A beautiful property, very peaceful and relaxing. Lovely beach. Great facilities and the breakfast is excellent. We had a waterfront property, great size and a beautiful view. Would choose a place up the hill next time. A good mix of families with young kids, young and old couples. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food & drink was a bit pricey, but then again all the hotels we visited were about the same - amazing local food within 5 min drive of the hotel. This hotel is a bit secluded so you have to drive or taxi everywhere - you can rent scooters for 200 Baht a day just down the road, by 711.

Of course, You know the upfront cost when you book it. What you don't realise is that they will charge excessively for dinner, drinks, yoga and spa treatments. The prices for dinner are London equivalent. There's nothing within walking distance so they have a captive audience. The Thai food is nice and the service like very and friendly but when we started eats no out at nice restaurants on the island we realised they were ripping us off. The expensive Italian buffet evening is awful - soggy pasta and pizza. Only the fresh grilled fish is worth eating. The villas are lovely but the bathrooms are dark and have no air conditioning. As a result, every time you go in there you get bitten. My kind do and I were eaten alive. They change 500 baht per person ( not per delivery) for room service. Breakfast for five would incur a GBP 55 delivery charge.

We have just spend four nights at Belmont Napasai in an oceanfront villa. For within this price bracket I don't think you will find much better value for money in Koh Samui. The views from our villa and much of the hotel are glorious - palm trees and the clear gulf of Thailand. From the decking area beside our villa we could see nothing but sea and boats. Rooms are very traditional and you can tell they are old but they have been beautifully maintained. The gym is small but again well maintained and we enjoyed excellent massages in the spa. I have seen some previous negative reviews about the food which I strongly disagree with - breakfast was excellent and we ate lunch daily by the ocean and had dinner in both the Thai and beachside restaurants and enjoyed every thing we ate. This is a smallish resort, out of the way of the main tourist areas of Bophut and Chaweng but we headed out a couple of days and taxis were cheap and plentiful. Final comment has to be about the staff. Every single person we met during our stay was fantastic - genuinely keen to chat and we got to know many of the staff quite well. I am writing this at the airport and genuinely feel that I have left a little of my heart at Napasai. My huge thanks to all of the staff. Ben and Trish

The Belmond in Koh Samui is our second Belmond and is equally impressive. The hotel staff was unbelievably helpful and friendly. We rented a 2 bedroom villa and found the hotel comfortable and luxurious. We used the spa, pool, and beach. All 3 were top notch. The service was excellent and the staff was attentive picking us up in golf carts at our villa door. If you do rent a villa, please note there are a lot of stairs to the villas so if you have difficulty with stairs you need to address with the hotel. Our room came with a private pool and beach area. The views off the deck were astonishing. It was an excellent trip and we couldn't have been more happy with the hotel.

There are so many good and not so good things with this property, its a bit difficult to describe the place. Perhaps listing them down would be the best way. Pros - Great location. A little off the beaten path if you need the solitude. - The beach is pretty much all to the hotel guests and there are always loungers available - The restaurants and bars service the beach area so you're never short of a drink. - The hotel staff is excellent and take the effort to know your name and your preferences. Will give them the highest mark for this aspect - The infinity pool is fantastic and you almost don't feel like getting out. - Check in and check out was a breeze - Great breakfast options with something for almost everyone. Cons - So this may or may not mean much to varied travellers but the Thai restaurant was atrocious. If this is your introduction to Thai food, perhaps ignorance is the best outcome. It's difficult to comprehend the Thai restaurant in a Thai hotel being so underpar. Ironically, the western options were all good though - Food service takes forever; the shortest I remember is 40 minutes and the longest about 1.5 hours. - This might sound nitpicky but the wooden floors in the rooms and the spa, while adding character to the decor, are an absolute nuisance because of the creaking. I can't describe how each night and every morning I would wake up with the noise. Imagine the same at the spa... just not right. All up, this is a good property, well maintained (minus the floorboards) with great staff who almost carry the place. A little more effort with the F&B would make this one of the best choices in Samui
