Kupu Kupu Phangan in Koh Phangan, Thailand

Borrowing its name from the phrase meaning "sand bar", the island of Ko Pha Ngan was once the favored retreat of Thai royalty. The smaller sister island to Koh Samui, Ko Pha Ngan is the ideal location for the isolated, romantic retreat of Kupu Kupu Phangan, Thailand's premier all-villa sanctuary on the sea. Opening December 1, 2012, Kupu Kupu Phangan takes the concept of an island holiday to new levels of comfort, style, and beauty. The hotel's 20 villas are uniquely designed to unite traditional Thai artistry with modern amenities and conveniences, culminating in an unforgettable vacation experience. Kupu Kupu Phangan's three categories of living accommodations includes: the charming wooden Seaview Pool Villa, the spacious Beachfront Pool Villa, and the tropically inspired Deluxe Beachfront Pool Villa. Each room is visually stunning with preferred amenities that help create a relaxed atmosphere, including a spa style bathroom, personal safe, satellite TV, and mini bar.

Despite its secluded, dreamy location, Kupu Kupu Phangan incorporates many exciting features of a five-star resort, like an on-site restaurant and spa. La Plague Restaurant serves up delicious regional cuisine, with bold flavors supplemented by fresh local seafood and ingredients indigenous to the land. The comfortable spa space is comprised of two double treatment rooms facing the hotel's infinity pool, perfect for a relaxing couple's massage, or any of the other therapies available on the spa's comprehensive menu of treatments. Guests may spend a day getting lost on the extensive stretches of beach surrounding the hotel, or take to the water for a fun-filled day at sea. No matter what your pleasure, Kupu Kupu Phangan has you covered. Come discover all the colorful nuances of a space aptly named for nature's most beautiful, exotic creature--the butterfly-- at Kupu Kupu Phangan.

Kupu Kupu Phangan is a beautiful resort with amazing staff. We stayed in a sea view pool villa, which was beautiful, comfy bed, great bathroom, complimentary gin/vodka/whiskey, welcome basket on arrival including items for our 2 year old. Daily cleaning including pool and nightly turn down service including lolly and Thai bed time story which our 5 year old really looked forward to! The restaurant was a beautiful setting looking out to the ocean, food was so good and the staff so kind and helpful, especially with the kids which helped us feel more comfortable and relaxed. Like others have said it is quite expensive, but probably about right for a luxury resort. Food and drink is cheaper in town, so it depends what you are after. We found a mix of both worked well. It is a 100B per person into Thong Sala which is standard, the hotel doesn’t really have any other shops and one or two other restaurants around only which were empty and we didn’t feel comfortable eating in. The facilities here are really good, the pool in beautiful as our the hotel grounds. We tried the spa which was great. The staff here are really great, always smiling and welcoming. Shout out to Kaew who really looked after us and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. Highly recommended

Kupu Kupu is ideally located for the beautiful phangnan sunsets (although I recommend the top rock bar too) We were in room 4 - a sea view suite this is the cheaper room and whilst I am sure the pool villas are nicer the incessant presence of flies and mosquitos in the room was annoying (despite door being closed and net over). Flies were also always in the dinning area. Whilst we appreciate it’s a tropical country and you can’t stop bugs - we dod not experience the same level anywhere else in Thailand. Maybe supply a fly swatter this would resolve the issue somewhat. The pool and grounds are lovely although I do think the suites were an afterthought and as such I wouldn’t recommend dinning on the platform unless you want to share dinner with those in the suites. The breakfast was poor definitely not 5 star - you really need to up the coffee game. Good coffee is cheap and trust me makes the world of difference. But on a high note the staff at this resort are excellent. The front desk staff were very good the bar staff were really lovely and looked after us well. I would recommend but go for the pool villa and bring your own swatter and gallons of bug spray

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely resort. Great location close to the main city of Koh Phangan. We got a free upgrade in a Villa with private pool just in front of the beach, amazing! The service was great & the staff very friendly. The spa is a bit expensive but with a great quality and l'Occitane product. Will be back for sure.

This is the end of a 3 week trip and after being on the go for 2 solid weeks we needed a rest. This is the place for it. From the moment we arrived I having nothing but positive things to say. All the staff are amazing. So pleasant and happy and happy to do anything to ensure our stay is perfect. The restaurant is terrific, a little pricey but to be expected in a resort. We took advantage of the spa and wow! The best I’ve had. And we’ve had a few. The breakfast is great, a terrific range and covers most western and local cuisine. A short taxi ride into town, and if you’re lucky the resort will run you in if nothing else on the go. We have a sea view pool villa which is close to everything, but admittedly we’ve used the pool constantly. It is kept clean. All up, a terrific place to come for a rest and to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Very highly recommended.
