Pimalai Resort & Spa in Ko Lanta, Thailand

Pimalai Resort & Spa is located on the southern tip of Koh Lanta, far from the north’s commercial buzz. Here the buzz comes from cicadas inhabiting dense tropical vegetation, where contemporary Thai-style rooms and villas nestle into the hillside. Rich orange, pink and lime green Thai fabrics complement dark teakwood flooring and rattan curtains, and throughout the property, pagodas and infinity pools conjure tranquility. At the base of the hills, a wide swath of white-sand beach leads to the Andaman Sea.

Lounge on a daybed on the shores of an azure bay and work up an appetite for lunch, a chicken salad sandwich with an Asian twist of pakchoy, lime and sweet chili dressing. Board a boat bound for Koh Lanta National Marine Park, whose rocky cliffs are home to mammoth monitor lizards and curious macaques. Hike in undisturbed wilderness. Return to the resort for a sundowner perched high above Ba Kantiang Bay.

Location of the resort and its grounds are amazing. Gym fully equipped. It's very expensive but worth it. On the downside there're a lot of multigenerational Chinese families and they can be very laud.

We just returned from a one week stay at Pimalai Resort and Spa and had a fantastic time. After landing at Krabi airport you are met by a representative of Pimalai who brings you outside where you take a 50 minute van ride then you have a 45 min boat ride to the resort. My husband, daughter and I had gone on a two week tour of Vietnam and Cambodia prior to arriving at Pimalai. We were so happy that we choose this resort to relax at before our return trip home. The whole experience was fantastic from the beautiful room that we had and super delicious food served at the restaurants. Breakfast is included and is so good with all the many choices of foods that are offered. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and you really feel pampered while you are there. We ate all of meals at the resorts restaurants as the food was always delicious, there really is no need to eat elsewhere. We did walk into the town which is only a short walk away but there wasn’t much there and it looked pretty run down. My husband and daughter went on two of the snorkel trips and had a great time. I unfortunately arrived at the resort with a stomach bug from our travels and after I had to cancel a snorkel trip the very nice activities director at the resort mentioned that the resort has a nurse and he asked me if I wanted to see him and he prescribed me an antibiotic that worked and had me feeling better in a few days. You can relax by the pool or the beach. The staff serve you ice water and cut up fruit while you are relaxing. The lush vegetation and flowers make for a beautiful setting. My daughter booked an appointment at the spa for one of the Pimalai messages. She said it was a great message and felt so relaxed and pampered when she left. My husband and I travel quite a lot and we both agreed that Pimalai was the nicest beach resort that we have ever been too. We hope if our travels ever take us back to Thailand that we will definitely return to this beautiful resort.

second visit to this five star gem. stay in the cheap seats as they are more than adequate. the bill was discounted due to our loyalty and wasn't that expensive considering we didn't leave the hotel for five days and at ÂŁ750 that's very good value. Miki the manager is rightly proud of his staff who are amazingly patient even to some of demanding people who always like to try and pick faults. I can truely say that the only thing that is a problem is the video film downloads which can stall half way thro a movie but as my wife pointed out you shouldn't be watching when you are staying in paradise! REMARKABLY GOOD. GREAT VALUE . LOVELY PEOPLE

We spent 4 nights at Pimalai at the end of a hectic trip around SE Asia. The private transfer and hotel speedboat really do make you feel that you are travelling to a private island. The hotel is arranged over quite a large area from the beach up into the hillside but carefully designed to blend into the extensive gardens so the place has a very “green” feeling. We stayed in a pool villa which was quite simply superb - very private with beautiful views out to sea as well as the surrounding countryside. It is a fair uphill walk from the beach to this part of the property but the hotel does run a buggy on demand. We ate so well in the various hotel restaurants that the walk did us good. There is no doubt that it was the staff who really made the difference to our stay. I have never come across such natural and genuine service before. Being surrounded by smiling happy staff is infectious!

Stayed here for four nights. You can fault the service and the boat trip to arrive gives you that VIP feeling. Check in was fast and friendly with a cold flannel and nice drink. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of good quality food. He resort seems split into two. Our room was near breakfast and what seemed the busier pool. This had quicker access to the beach which was great specially later in the afternoon. We preferred the pool in the upper part of the resort as it was generally a bit quieter and less chance of children. This was also where the fitness centre was which we tried to visit daily. Water was handed out regularly which was nice touch. It is not a surprise to anyone that the food and drinks are more pricey in the hotel. So if you turn left on the beach there is the same same but different restaurant and if you go right small set of food and drink places. We wanted a quality hotel to relax and catch up on sleep after the journey before moving in to be more adventurous and this was perfect. So all in all great place good service and on my favourite Thai island.
