Kupu Kupu Phangan in Koh Phangan, Thailand

Borrowing its name from the phrase meaning "sand bar", the island of Ko Pha Ngan was once the favored retreat of Thai royalty. The smaller sister island to Koh Samui, Ko Pha Ngan is the ideal location for the isolated, romantic retreat of Kupu Kupu Phangan, Thailand's premier all-villa sanctuary on the sea. Opening December 1, 2012, Kupu Kupu Phangan takes the concept of an island holiday to new levels of comfort, style, and beauty. The hotel's 20 villas are uniquely designed to unite traditional Thai artistry with modern amenities and conveniences, culminating in an unforgettable vacation experience. Kupu Kupu Phangan's three categories of living accommodations includes: the charming wooden Seaview Pool Villa, the spacious Beachfront Pool Villa, and the tropically inspired Deluxe Beachfront Pool Villa. Each room is visually stunning with preferred amenities that help create a relaxed atmosphere, including a spa style bathroom, personal safe, satellite TV, and mini bar.

Despite its secluded, dreamy location, Kupu Kupu Phangan incorporates many exciting features of a five-star resort, like an on-site restaurant and spa. La Plague Restaurant serves up delicious regional cuisine, with bold flavors supplemented by fresh local seafood and ingredients indigenous to the land. The comfortable spa space is comprised of two double treatment rooms facing the hotel's infinity pool, perfect for a relaxing couple's massage, or any of the other therapies available on the spa's comprehensive menu of treatments. Guests may spend a day getting lost on the extensive stretches of beach surrounding the hotel, or take to the water for a fun-filled day at sea. No matter what your pleasure, Kupu Kupu Phangan has you covered. Come discover all the colorful nuances of a space aptly named for nature's most beautiful, exotic creature--the butterfly-- at Kupu Kupu Phangan.

We have stayed at kupukupu hotel for 2 night, at the private pool vila. The vila is spacious, the private pool is great, the bath in the shower room is extremely comfortable! However, the towels are very small and felt cheap, the safe in the room was really old safe thar every time we opened it some part of the safe had always got out of it. The hotel beach is so beautiful, but surprisingly there are NOT even one bed sun on the beach!! The breakfast was ok, we expected more from a 5 star hotel.. The minibar and restaurant price are extremely high then other hotles we have been in the island. Overall the hotel is so beautiful, but improvements needs to be done.

First impressions on arrival were very good. Check-in went smoothly and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a beach front deluxe suite with plunge pool. All I can say is wow and would definitely recommend for Honey-mooners or special occasions. There is a double fronted glass window with un-interrupted views out to sea. There are electrically operated window blinds (nice touch) and it feels like you are at the cinema. It looks as though there is not a bad room at the resort from what we could see with the sea-view and beach front rooms all seemingly well positioned and proportioned. The main inifinity pool is quite a central feature with plenty of sun-beds and canopies available. Breakfast is very pleasant with a wide choice of good quality food to cater for all tastes. We also used room service and Thai buffet night at the restaurant. Once again we could not fault the food or service, however, I would agree with many other reviewers in that food is expensive compared to other similar hotels. We did the hotel boat trip for snorkelling which is well worth doing (lots of fish/corals). The hotel is slightly remote however there are a few restaurants in thong sala plus the food market. In conclusion we had a very pleasant stay in a room which frankly is difficult to upstage. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only BUT is that it is about 20% more expensive than santhiya & sundance (ko samui) and in truth I question whether it's worth the extra cost but all is forgiven if you are in a beachfront deluxe suite!

Resort location is amazing, very clean as well as the villas with small private pool. Service is not at the level I would expect even if the personnel is always very kind. Limited the breakfast offer expecially for guests used to continental breakfast. There is a huge price difference between hotel restaurant (good quality by the way) and the offers outside the resort; if you would like to increase the number of guests taking their meals in the resort, this huge gap must be reduced. The beach in front of the resort is cleaned every morning but during the day the sea brings back lot of garbage. Much worse, if you just walk away 100 mt or so (just around the stones on the right) there is garbage everywhere (plastic and glass bottles, polystyrene boxes, plastic cutlery). This is clearly not due to the resort but it's not a picture you would like to see.

Amazing place to stay, the accommodation is fantastic, romantic setting. Room service was good, and it's nice to lay by the pool on the beach, and have food and drinks delivered to you. The breakfasts were served out on the veranah so you can look out to sea. Good food.
