Reviews for Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort

Beautiful location and staff, really loved it here!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Beautiful, beautiful beautiful hotel, we love the location and the facilities and the beautiful pool that we lay in every single day. The Cabanas on the beach and by the pool are stunning and the staff cannot do enough to help you The food at the hotel breakfast is beautiful as is guilty restaurant but it is very expensive so just choose carefully ! the staff are friendly and helpful and we had some amazing food recommendations from the food and beverage manager, Mark. I would return to this location again and I don’t normally go to the same place on holiday twice so that says something !

Birthday trip

We have been to Ko Samui before and stayed at another hotel for 4 days as part of a long tour of Thailand, we decided to return to see more of the island this year. One of our favourite hotels is the Anantara Riverside in Bangkok, so this is the reason for choosing the Anantara Bophut. The hotel grounds from the entrance are stunning, the gardens are beautiful as is the lobby and library.. The rooms are not particularly large but adequate, we asked to change rooms after the first night because we had no balcony or light and my husband likes to read at night, this was accommodated without concern. The staff are all AMAZING the Fand B Magaerc Mark was fantastic sorting out a small hiccup, Sandy, Guest relations Manager was the best ever and Johnny on the beach, serving drinks was fabulous. Would return again in a heartbeat

Lovely hotel close to Fisherman’s village

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We stopped here for 10 day, the first week was perfect, a relaxed atmosphere, site kept immaculately. Unfortunately for the latter part of the holiday a huge group turned up which would have been fine if they hadn’t shouted to each other across the pool constantly, they were exceptionally rude to the staff making demands on them, leaving their empty glasses all around the pool rather than taking them to the tables where they were sitting. The staff handled it all fantastically and the group were spoken to on numerous occasions by the management. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly, the management team were often seen around the hotel interacting with the guests and staff. The hotel is beautiful, although not a huge amount of storage space in the bedrooms. Breakfast catered for all tastes and there were always plenty of tables available. The restaurants in the evening were very quiet as The fisherman’s village is very close by so people tended to go and eat there. I would recommend staying here, the entrance to the hotel is beautiful.

A stay of 2 halves

I think the fairest review I can give here is 3 stars. We had a week there and the first 3 days I’d of given it a 1 or 2 star review. However after we provided feedback to Anantara via en email survey the food/drink manager was swift to respond to improve our experience. Our initial feedback was: 1. The service around the pool is terribly slow. We ask the staff to chase where our orders were but given zero communication to update us. It took +40 minutes to bring me a bottle of beer. 2. The pool area is messy and not kept clean. Old glasses/plates left everywhere. Birds eating food off tables. No attention to details. 3. Took around an hour for food to arrive, then another hour for bill. Tried to order at another time - later when less busy, still took an hour for bowl of fries. When I ask staff I can’t tell if it’s just slow or forgotten entirely. Having just come from Anantara lawarna service much better and resort kept tidy around pool with staff helping with towels. Does not feel like a 5 star hotel. I have also now decided I will not be ordering food on site as slow and when food arrived not good. 4. Not enough towels provided the pool. The shelf where they keep towels is empty. 5. Other guests playing their music loudly on portable speakers - staff do nothing. 6. No one replacing the products in the room eg shampoo. We actually got so annoyed by the above that I got a taxi to another hotel to see if it was worth booking and moving. After being given the above feedback the manager did come and find us straight away. To be fair to him I think he really tried to change our experience. We could tell that the pool was kept tidier for example. We started going to the beach and there was 1 staff member called Johnny who provided much closer to 5 star service by coming over to offer drinks service, tidying our towels during the day and bringing us cold facial towels. The drinks and food service speed also improved so it was normal! So basically the 2nd half was much improved. However it was interesting to see as this great service we were being given by Johnny didn’t actually seem to be being provided to everyone. I came to this conclusion by observing myself but also talking to other guests. Also, if Johnny had to go work somewhere else there was absolutely no service on the beach. So I felt that potentially the manager had spoken to Johnny to ensure we were spoilt however it’s not actually the baseline standard of the hotel. My overall view of this hotel is that it’s in a really good location. The grounds are beautiful! However, Anantara don’t provide 5 star service to back up the rating/price tag, particularly around the beach/pool area. My feeling is there’s not enough staff to provide the standard as staff always we’re working super hard but just can’t keep up with the quantity of residents. The other hotel I consider moving to was at least half the size and had at least double the staff. We personally wouldn’t rush to book with Anantara against unfortunately.

Relaxing idyll

2 weeks of bliss, we loved this hotel. Location is fantastic as it's set in beautiful gardens, it's peaceful yet within 5 minutes you're in Fishermans Village with all the bars, restaurants and shops. Our room was comfortable, luxurious and enormous with 2 balconies (garden view suite), remember to take mosquito spray if you're lounging on your balcony on an evening). Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast, great egg station and fruit smoothies. Slight downside is the gritty sand so would knock off half a star but taxis are cheap to go visit white sandy bays for a change of scenery. We never had a problem getting a sun lounger, you have to get up early for a cabana, but your stuff did get moved if you tried to reserve a bed and not turn up for hours. I'd recommend the pool bar happy hour to watch the sunset and Thin Thai restaurant (actually this was the best meal I had on holiday).
