, but more expensive and lacking the touch of (now gone) chef Brian Scheeser. The rooms have been renovated. The “choose your bed” system has been retained, thankfully, and the TempurPedic mattresses are still awesome. I requested one specifically on my reservation... and the room I was originally assigned was on the second floor (pillow top mattresses) not the third floor (TempurPedic). Fortunately, I noticed this during checkin and got it fixed. The original Heathman dysfunctional guest room furniture and lack of electrical outlets has been replaced with better alternatives (definitely a positive) but the previous classy neutral tones (described as “boring” by one of the newer hotel staff) has been replaced with bolder, “more distinctly Northwestern” motif. Which means bold prints and dark blue walls, apparently. Which clashes with the (mostly unchanged) decor of the corridors and common areas. Not a good change, in my opinion. One thing seemingly hasn’t changed at all: Rooms are spotless and the housekeeping is exceptional. The overall effect of the Columbia takeover has been to move the Heathman down a notch, from a luxury boutique hotel to more of a typical commodity offering. It’s sad. I miss the former staff and their friendliness, competence, and efficiency. And the touch of cayenne on the Eggs Benedict in the restaurant. And my WSJ waiting at my door. And the staff greeting me by name, and saying hello.

The group we were traveling with constantly commented on how lovely the rooms were and how cozy this hotel was. The rooms are spacious, clean with nice extras. The lobby had a bowl of fresh apples, served coffee and water. I am pretty loyal to my chain hotels however, I would totally stay here again. It’s in the middle of a cute town where you can walk anywhere. I did notice things close early at 9 PM during the week. Showers & Beds were fabulous. Walls were a little thin, you could hear more than u like but that’s what war plugs are for!

I stayed here for work due to its central location. Breakfast was not included. No complimentary bottled water though there was water in the gym, which was underground. The gym was spacious; I would've preferred some natural light but the mirrors helped. There was only one bench but nobody else was there so it was fine. Equipment was well-maintained though there was a missing 20lb dumbbell, which was mildly annoying. I wish the music was a little quieter. This was the first time I saw a Power Plate in the gym, a sufficiently novel occurrence that I had to Google it to figure out how to use it properly. It'd be nice if there were instructions. The guest room was spacious. I liked the toiletries and definitely got the sense that housekeeping was meticulous. It all felt very classy... except they gave me the ADA room, which sort of ruined my experience. When I travel on business, I don't have particularly high expectations: I want a decent gym (ideally with a full set of weights and two benches to be on the safe side) and I want a clean, comfortable room where I can take a hot shower. The issue with the ADA room was the shower. There was no ground partition between the shower and the rest of the bathroom, which meant that water would leak out to the rest of the bathroom. I was also forced to hold the handheld shower head the whole time and couldn't leave it in the shower head holder angled down toward me, which meant that I would get cold whenever I had to temporarily place the shower head in the holder to grab some soap. That was inconvenient, to say the least. I was very tempted to rate this a three, but it is quite a nice hotel otherwise and I'm sure I would've enjoyed my stay more if I had a regular room.
