About the Hotel

Pimalai Resort & Spa is located on the southern tip of Koh Lanta, far from the north’s commercial buzz. Here the buzz comes from cicadas inhabiting dense tropical vegetation, where contemporary Thai-style rooms and villas nestle into the hillside. Rich orange, pink and lime green Thai fabrics complement dark teakwood flooring and rattan curtains, and throughout the property, pagodas and infinity pools conjure tranquility. At the base of the hills, a wide swath of white-sand beach leads to the Andaman Sea.

Reviews for Pimalai Resort & Spa

A perfect balance of luxury, seclusion, and authentic Thai charm

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We had such an incredible stay at Pimalai. It’s one of those places that really gets everything right. The rooms are beautifully designed and incredibly spacious, giving you that immediate sense of calm the moment you arrive. What really makes the place stand out though, is the staff. Every single person we encountered was genuinely warm, attentive, and eager to help. It never felt forced, just truly lovely hospitality throughout. The beach isn’t private, but it feels like it is. It strikes that perfect balance of being peaceful and secluded, yet not isolated. At the far end of the beach there are a few relaxed local restaurants and even fire shows in the evening, which adds a bit of atmosphere without disturbing the tranquility. One of the biggest highlights for us was the food. We had some of the best meals of our entire Thailand trip here, and with four different bars and restaurants there is plenty of variety. Definitely make time for sundowners on the beach, especially during happy hour. Watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand was a real pinch me moment. We also did a boat trip to Koh Haa through the hotel, which was absolutely brilliant. The coral, marine life, and scenery were just stunning and easily one of the highlights of our trip. If you’re staying for a few days, I would highly recommend hiring a scooter and exploring more of the island. The old town and northern areas are well worth seeing, and then coming back to Pimalai to unwind feels even more special. All in all, Pimalai is that rare place that manages to feel both luxurious and authentically Thai. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Exceptional service, stunning setting, and perfect balance of luxury and local adventure

Our stay at Pimalai Resort on Koh Lanta was absolutely outstanding and truly one of the best resort experiences we have had anywhere in the world. From the moment we arrived in Thailand, everything was seamless. The resort team greeted us at the airport and handled every detail with incredible care. They organized smooth ground transportation, coordinated the beautiful boat transfer to the island, and even assisted us all the way to luggage drop and our departure gate on the way home. It made the entire journey completely stress free. What stood out most was the people. Every single staff member we encountered, whether sweeping pathways, working at reception, or serving us in the restaurants, genuinely seemed warm, pleasant, and happy. We were consistently greeted with real smiles and kindness, which created such a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere throughout our stay. The property itself is phenomenal. Everything is spotless, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully designed with incredible views and natural surroundings. The service is truly over the top in the best possible way. It feels attentive, polished, and authentic without ever being intrusive. One of the things we especially loved was that while the resort feels private and luxurious, you can also easily walk down the beach to a local village and enjoy a few fantastic local restaurants. It gave us the perfect balance of relaxation and experiencing Koh Lanta beyond the resort. The team also helped organize wonderful activities and excursions. We did an amazing snorkeling trip to Koh Rok that was a highlight of our vacation. We also arranged some outings independently that offered convenient pickup and drop off directly at the resort, which made everything very easy. Two experiences we highly recommend, especially for families, are the Following Giants Elephant Sanctuary, an ethical sanctuary where the elephants are clearly treated with care and respect, and Time for Lime cooking school and animal welfare centre. Both were fantastic experiences that we did with our two teen daughters and will always remember. We have travelled to many beautiful resorts around the world, and Pimalai stands out for its exceptional service, organization, warmth, and overall experience. We would return in a heartbeat. Highly recommend for both a romantic getaway or a memorable family vacation. 🌴

Peaceful retreat

This was the last stop on our island tour & it was our joint favourite (along with Rayavadee in Krabi) You arrived via a 45 minute private speedboat onto a floating pier which was quite fun! The deluxe rooms were lovely as were the terraces with a dappled sea view, everything you could need. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you had mobility issues as there were a lot of steep staircases, however they had a very efficient buggy service which went all around the resort & would even give you a lift into the village for 150 baht each way from the lobby. The upper infinity pool was simply gorgeous with views over the whole coast, happy hour at the Heritage bar located high above was 5.30pm to 6.30pm, just in time to enjoy the sunset which was stunning, we saw the naughty monkeys around this bar too! The breakfasts were really good & the service in all the restaurants was impeccable. There was even a buzzer on your beach lounger to call for service, drinks & lunch, complementary iced water & fruit sticks were also brought around frequently. The beach itself was gorgeous with pale, soft sands & warm, calm waters. I must mention the landscaping & beauty of the whole resort, it was like a tropical paradise, the gardeners never stopped working. The Pimalai app was really useful & they responded to the live chat very quickly, I used it to request buggy rides & to book restaurants. The only thing that I believe needed addressing was the lower infinity pool, the step into the pool was very deep & I watched many people struggling to get in & out. Also, the pool itself needs a refurb particularly in the jacuzzi & children’s section as there were uplifted tiles & a lot of unbecoming grime. I would also advise the hotel to do a new map of the resort with all the shortcut staircases on it as we were walking around in circles without a clue! Don’t let these small things put you off though as I would return in a heartbeat, it was heaven.

Paradise

We spent a few nights at Pimalai Resort at the end of our three-week trip around Thailand, and it was the perfect way to finish an already incredible holiday. From the moment we arrived, everything was outstanding. The setting is absolutely stunning, and the attention to detail throughout the resort really sets it apart. We stayed in a pool villa, which was luxurious with breathtaking views—waking up to that scenery each morning was unforgettable. The only minor downside was the occasional visit from some rather cheeky monkeys, but it honestly added to the unique experience! We made a point of dining at all of the restaurants during our stay, and every single one was excellent. A special highlight was the beach BBQ—delicious food in a beautiful, relaxed setting right by the sea. Evenings at the Heritage Bar were another standout moment. The sunsets there are truly unforgettable and made for the perfect way to unwind after a day in paradise. What really made our stay exceptional, though, was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was warm, personable, and always ready with a genuine smile. Their level of service made us feel incredibly welcome throughout our stay. Without a doubt, this is one of the best places we have ever stayed.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Fabulous hotel that fully deserves its awards and high ratings We stayed in a beach pavilion suite, which was perfect for our family, beautifully appointed with direct beach access and a pristine beach. Transfers from Krabi seemed effortless and well organised. Buggy service and room service was prompt. Food and drinks are executed to a high standard throughout, we particularly enjoyed the flexibility to order in-room from all menus. We liked that the Thai food was not unduly watered down for tourist palettes. Good fitness centre, and the tennis, pickleball sporting facilities were a highlight that we enjoyed everyday. We also enjoyed the infinity pool and free exercise classes. The sundowner happy hours were also a daily highlight and we loved the overall relaxed, elegant, uncrowded vibe of the hotel. Everything felt luxurious without being over the top. We appreciated the creativity and attention to detail in small things like the breakfast newspaper-menu, the pillow mist keepsake, the goodbye messages. It is clear that the hotel is run with considerable thought and care Thank you to the hotel management and staff. We would love to return

The Pimalai Resort and Spa, in Ko Lanta was a fabulous place to relax. Our One bedroom pool villa was exquisite. It overlooked the Adaman sea and was breathtaking. The accommodations are very spacious and can sleep two couples rather comfortably if anyone is looking to cut costs. The Thai staff was very friendly and helpful. The cuisine was up market and delicious! Great spa, beach, pools, water sports, land sports, and restaurants.
