Reviews for The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui

Poor value for money with bad service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

Nice rooms but terrible service. Mediocre food and very high prices and with really poor service. We stayed at 4 different hotels as part of our family tour of Thailand and this stay was by far the most disappointing. The pool area was dirty and the pool itself is in very bad condition. The beach right next to the hotel is full of rubbish which is sad too. A lot of the rubbish includes the plastic water bottles that the hotels uses for it’s guests.

Amazing Stay

Outstanding in every aspect, Ritz Samuai is a true gem deserving of a five-star rating. From the moment I arrived, the staff's warm hospitality made me feel like a cherished guest. The rooms are exquisitely designed, offering a perfect blend of comfort and luxury. The dining experience is unforgettable, with a variety of exceptional restaurants. The staff's attentiveness and personalized service are unparalleled. The hotel's facilities, including the spa and fitness center, are top-notch. I highly recommend it for an extraordinary and unforgettable stay.

Underwhelming

We arrived on 28th March at 7pm (so not late) after around 23 hours of travelling and was greeted with a piece of paper to sign and a credit card machine, no water or cold towels, which was not the best first impression! We were whisked off to our room, which was spacious and clean, unfortunately on waking the next morning we were horrified to find that our balcony looked straight at a road, which made it uncomfortable to use. We spoke to Richard Marco, who was very good, and he moved us 2 days later, to a room with a lovely view. We had a 2 bed family room, which is very spacious with 2 living areas and 2 bathrooms. The rooms were kept very clean and the cleaning staff were brilliant. Room tip is to make sure you don’t get room 201 or 203 and I’m sure there’s a few others! We ate in the restaurant the first night and the food was pretty good, however the price was beyond extortionate, we had 3 curries, 3 breads and 2 rice, and that with a couple of drinks came to £162 - this would be enough for 4-5 nights outside the hotel. The resort is quite vast so buggies run you to where you need to go, which is pretty good, and we never really had any waiting time for buggies. The biggest criticism of this hotel is the pool area, it looked lovely walking down to it, but when you are close up it really needs closing down and refurbishing, the pool is quite literally falling apart as per my pictures, so there are sharp edges, loose tiles, missing tiles etc. the towels by the pool need putting in a bin and starting again, they are horrendous, they are all stained and look dirty before you’ve even laid them out, and the sun loungers have seen better days!! We used the spa facilities and they were very good and having use of the spa pool is nice. Unfortunately we wouldn’t consider coming back and I would put this hotel as a 4 star at best. There are far better hotels on the island for less money.
