About the Hotel

Located south of Bangkok in the "Land of Smiles," the picturesque island of Koh Samui is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches, temperate rainforests, and stunning shorelines. With the addition of Banyan Tree Samui, Koh Samui is now home to the "Best New Beach Resort Hotel" as named by the elite Condé Nast Traveller Hot List 2011. The resort's breathtaking exterior rises above the shimmering Gulf of Thailand amidst cascading treetop terraces on an isolated hill cove. Banyan Tree Samui boasts an all villa-resort; each generously proportioned living space impressively combines aspects of traditional Thai-style architecture with modern planning and design, such as the steep, raised rooftops, striking floor-to-ceiling windows, and its own elevated, private pool. The beautiful, expansive grounds are surrounded by the lush, aromatic foliage of the region, making it the picture perfect backdrop for every celebration of life: birthdays, weddings, romantic getaways, and everything in between.

Spa experience

Charlene was incredible, I had the 90 minute Thai massage and she understood what I needed perfectly. I would highly recommend booking in a treatment!

A beautiful lush paradise

We spent 10 days at Banyan Tree Samui in July. The property itself is beautiful! The villa was spacious with a luxurious vibe and a private pool. We especially loved the traditional Thai look of the furniture and architecture. We felt the villa was very private. Due to the lush landscape you could not see or hear any of the neighboring villas. In some corners you can see that the resort generally is a little older (some fences around our villa would need a little update). When walking around the resort it never felt crowded. At the private beach there were always enough day beds available and also the restaurants never felt crowded. Our villa host Dada was easy to contact and helped us with any questions we had. Generally all of the staff were super friendly and caring! We booked half board and were able to choose between dinner at the beach restaurant or the Michelin star restaurant “Saffron” each night which was a great option. Both restaurant offered amazing food and there were all specials already included (e.g. barbecue night, fire show, seafood night). As we travelled with a young child we were offered a child’s menue during each meal which was great. The resort offers a spacious kids pool, a regular pool, spa, kids club, gym, free snorkeling, stand up paddle and paddle boat equipment, etc. Also plenty of free activities like a snorkel tour and nature walks as well as some activities that cost extra (e.g. cooking class). Each day there was something to do. What stood out for us was the cleanliness of the villa and all public spaces, the beautiful architecture and landscape as well as the friendliness of the staff. Definitely a place to come back to.

Excellent Massage Experience

We had exceptional experience and massage. It was one of the best we’ve ever experienced. The Rainforest hydrotherapy experience also very impressive and unique. Staff is warm and very attentive. I will gladly return to the Banyan Tree spa!

Beautiful place, not ideal for young children

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This resort is beautiful and truly unique the villas especially those high on the hill have the most amazing view and you can enjoy it from your own private pool day and night. The staff are beautiful and so attentive, you get around by chauffeured buggies that are available to pick you up as needed. The on-site restaurants are a mixed bag. Breakfast was nice but not amazing. The flagship saffron is the “fine dining” option for dinner and is lovely. The beach cafe/grill all day/night option is unfortunately not great and overpriced. There are however many other excellent restaurants around the island that can be reached by taxi. Phensiri, which is quite close, was fabulous. Noteworthy for those with young children the rooms are not really suited to them and it’s not that relaxing, obviously we knew the private pool was there but we didn’t realize all the doors open directly into the pool and none can be child locked. This includes the front door, all of which could be easily unlocked and opened by my 3 year old, so I had to literally sleep with one eye open to make sure no one went outside unattended. They do present you with a waiver upon arrival saying the villas aren’t recommended for children under 8 I don’t remember reading that before booking but it’s useful to know. Also childcare options for under 4 are limited, there is a babysitter for 600-800thb/hour minimum 3-4 hrs but availability is limited. Would absolutely go again, but once the kids are older :)
