Definitely recommend it for the most convenient and relaxing stay

Loved everything about this hotel! It’s right in front of the beach and they provide free kayaks and surfboards. On some days, there is a liver performance which is lovely. The room we stayed in was very spacious and the decor is spot on. Location is perfect with many restaurants and massage places around it also fisherman’s village is right next to it so it’s very convenient especially on the days the night market is open. I wouldn’t say the breakfast buffet is the best but the great service makes up for it.

The best located hotel in Samui? Probably

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Let me start with the cons: for those who like their hotels ultra-modern and perfect in every way this is not the place for you. The Hansar is looking a little bit tired given it was opened 16 years ago (I think) and is starting to show it's age. The rooms are a bit dark, the beds are too soft, the air conditioning cools but does not dehumidify (they provide free-standing dehumidifiers in the rooms instead), you need a degree in Electrical Engineering to work out how all the switches in the rooms connect to each other and to the things they operate, and the buffet breakfast doesn't quite match-up to other 5* offerings these days. If you are the kind of traveler who needs perfect surroundings - there are many newer 5* hotels available on the island that can deliver. However, here are the pros: the location is absolutely perfect - 2 mins walk into Fisherman's Village with its endless collection of bars/restaurants/shops and 15 mins from the airport by taxi/transfer - total convenience (which is the most important thing to me as a traveler), you will have the choice between relaxing on the hotel's long stretch of Bophut beach, or in possibly the best and simplest hotel swimming pool ever created (with amazing sea views over said beach and beyond), the hotel beach bar provides all day refreshing drinks and food along with regular live music, the staff couldn't be more helpful, they have an in-house tour organiser ('A') for all those lovely boat trips, and the overall environment is simply delightful. The Hansar very much benefits from first-mover advantage in this location and has an amazing plot and open-plan design and all rooms seem to have a sea view. For our money, the Hansar is the best compromise between all of the above points and we will definitely be back as soon as possible.

Worlds apart from our stay 10 years previously

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We were really looking forward to staying at the Hansar after having stayed there 10 years previously and had an amazing time! We were so disappointed. On the positive side, the location is great, right at the end of Fishermans Village and numerous bars and eateries. The welcome at reception was amazing and housekeeping does a fantastic job keeping the rooms immaculately clean. The hotel is showing many signs of wear and tear and is desperately in need to some TLC if its to continue it’s claim to be 5 star. The toilet flush in our room kept sticking, the bathroom floor had several cracks and the air conditioning rattled relentlessly. The beds around the pool are covered in stains and the deck varnish peeling; the whole place needs a fresh lick of paint! Breakfast was OK but not the amazing spread we had remembered, the refreshing fruit and drinks at the pool during the day also seem to be a thing of the past having been replaced by regular clouds of cannabis smoke. How times change! We did complain but was told the offenders are a “big party” and to be fair they were and they never stopped ordering food and drinks all day, so I guess this buys their way around the so called rules. Give the restaurant a miss for evening meal, we were the only diners. When the “fish and chips” arrived it was clear why. Tiny portions of clearly frozen fish and chips, hardly 5 star. On the bright side the pool bar is great and the staff there work very hard to keep guests happy. On checking out we had a taxi waiting, we were asked if we had used the minibar which consisted of a couple of beers, cokes and water (£5 total at the maximum). We hadn’t used anything, but they insisted we wait, and wait while they “get someone to check”. Really !? So what was the point in asking me!? For the pennies it costs when the one in a hundred guests lie about this, is it really worth irritating the other 99?! The receptionist just kept saying “we don’t think you lie”. Now I realise some of this is lost in translation, but what a bizarre practice someone thought up! On this trip we have stayed in some amazing properties Singapore, KL, Penang and BKK with some extremely well stocked minibars and never has more than a quick “anything from the minibar” . It urked, can you tell!? I think the Hansar is now pushing it when it claims to be 5 star, it really isn’t. What a shame!

Will definitely be back !!!

It’s rare to find a hotel that is exactly what it looks like in all the photos & brochures! My wife & I had a truly wonderful stay at the Hansar. The staff are very lovely & helpful, great breakfast choices with the restaurant overlooking the sea. Food & drink were great & very reasonably priced, the spa had lots of package options again reasonably priced. Lovely pool & brilliant location 15 mins from the airport and adjacent to Fisherman’s Village with night market / restaurants with variety of bars and shops. Highly recommend. Only one very slight criticism & I am being very picky was the low lighting level in the room, particularly the bathroom mirror where I found it difficult to shave & for my wife to apply make up, possibly invest in a shaving light! 😂🙏
