Melati Beach Resort & Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand

With nearly 80 suites and villas fashioned after a Thai village - and over half of them boasting private plunge pools - the stunning Melati Beach Resort & Spa provides an exceptional retreat. Overlooking the cerulean waters of Thailand's Thongson Bay, and with a blanket of platinum sand tracing its coastal contours, this secluded sanctuary allows guests to be swathed in luxury from behind the doors of their luxe suites. Occasional bursts of color enliven calming neutral tones, and garden swings and outdoor tubs provide delightfully unexpected touches. The seemingly airbrushed quality of unobstructed bay views works to blur the line between reality and an Utopian paradise.

The lofty lobby conceals a terraced swimming pool and the beach beyond, where guests congregate beneath cloudless skies. There are two excellent restaurants, with one perfecting traditional Thai dishes and Asian specialties as the other prepares global cuisine from within an exhibition kitchen. You may also mix and mingle at one of two pool bars, or check out the lobby lounge to explore its wine cellar. If you are looking for total relaxation, indulge in a soothing spa treatment in one of the private spa villas. An herbal steam or body wrap will certainly leave you feeling incredibly supple and rejuvenated. The resort also has a library and reading area, but if you do not fancy yourself the bookish type - at least while on vacation - then engage in the vibrant club scene just minutes away. At Melati Beach Resort & Spa you can truly have it all - an incredibly relaxing experience and an invigorating turn on the dance floor.

Lovely room, clean, well laid out resort. Has great pools, good breakfasts and lovely shallow beach. Staff are friendly, especially Joan at the front desk. Didn't use the spa, a bit too pricey, and having the spa by the pool for soothing massages is not a great idea, as all the kids are squealing, jumping and screaming (as the should!) in and around the pool, so maybe get a massage inside the resort. Good location, slightly isolated beach with 1 beach massage place either side giving 400 baht massages, which is high compared to Chaweng where they are 250 or 300 for the hour. The whole place is fab, but it will cost you a small fortune if you eat, drink and get transfers from them. Plus every item you see on the price list and menu is not what you pay. They add 17% service charge and tax to every item. Some of Thailand does this, some don't, and you just pay what's on the menu - but you need to check. 2 for 1 happy hour on the cocktails by the pool bar is a treat. 280 / 300 baht for 2 cocktails on the deal, plus charges. We got our own private taxi from airport, agreed price 400baht, about 10 mins ride. The hotel quoted 500 plus charges. They offer a scheduled shuttle which is handy to central chaweng beach, again 100 each way, so for a couple 400 plus charges. Really should be a guest inclusive service. We got a transfer to Bang Rak pier for ferries to other islands which was again 150 baht each one way. We were in a room on the outer road of the resort, and there was construction work next door on another site in the day, but I don't think you'd hear it inside the resort. But in the room we could hear it so just check. It was a bit of a hike back to the room, but the gardens are stunning and so well kept. We had a wonderful bath area, and the room was called Grand Deluxe, I think. The thing is, if they bought the prices down a bit, we would have gladly bought more and taken more of an advantage! Well worth a stay, but try get a good room rate via Agoda.

I'm traveling for three weeks in Thailand, and I feel like after staying here navigation just begun. I live many years in the state, so I already used to a very good customer service, it was very hard to find a good new hotel whit a excellent staff. This hotel is amazing he has everything I need for my vacation.. authentic Thailand experience in the middle of the world but with everything thought out new and modern! Amazing infinity pool very good restaurant with an amazing creative chef( prices are not high ). Extended for another night because I had a really good relaxing time, everyone went beyond making my stay amazing as possible. To treat myself I booked for myself full day spa, it was divine! I'm definitely coming back for more..

What a disappointment! A long way to travel and very expensive for at best maybe 3.5 star rating property. Some rooms like 212 are very bad then you have the pool villas which are nicer better presentation then you have the garden villas some old some refurbished then you have the private garden villas which are nice. The whole design of the resort does not lend itself to bad weather very slippery surfaces in the rooms at the pool at the breakfast area.Breakfast is a push you through process your central theme is your eggs which takes an eternity to be cooked by 1 chef so preoccupied there is no communication with guests this all while your other food gets cold!Lunch presentation is good and tasty. The best time is from 12 pm then its happy hour until 1 pm which makes drinks somewhat more affordable than the watered down drinks normally served. There are not enough pool lounges so the old German game of getting to the pool at the crack of dawn to book umpteen chairs happens all the time. The layout of the pool is stifled and dangerous with guests and staff slipping and hurting themselves.Sport and adult activity does not exist with the so called sports guy doing zero to get or do anything except walk around doing nothing. The resort is away from everything so after the most unprofessional check in you are told to take a taxi to the local restaurants if you want at 100 baht per person. The best thing about the place is its staff Donni who tried to fix our mess the guys at the pool and beach but no matter how great your staff if you have a property where no capital is spent to upgrade and meet the expectations then your staff are ham stringed.Wi Fi never worked.Love Thailand traveled their often this was our worst!

I was lucky enough to be invited to a family wedding at this resort in early March and what an idyllic setting it was. We arrived 4 days before the wedding and stayed 10 after to explore the island. So much to see and do on this small island. People are so friendly and amenable. Nothing is too much trouble and always smiling. It is worth re,mebering that this IS a tropical island and so the oddd bug or snake here and there is to be expected.
