Melati Beach Resort & Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand

With nearly 80 suites and villas fashioned after a Thai village - and over half of them boasting private plunge pools - the stunning Melati Beach Resort & Spa provides an exceptional retreat. Overlooking the cerulean waters of Thailand's Thongson Bay, and with a blanket of platinum sand tracing its coastal contours, this secluded sanctuary allows guests to be swathed in luxury from behind the doors of their luxe suites. Occasional bursts of color enliven calming neutral tones, and garden swings and outdoor tubs provide delightfully unexpected touches. The seemingly airbrushed quality of unobstructed bay views works to blur the line between reality and an Utopian paradise.

The lofty lobby conceals a terraced swimming pool and the beach beyond, where guests congregate beneath cloudless skies. There are two excellent restaurants, with one perfecting traditional Thai dishes and Asian specialties as the other prepares global cuisine from within an exhibition kitchen. You may also mix and mingle at one of two pool bars, or check out the lobby lounge to explore its wine cellar. If you are looking for total relaxation, indulge in a soothing spa treatment in one of the private spa villas. An herbal steam or body wrap will certainly leave you feeling incredibly supple and rejuvenated. The resort also has a library and reading area, but if you do not fancy yourself the bookish type - at least while on vacation - then engage in the vibrant club scene just minutes away. At Melati Beach Resort & Spa you can truly have it all - an incredibly relaxing experience and an invigorating turn on the dance floor.

Cannot fault this Resort.. the only slight issue we had was at check in when we were advised that we would have to secure our stay with 2000BHT per night deposit. This was not relayed to us at anytime when we made booking. This amount is excessive. However hotel waived for us in good faith.. thank you Melati. This hotel is about 15 minutes from Chaewang/Bophut. But well worth it if looking for relaxation and a little bit remote. Staff are outstanding at this Resort, they all deserve a pat on the back for the friendliness they show and service they provide. Food is also fantastic, buffet brekky has more than enough choice. Best Mango. All in all a fantastic Resort on Samui.

The two things which stand out are how beautiful the pool and beach area was and how incredibly friendly and lovely staff were. We really felt like we got to know a few of them during our 2 weeks. John especially learnt a new cocktail especially for us and we enjoyed it regularly! The entertainment, especially Net and Jobert and the fire show made for some really special and memorable evenings - we even loved it in the rain! Net and Jobert were particularly welcoming and played such wonderful music. Our room was really spacious and the bed was huge, also given how fantastic the main pool was we were really happy we had a standard room. The spa and fitness centre were really welcome additions to make the holiday special. The only thing which was a slight let down was just how expensive the food was, and it didn't stand out as being particularly memorable, which made it not worth the cost. We (like other couples) discovered the Thai restaurant on the same bay, which is authentic Thai and very reasonably priced so we often ate there. Overall though we absolutely loved our stay and I really hope we can come again another time.

Melati is a nice secluded resort. The selling point for me was the swim up bar and the rooms were of decent size and clean. The staff were all welcoming, especially Kevin (trainee) at the front door. He was always helpful. We made the most of happy hour at the swim up bar, 12-1pm and 5-6pm daily. At times the staff were slow to take our orders especially at the swim up bar. So we had to climb out of the pool and walk to the other side of the bar to get their attention.

Before I start my review I must point out that we had a great time as this hotel, and would recommend it to couples, families a like. We had a pool villa ( 404 ) which was great, having a separate lounge area. The hotel states that the villa's pool was totally private. It is not, but will be once the shrubs grow around the cane window area. The hotel facilities are very good. I had a massage, and we both tried the Thai restaurant. What makes this hotel is its staff, albeit the reception members need to be made aware they are the first and last ones we as customers see. The breakfast food was fantastic, if anyone cannot find something to like then you must have severe dietary issues. The hotel has " bar happy hours " ( 12 - 1 and 5 - 6 ). We went to this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis, expecting to eat out. The food in the hotel is off good quality , but a little expensive. Take a look at the Thongson Bay Bungalows restaurant which 50 yards away along the beach. It might be a 2 * set up but the food is good and the beer prices are a lot cheaper. The challenges we found were on arrival we were asked to give 1000 bht per person , per night insurance, which in our case was 20000 bht (Ā£500 ) which we were not made aware of prior to arrival. Within the hotel all services are priced, but you will need to add 10% service and 7% vat onto every bill. Do try the Melati Beach and Spa hotel you wont be disappointed
