Pimalai Resort & Spa in Ko Lanta, Thailand

Pimalai Resort & Spa is located on the southern tip of Koh Lanta, far from the north’s commercial buzz. Here the buzz comes from cicadas inhabiting dense tropical vegetation, where contemporary Thai-style rooms and villas nestle into the hillside. Rich orange, pink and lime green Thai fabrics complement dark teakwood flooring and rattan curtains, and throughout the property, pagodas and infinity pools conjure tranquility. At the base of the hills, a wide swath of white-sand beach leads to the Andaman Sea.

Lounge on a daybed on the shores of an azure bay and work up an appetite for lunch, a chicken salad sandwich with an Asian twist of pakchoy, lime and sweet chili dressing. Board a boat bound for Koh Lanta National Marine Park, whose rocky cliffs are home to mammoth monitor lizards and curious macaques. Hike in undisturbed wilderness. Return to the resort for a sundowner perched high above Ba Kantiang Bay.

We just got back from a fabulous one week holiday in Pimalai Resort. I'll try to make this review as objective as possible in order to inform future guests about what to expect. Room: We stayed in pool villa 809, which had a magnificent view on the Andaman sea and Kantiang Bay. The villa itself is huge, with a sleeping room, central patio with private infinity pool and a lounge room with terrace. Do not hesitate to book this type of accomodation, you won't regret the extra cost... Do keep in mind that the villa's are situated uphill and you have to walk/take a (free) taxi back to the lobby/restaurants/beach. This might be a hassle for some guests. If so, you better go for a beach villa with direct access to Kantiang Bay. There is an abundant amount of free water in the fridge, which makes your stay so much easier (especially since temperatures can rise to 35 °in summertime). Breakfast: Served in the Seven Seas restaurant for the pool villa guests. Excellent quality and offer. Fantastic egg station and yummie waffles. Priceless view on Kantiang Bay (but try to avoid the tables in the sun, it can get too hot when there's no wind). Very small remark: It took a LONG time to get our coffee, but it didn't spoil the experience... Pool area: Beautiful infinity pool with excellent view on Kantian Bay. The staff keeps coming around with fresh (free) water and different kind of fruits. Restaurants: 1. Seven Seas: Western style with some Asian dishes. European prices, but very good quality (the salmon ceviche is to die for, as is the bisque...) 2. Rak Talay beach restaurant: Lots of seafood and thai dishes, also very good. You can dine right on the beach, feet in the sand. 3. Spice & Rice: Not visited Transfer from and to Krabi airport: Perfectly organized with AC minivan and speedboat (free drinks to cool off in summer heat) Medical facilities: Excellent nurse on site who assisted my girlfriend during a gall bladder crisis. (free meds for our journey back to Belgium) Conclusion: Without doubt the best hotel on Ko Lanta with excellent staff and delicious restaurants. A note to management: - The wine list needs a serious upgrade and the house wine tastes REALLY bad... :-) - It might be time to give the pool villa's an upgrade, tear and wear is starting to show (paint peeling off, rust spots in the pool, etc...) -

Its our last night at the Pimalai and no review can really describe how wonderful this place is. Amazing location, facilities and rooms. However the best thing about this place is the staff. It's all about company culture, someone should create a case study about the company culture here. The staff are amazing, hospitable, go beyond any reasonable expectation with a smile; you can see the excellent relationship between staff and management based on mentoring and encouragement and fun activities like an employee management volley ball game. We arrived early and they put us up in a temporary room which was very kind after a long trip, the new room they moved us into later has an amazing design. The excursion to Koh Rok was very nice. All of the restaurants are good and have excellent service. While everything was great the surf and turf night was amazing, special mention to the pastry chef that made the most amazing opera cake (better than I have ever had living in Paris. Special mention to the rak talay staff and happy hour staff as well, they knew what you needed before you asked for it. Same goes to the housekeeping staff that very nicely arranged for a second mattress topper as I have a preference for a softer bed. In conclusion this place is heaven and the employees are angels. If you ever need to hire someone on permanent bases to test the water temperature of the pools by swimming in them all year round, please contact me :).

Location of the resort and its grounds are amazing. Gym fully equipped. It's very expensive but worth it. On the downside there're a lot of multigenerational Chinese families and they can be very laud.

We just returned from a one week stay at Pimalai Resort and Spa and had a fantastic time. After landing at Krabi airport you are met by a representative of Pimalai who brings you outside where you take a 50 minute van ride then you have a 45 min boat ride to the resort. My husband, daughter and I had gone on a two week tour of Vietnam and Cambodia prior to arriving at Pimalai. We were so happy that we choose this resort to relax at before our return trip home. The whole experience was fantastic from the beautiful room that we had and super delicious food served at the restaurants. Breakfast is included and is so good with all the many choices of foods that are offered. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and you really feel pampered while you are there. We ate all of meals at the resorts restaurants as the food was always delicious, there really is no need to eat elsewhere. We did walk into the town which is only a short walk away but there wasn’t much there and it looked pretty run down. My husband and daughter went on two of the snorkel trips and had a great time. I unfortunately arrived at the resort with a stomach bug from our travels and after I had to cancel a snorkel trip the very nice activities director at the resort mentioned that the resort has a nurse and he asked me if I wanted to see him and he prescribed me an antibiotic that worked and had me feeling better in a few days. You can relax by the pool or the beach. The staff serve you ice water and cut up fruit while you are relaxing. The lush vegetation and flowers make for a beautiful setting. My daughter booked an appointment at the spa for one of the Pimalai messages. She said it was a great message and felt so relaxed and pampered when she left. My husband and I travel quite a lot and we both agreed that Pimalai was the nicest beach resort that we have ever been too. We hope if our travels ever take us back to Thailand that we will definitely return to this beautiful resort.
