Melati Beach Resort & Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand

With nearly 80 suites and villas fashioned after a Thai village - and over half of them boasting private plunge pools - the stunning Melati Beach Resort & Spa provides an exceptional retreat. Overlooking the cerulean waters of Thailand's Thongson Bay, and with a blanket of platinum sand tracing its coastal contours, this secluded sanctuary allows guests to be swathed in luxury from behind the doors of their luxe suites. Occasional bursts of color enliven calming neutral tones, and garden swings and outdoor tubs provide delightfully unexpected touches. The seemingly airbrushed quality of unobstructed bay views works to blur the line between reality and an Utopian paradise.

The lofty lobby conceals a terraced swimming pool and the beach beyond, where guests congregate beneath cloudless skies. There are two excellent restaurants, with one perfecting traditional Thai dishes and Asian specialties as the other prepares global cuisine from within an exhibition kitchen. You may also mix and mingle at one of two pool bars, or check out the lobby lounge to explore its wine cellar. If you are looking for total relaxation, indulge in a soothing spa treatment in one of the private spa villas. An herbal steam or body wrap will certainly leave you feeling incredibly supple and rejuvenated. The resort also has a library and reading area, but if you do not fancy yourself the bookish type - at least while on vacation - then engage in the vibrant club scene just minutes away. At Melati Beach Resort & Spa you can truly have it all - an incredibly relaxing experience and an invigorating turn on the dance floor.

This was our first time visiting Thailand and what an amazing hotel it was. Room was very clean and spacious. The staff were very polite , there are a few restaurants in the hotel but we did choose to eat out and explore the different places around the area. The pool and beach are unreal and they have canoeing on the beach you can do that's free of charge. The hotel is quite far away from the restaurants etc and you do need to get a taxi. The hotel offers taxis to take you places however you have to pay the hotel direct and they are much more expensive. Amazing hotel and would definitely return. We had a lovely stay here.

My husband and I stayed at the Melati Resort and Spa for a week at the end of our vacation. We really enjoyed the stay, despite being nervous about the mixed reviews here on Tripadvisor. We did our research carefully before booking, and were aware of the potential downsides: remote location with expensive taxis, older resort, fairly expensive food etc. However, we were able to book a pool villa at the Melati when other five star properties were a bit out of our price range, and we were very happy. We were after a relaxed experience, so the fact that the resort was a fair way from most things was actually a positive for us. We did a few activities (cooking class, snorkeling trip, Fishermens Village night market) and it was not hard to arrange transport - just be prepared that transport can be expensive (400 baht for two people to Fishermens Village or Chaweng by taxi) but that is the same all over the island. We liked the beautiful private beach and the garden setting and we thought the food at the restaurants was good, especially at The View which has a fairly extensive menu. Food costs were about what we would pay at home, so we weren't horrified by the price as some reviewers were. There is a wee restaurant on the beach next to the resort if you want something a bit cheaper. We tried it once, and it was fine. There was often live music at The View in the evenings and one night they set up tables closer to the beach for couples to have a more romantic setting. But if you want night life you should stay closer to Chaweng or other spots. We loved the pool villa, especially since ours had a back gate that opened directly to the Sanctuary Pool, which is adults only. For most of our stay it was often only us at the SP, so it felt like we had our own pool set in a beautiful garden, with relaxing music. Fabulous! Unfortunately there was some construction going on near our villa and the Sanctuary Pool which interrupted our relaxation, but management very kindly agreed to upgrade us to a pool villa suite for our last two nights. The pool villa suites are a step grander than the pool villas - the best part is the pool is a few metres longer than at the Pool villas, which made it a great size and we spent most of our last two days in our own pool. They also have two bathrooms and a large living room that can be used as a second bedroom. Very nice indeed! Not everything was perfect. The wifi required us to re-enter our passwords every few hours or if we moved around the resort - this was a real pain and I hope they change it. The rooms are a little tired in places, so a bit less than 5 star luxury if you are used to brand new resorts. We had two spa treatments, and I was less than thrilled with my massages but I am fairly picky when it comes to massage and my husband liked his. I also wish the golf carts used by staff would slow down as they hurtle around the grounds. The staff here are delightful. Everywhere we went we were cheerfully greeted by everyone including gardeners. The managers and supervisors seemed genuinely interested in how our stay was going, and we felt very welcome. Mobility: if you have mobility problems you should be ok. I was concerned when I heard that the resort is built on a hill. But it is a gentle slope apart from the climb up to reception and the spa. And I do believe that the staff will give you a ride in the speedy golf carts if you wish. We only did this twice, once in the rain and once on checking out. There are a few stairs around the resort, so if you are concerned you should check with the staff. The resort was only half full while we were there, and we found it very relaxing. We didn't spend much time at the main pool, which was lovely, but I could imagine that it would get very busy during peak season. All the more reason to go for a room with a pool at that time, I imagine! The resort seemed to cater well for kids and families, as well as couples. We would definitely return.

My wife and I made our second visit to the Melati Beach resort in March 2017. We stayed in a Pool villa for the second time and loved it. The resort is laid out extremely well and is kept in good condition. The people make this resort special. From the Health Spa staff to reception across the board they can not do enough for you. We specifically went back to the Melati to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary after a stay in 2016. It is the little things that count, nothing is to hard. From Cyril helping me organise our anniversary dinner by email, Thu making our stay fantastic for a second time, Denis the Manager greeting us and checking on us thru out our stay, What, Fon and Best looking after us all day long at the pool. Fantastic food. I cannot recommend this resort enough, I had an idea of what our anniversary trip would be like and these guys exceeded it. Great facility, beautiful people. Thankyou all. Greg Byles

Absolutely love this place! From the friendly & helpful staff, to the beautiful gardens, amazing massages, tasty food & drinks and the goodbye note written on a leaf! My boyfriend and I could not fault this place and never wanted to leave. Thank you for everything and keep up the amazing work, this place is perfect. We will definitely be back, but for longer next time :) A special mention to Jacky, Joe and John by the pool bar who's service was outstanding!!

This resort was simply amazing, the attention to detail, the rooms and the service were well worth the money. We opted for the villa and it was very spacious with our own pool! The resort is located not to far from the main strip and you have the option of hiring a car or a moped. The resort has a gym which was good for holiday use and a wonderful spa.
