Nice hotel but some niggles

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Stayed for 9 nights in two garden view suites as family with teenagers. We had a lovely time overall. The good - great location, amazing communal grounds, great breakfast and really lovely staff. The not so good - lots of towel reserving at pool and beach pre 7am despite management signs. Hotel needs to deal with this - not ok in a 5* hotel. Pool area also felt a little crowded with glasses around it etc mid afternoon. Housekeeping came very late in the day (around 4pm) for the majority of our stay. Towels also not left a couple of times - a little inconvenient. Problem with shower rose on check in but dealt with quickly. On check out there was a spurious charge for accommodation of 7.5k. On balance we would not return. Hotel was quite a contrast to the Anantara in Chiang Mai which was exceptional.

Turn the music DOWN!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Good hotel. Not excellent but not average either. Rooms a little dated. Hardly any storage even in a Junior Suite. Lovely staff. Downside is the LOUD music around the pool. Average adult age here is 50. Very young children as schools back after Easter holidays. Seens the bar staff play the music for themselves rather than the guests. Great choice of music, just too loud. Turn it down a bit then it will be a relaxing hotel rather than a disco in Ibiza.

Has put me of the Anantara brand

Big disappointment overall. The good: Nice entrance to the hotel and central garden area. Rooms are clean. I was told the spa was good. The bad: The entire hotel is too small for the amount of guests and the facilities are substandard. Good luck trying to get a seat either round the pool or by the bar to eat after 11am. Hotel allows guests to reserve the tiny amount of seating which ruins the whole thing. Cant sit down to eat. Limited amount of beds on the beach. Everyone packed in like sardines. No management presence anywhere. Breakfast is cheap food and some of it is cooked so badly its disgusting (bacon literally burnt to a crisp) so most options arent used by guests. The breakfast area like everything else is too small and cramped. Not enough seats indoors and outside is uncomfortablely hot. The kids club is a cramped room which feels more like a kindergarten for under 6s. Extra activities are 500 baht per child per activity for slime making or paper model making etc. Tiny gym. No proper bar area just a tiny beach bar and swim up bar. Not suitable for pre dinner drinks etc. Instead they have an large expensive restaurant taking up a lot of the pool area that noone uses and a total waste of space. Feels like the hotel is trying to squeeze you for as much money as possible which leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Plants aside, it doesn't feel like an Anantara at all. More like a 3 star hotel but at 5 star prices. That said it didn't ruin our stay because the nearby fishing village is excellent with some superb bars and restaurants.

Disappointing overall with the Anantara

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Travelling as a family of 4 with 2 children aged 7 and 10. We upgraded to the Junior Garden view which I’m pleased we did as the room gives you more room and that’s what we needed to with 2 children. The room was lovely with views overlooking the gardens. The main issue during our stay was how busy it was. We came during Easter holiday so undoubtably knew it would be busy. But as a similar review states, the hotel cannot cope with the amount of people. It is a very small hotel. Breakfast only has about 12 tables inside and the rest are under a canopy outside where it was very hot. There are only about 40 sun beds around the pool and a number of cabanas, forcing people to sit on one of the 5 table and chairs by the pool bar where people want to eat. There simply is not enough seating and sun beds for the amount of guests. It became very frustrating. I also missed a nice hotel bar to have a pre dinner drink or somewhere nice to sit after dinner. The only bar the hotel has is the pool bar. Just didn’t feel quite the luxury 5 star hotel we know the Anantara has been in other places. There is a beautiful restaurant area they call ‘Guilty’ which overlooks the gardens one side and the beach the other raised over the pool. We only ever saw 1 or 2 groups of people in here. Such a waste of space when the hotel is so small as it is. If they opened this up for drinks in the evening or had a lovely evening bar it would be much better utilised. The kids club is 1 very small room for all ages. Free to go in and expensive to do any extra activities like tie dying a T-shirt for 500 baht. Generally the kids club was not suitable for children over the age of 6 in my opinion. We loved the location in the Fisherman’s village. Perfect 2 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Really lovely Italian, Mexican, Thai and BBQ restaurants we ate in. Beach is lovely. Unfortunately would look at other hotels if we returned to this lovely island.
