Melati Beach Resort & Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand

With nearly 80 suites and villas fashioned after a Thai village - and over half of them boasting private plunge pools - the stunning Melati Beach Resort & Spa provides an exceptional retreat. Overlooking the cerulean waters of Thailand's Thongson Bay, and with a blanket of platinum sand tracing its coastal contours, this secluded sanctuary allows guests to be swathed in luxury from behind the doors of their luxe suites. Occasional bursts of color enliven calming neutral tones, and garden swings and outdoor tubs provide delightfully unexpected touches. The seemingly airbrushed quality of unobstructed bay views works to blur the line between reality and an Utopian paradise.

The lofty lobby conceals a terraced swimming pool and the beach beyond, where guests congregate beneath cloudless skies. There are two excellent restaurants, with one perfecting traditional Thai dishes and Asian specialties as the other prepares global cuisine from within an exhibition kitchen. You may also mix and mingle at one of two pool bars, or check out the lobby lounge to explore its wine cellar. If you are looking for total relaxation, indulge in a soothing spa treatment in one of the private spa villas. An herbal steam or body wrap will certainly leave you feeling incredibly supple and rejuvenated. The resort also has a library and reading area, but if you do not fancy yourself the bookish type - at least while on vacation - then engage in the vibrant club scene just minutes away. At Melati Beach Resort & Spa you can truly have it all - an incredibly relaxing experience and an invigorating turn on the dance floor.

We spent 5 night at The Melati Resort and Spa . The pool villa was stunning, full of amenities, beautiful bathroom and very comfortable bed. The gardens are lush and perfectly manicured, and the landscaping is truly gorgeous. The beach is nice and clean. Unfortunately the big disappointment was the food. The Thai restaurant's menu is very tourist oriented and the food is mediocre and overpriced. All the restaurants outside the Resort offer authentic quality food at half the price . It is a real pity that there's such a discrepancy between the quality of the accommodation and the meals available.

Many comments have already been noted in other reviews so I will stick to the key points that I can recall. Beach/Pool area - Great beach, almost private as it is shared with a few other apartment type stays next door, but never saw more than 5 people on the beach from outside the hotel. The beach is nice, I think someone mentioned that it wasn't as good as other beaches in Bophut, but this was just fine. Kayaking was free, just need to sign a form. No life guard on duty on the beach or the pool. Plenty of sun loungers on the beach which is right to the pool area/bar, so service was never far away. Massages available on the beach but better deals are to be had outside the resort. Pool was never really busy and is good for kids with a shallow. There is also a baby pool and sand pit at one end. Rentals - You can rent a car or scooter directly from the hotel at a reasonable price. I hired a scooter for about ÂŁ7 a day. You can hire a scooter for a cheaper price from Mr Pongs which is on the beach, but I think the bikes at the hotel are looked after a bit better. Happy hour - Most days at the pool bar between 12-1 and 6-7 at the main restaurant. Tell them to keep second on ice and they will bring it out later on. BBQ on the beach - Expensive as already noted but there is a live duet for the entertainment and also a fire show which is actually quite good. Managers Reception/Thai night in the main restaurant - Bizarre evening in the main restaurant. Was expecting to meet the manager but never did. However the food was very good and in abundance. The night also includes a pretend Muay boxing match (performed by Tup who also serves drinks in pool bar) and some local dancing. Room - We had a Pool Villa, decent size but the kids were not really impressed with the plunge pool and it only ever got used once. Frequent power cuts never for more than a few minutes but annoying at night when all the lights are out. Nice outdoor space though and a bit Balinese. Plenty of free water available. Outdoor shower was cold water only and also accessed via the main indoor shower which was a bit odd and therefore never utilised. Kids club - Was used on a few occasions and they do charge extra for some activities (not all) which I think is unnecessary. Location - A bit out of the way, but with my scooter I was able to drop off laundry and pick up bits and pieces from the mini-mart quite easily. There is strip of restaurants in Cheong Mon which is about 5 mins away by car. Chaweng and Fishermans Village both about 10-15 mins away. The hotel provides taxi service for 300 baht, which is not bad. Breakfast - service can be hit and miss and they need to change the guy in the egg station in my opinion. Overall not a bad hotel, would have been good to have a few more food options though as there is nothing within walking distance (other than restaurant next door which was always empty).

We were here for a wedding, but spent a week. Very spoilt rooms were fantastic, pools, restaurants, staff it had it all, yes at a cost but no complaints money well spent. Best breakfast view ever, staff went out of their way to make your stay memorable. The beach and water clean, family pool and adults only pool. Service excellent.

Amazing beach location, lovely settings, beautiful sea...BUT Hotel with no identity. Definitely not as luxurious as they market themselves as. Staff are very miserable and most of them don’t seem to be enjoying working there at all. I know the comments below will seem very negative but I was under the impression this would be a luxury hotel and clearly it wasn’t. Far too many little things that were a disappointment. So for the price we paid this was not good value for money. Check in After a very long flight from London we were undoubtedly exhausted but I wasn’t particularly impressed with check in procedures. They felt very long winded and it also felt it was just about getting your credit card deposit as soon as possible and trying to sell you top up cards to pay for drinks. We arrived just after 11 am and we didn’t get our room until 2 pm. I do appreciate this is hotel policy but none of the staff gave me the impression they were rushing to get our room ready, especially considering that the weather was terrible so we couldn’t really wait by the pool. Definitely didn’t feel Like a 5 star treatment Room We had room 307. Garden room with private pool. Location - close to lobby but pretty much as far from the pool as you can get. Room is spacious with lots of really good thoughtful things - Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, robes, flip flops, beach bag, toothbrush and toothpaste; etc Room is also very clean We asked for a 3rd robe and an extra pillow and they were there within minutes. The outside space is a bit pointless.. pool is a little tiny plunge pool and there are so many trees that you don’t get any sunshine so as lovely as it is I’m not quite sure if there is a point to it at all. Walls must be literally made of paper as we felt the tiniest movement from our next door neighbours. A young family with a newborn crying, a toddler screaming, parents shouting at them ... it felt they were in our room.. so this was very disappointing from a hotel that is meant to be 5 star. Restaurants Breakfast great although I’ve had better in other hotels (not in Thailand) Please note that service is terrible as most of the staff don’t really understand English very well (or any other language that is not Thai). We ordered coffee and got tea. Thai restaurant - very good although service quite slow and prices are extortionate compared to prices outside the hotel. Price was over £100 for 3 people. Please note that you can get a 2 course meal for 3 people for £25/30 just 10 minutes from the hotel. We lunched daily at Thongson bay which is next door. Food and drinks are more than half price from the melati. The view restaurant - we ordered pizzas and they were the worst pizzas we had ever eaten. Clearing of dirty plates is also a bit of a hit and miss in the melati restaurants. Beach/ pool Great pools and beach area. Nevertheless, often run out of towels by 9/9.30 am and there never seem to be enough sunbeds for everyone - which when you only have to cater for 77 rooms/villas I have no idea why it is so difficult to cater for everyone. Also forget about being on the beach after 3 pm every Thursday because of the beach bbq .. see comment below. A part from Baw the rest of the guys on the beach are not really customer focussed. I asked for 2 parasols at 7:50 and 20 minutes later the guy had still not done it - please note there was just me on the beach at that time and he carried opening parasols in his specific order rather than attend to the only person on the beach. This happened several times to both myself and my husband and I saw it happening to other people too. Weekly bbq on the beach Every Thursday the hotel does a beach bbq 1500 baht per person but you do get a melati t-shirt which is worth 490 baht!! How lucky!! Considering you can get a 3 course meal for 3 people outside of the hotel it really felt like daylight robbery. BUT that wasn’t the thing that I found annoying.. at 3 pm I was reading my book on the beach and was told rudely by staff that I had to move because they were setting up for the Bbq... bbq started st 6.30.. did they really need 3.5 hours? The answer is no as by 4.30 most of the table were set so yet again this place is just about the money. There was no apology from the staff at. You just need to move and that’s it. Clearly I’ve flown for 14 hours for a beach bbq rather than enjoying sunshine on the beach. Spa/massages Hotel spa - stupidly overpriced I had daily massage on the beach from local ladies and although still a bit more expensive than in other more touristy areas in Koh Samui it was still a good deal for 400 baht for 1 hour Thai or oil massage and ladies are lovely. Taxi Use the hotel service to get to places as prices are very honest and reasonable. For the way back do agree a price beforehand and do walk away if you are not happy with the price. Babysitting and kids club We didn’t use it but we talked to someone that did.. babysitting is 350 baht per hour and minimum charge is 4 hours. Kids club - any activity like painting or drawing is at an additional charge WiFi Literally you need to log in every 10 minutes.. and doesn’t automatically remember the password. Very annoying. Checkout Please make sure you don’t take anything from the room unless you want to pay for it - there is a full list of prices from face towel to remote control holder in the room information booklet. As soon as we called reception to let them know that our luggage could be collected they sent someone around within 2 minutes to check everything in the room and to ensure we hadn’t taken anything. The checkout itself was fairly smooth. The hotel has great shower facilities near the spa for late departures. They also offer a safety deposit box free of charge once you have checked out of your room so there is really no need for a late checkout room. Nevertheless do give yourself some time as it took over 10 minutes to get our luggage from bell room and the manager had also decided to change passcode on safety box without telling the rest of the staff.

This is a must for Family , The resort has multiple rooms with private pools at a very reasonable price. The main pool is great for swimming with the family and the swim up bar helps you slip into the afternoon. Staff are amazing nothing is a problem , resorts very clean and layed out well. The view from the main pool as the sun sets is amazing on a clear day. Location into the Heart of Koh Samui is a easy 10 minute drive by Taxi and costs 400 BHT. Close to prego restraunt for a nice Italian dinner as well.
