W Koh Samui

This hotel and their incredible staff and service made this the best hotel we have ever stayed at. (FYI we are “empty-nester” Brits who travel a lot!) Summary - What ticked our boxes - barefoot luxury - not opulent but low key understated luxury, attention to detail both in our villa and across the entire hotel, ultimately and mainly due to the incredible staff and their impeccable level of service (see more below) Being treated like valued guests made us feel incredibly special. The varied dining offerings together with relaxed atmosphere, location and setting also put a big smile on our faces. Nothing was left to question, and nothing was too much trouble. Oh and did I mention FREE ice creams, and numerous in-room unexpected free surprises with hand written personalised cards - including cold beers, gifts and sweet treats brought regularly and simply for being a valued guest! The staff and service - This is what makes this hotel stand out for us. We have never experienced such a high level of genuinely friendly and unquestionable service. It never felt subservient or forced, as some places can feel. The thoughtful yet relaxed attention to detail and effort put in by all staff whether management, reception, dining, kitchen, housekeeping, bell-boys, porters, bar, pool, beach, gardeners, maintenance, or security was a pleasure to witness and experience. Everyone appeared to love their jobs, which is something you don’t see very often. There was a genuine feeling of camaraderie between staff members, and a sense that they are all happy to be there, which makes a refreshing and noticeable change from most other hotels we have stayed at. ***** The Detail - Location - Situated in the north of Koh Samui about 20 mins from the airport we arrived at the beautiful W Koh Samui Hotel (part of Marriott Bonvoy group). We chose this hotel due to its proximity (10 mins) to Fisherman’s village for nightlife and restaurants as we were travelling with friends. Arrival - NOTE: The hotel offers complimentary airport transfers. Set in a hillside overlooking the beach and stunning views to Koh Phangan in the distance you are met by the friendliest staff with welcome drink who ensure your check in is nothing but smooth and stress free. As Marriott Gold Elite members (thru Amex) we were given hotel credits amounting to THB9000 and 10% dining discount as part of our stay, which was a nice unexpected bonus. NOTE: although on a hillside - golf buggy’s collect you at a moment’s notice and take you whenever or wherever you need to go within the grounds. Our Villa - We were then whisked down the hill through well kept gardens and pathways by golf buggy to our beautiful 1 King Bed, Premier Beachfront Villa. NOTE: if you are booking this villa, the view directly onto the beach from your pool deck (as shown on the website) is now obscured by bamboo privacy fencing and gates, so although you are on the beach you do not have a view of the beach. I’m guessing but I think this could maybe be due to other holiday makers from other accommodation further along the beach trying to make “use” of the W hotel facilities without paying .. so I think this may have been done to protect guests privacy, and the hotel from non-paying outsiders. (The staff are vigilant and on top of this situation) Our villa left nothing to question with huge comfortable bed, luxury bedding, ample wardrobe/drawer space and an abundance of clothes hangers! The living area had comfortable sofa, enormous flat screen TV and welcome drinks and snacks. The bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower, enormous bathtub all with direct access to your pool, also included a TV and was equipped with hairdryer and every amenity kit you could think of including top end hair washing products. There was complimentary Nespresso coffee machine, kettle a choice of teas together with plenty of bottled drinking water and fresh milk. The chargeable minibar contained numerous snacks plus beer, wine, choice of spirits and soft drinks. The private pool ran the complete length of the villa and was as warm as bath water. The private pool deck was well equipped with large double cabana style sun bed, 2 individual sun beds, table with parasol and 2 chairs. The Beach - With views across to Koh Phangan the beach is beautiful and the sea is azure. Set on a small peninsula with beach bar/restaurant showers and toilets, with plenty of deep cushioned sun beds, cabanas and lazy bean bags for everyone’s comfort preferences plus towels, sun tan lotion, glasses cleaning equipment and plenty of fresh drinking water. Being on a peninsula means the beach has two distinct sides .. the no wind side with still and calm waters and no breeze .. or the windy side - great for kite surfers/boarders with slightly choppier water. Snorkelling off the beach is possible, plus there is a water sports kiosk and volleyball net. The Pool - The pool is set up in the hillside with incredible views. It’s not the biggest pool (as I believe many of the villas come with their own pools) but is well equipped with numerous deep cushioned sun beds and parasols, plus towels sun tan lotion, drinking water and showering facilities. It never seemed too busy, and was definitely a place for families to allow their children to be children without disturbing the rest of the hotel. The Restaurants - 3 restaurants offered a variety of dining. The Kitchen Table - located up on the hillside served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a delight and there is so much choice on offer for every taste and every dietary requirement. Nothing is too much trouble .. the kitchen voluntarily made my husband fresh coconut yoghurt daily due to his dairy intolerance, and every member of staff knew about his intolerance and would offer alternatives to him wherever we dined without us having to tell/ask them each time .. that was a breath of fresh air! Dinner here also didn’t disappoint.. with everything from delicious Thai menu to a bbq night .. everything was possible. Namu - located on the beach served an exquisite à la carte Japanese menu .. if you like sushi then I highly recommend the sashimi for starters and the fish main courses were fantastic. The Beach Grill - located on the beach and open from lunchtime to around 5pm serves casual lunch menu with everything from tacos and burgers to poke bowls. The Bars - Beach bar - low key and friendly with every cocktail you can imagine available… In complete contrast to the Woo Bar (below) this bar offers a peaceful, tranquil and relaxed place to be in the evenings. Woo Bar - located at the highest point of the hotel on the hill and provides incredible views. A hyper-trendy Instagram vibe, this bar attracted visitors from outside the hotel mainly due to its Instagram appeal, with round sofas set literally within a large ornamental pool. Offering nightly fire show regular DJ’s in addition to the music vibe and incredible cocktails, together with bar menu for light bites. The Spa - I booked a stress reliever 1 hr signature massage treatment. It was one of the best I’ve ever experienced… serene setting and attention to detail is the key here. It’s so much more than a simple massage and definitely worth the money THB1500 (£34). The Departure - It’s not often we say we don’t want to leave .. but W Koh Samui Hotel truly made us feel this way. It felt like an abundance of staff including management were there to wave us off (or perhaps to make sure we left!) Our stay at W Koh Samui was absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The hotel itself is beautiful, the atmosphere is amazing, and every detail feels thoughtfully designed. What truly made the experience exceptional, though, was the staff. Everyone was incredibly kind, attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. We felt like we were being treated as VIPs throughout our entire stay. Every request was handled with a smile, and the level of service was honestly beyond anything we expected. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable experience, and you can really feel that they care about their guests. W Koh Samui is easily one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. We absolutely loved every minute and would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you to the entire team for an amazing stay! ❤️
