Pimalai Resort & Spa in Ko Lanta, Thailand

Pimalai Resort & Spa is located on the southern tip of Koh Lanta, far from the north’s commercial buzz. Here the buzz comes from cicadas inhabiting dense tropical vegetation, where contemporary Thai-style rooms and villas nestle into the hillside. Rich orange, pink and lime green Thai fabrics complement dark teakwood flooring and rattan curtains, and throughout the property, pagodas and infinity pools conjure tranquility. At the base of the hills, a wide swath of white-sand beach leads to the Andaman Sea.

Lounge on a daybed on the shores of an azure bay and work up an appetite for lunch, a chicken salad sandwich with an Asian twist of pakchoy, lime and sweet chili dressing. Board a boat bound for Koh Lanta National Marine Park, whose rocky cliffs are home to mammoth monitor lizards and curious macaques. Hike in undisturbed wilderness. Return to the resort for a sundowner perched high above Ba Kantiang Bay.

We thought Reyevardee is the best resort in Krabi but Pimalai is one step further. We stayed for one week in the resort on a half board basis. We were picked up by the staff at Krabi airport and driven to the pier by car, where cool soft drinks were given and a group of us went on a speed boat trip for 50 minutes to the resort where the staff greeted and checked in our room, When we reached our room the luggage was already inside the room. Our room was facing the sea and could hear the sea waves all day and night. Everyday, they gave us fresh seasonal fruits and cookies, the room was cleaned twice a day. Restaurants We ate in all the restaurants and our favourite one was Seven Seas. Amazing staff Jean and trainee from Philippines were excellent. Jean went to the market everyday (at our request) until she could find the fruit she was looking for and gave it for us. The Chefs, the food and beverage manager and the general manager spoke to us on many occasions. We had buffet dinner at the resort, the sea food buffet is a must, at Raktelay. The food were tasty and in good portions. Like other reviewers, we agree the cleanliness and presentation were excellent. Sports centre They have basket ball courts, tennis courts and table tennis. Staff were very helpful and even played few games during their breaks with us and educating different strokes to my son. Especially Jude and his colleagues. Spa We had massages at the resort and out side but in the resort the massage was amazing. Pin was Professional and she knew the exact locations of my muscle pain as soon as she finished the massage. Swimming pools There are two pools in the Resort, the infinity pool and the normal pool. Both pools have incredible Jacuzzis and there own artefact (waterfall artefacts), the infinity pool had a wonderful view of the sunset, where my son and I took pictures. The one thing that set them apart from the rest was the fact you could ask for something (any request) a single time and they would do it for you immediately. We cannot wait to return!

I stayed at Pimalai 3 nights from 12/11 to 15/11 and it was really amazing. Whilst I had only taken the standard room, it is spacious and very modern with both a shower and a bathtub as well as a quiet AC. My room was in an elegant 2-storey building within a luxurious garden. You really do not feel being in a large hotel whereas you are. Everything has been carefully thought through in every detail in this hotel: staff is nice and highly efficient, there are 3 restaurants providing amazing views on the bay and with great food. The beach is beautiful almost exclusive to the hotel. The beach service is great with staff regularly bringing you towels and water. Since the hotel stretches on a hill there is a shuttle service to take you from the beach to other locations of the hotel. The 2 swimming pools are stunning with infinite edge style overlooking the bay. When the night comes, everything is enlightened with great taste. I really look forward to come back again in this exceptional hotel.

Our accommodations are using usually a side note to the destination but although we enjoyed our time on the beautiful Koh Lanta, the experience we had at Pimalai was just as great. The staff are friendly and meticulously attentive. They make you feel welcome and “special”. There is a hint of eco-friendliness to the resort as well, along with that it sits in the jungle hillside by the beach. You feel like you are part of the landscape.

The experience at Pimalai was amazing, it's not just a stay, it's a whole experience. We were amazed by the kindness of the staff, the "room" desgin, the jungle where the hotel is, the infinity swimming pools with the see view. We loved all the complientary activities and the breakfast buffet. Everything was perfect.
