We stayed for 3 nights in an ocean front room, which wasn't nearly enough! It is rare for us to vacation and have no interest in leaving the confines of a resort, but this resort was the exception. The views from the bar area were magnificent, the service was perfect, and the food and drinks were all excellent. The ocean front room is strongly recommended as it offered privacy in the private pool yet a view out to the ocean. We arranged the Mercedes car service from the airport and it was very timely and comfortable. If you are looking for a resort for a special occasion where you just want to relax then the W is your place.

The only thing that beats the stunning views and spacious villas are the staff. Too many to name them all but throughout the hotel everyone we met on our short stay was friendly and absolutely welcoming. Special thanks to Phillip for the Family Mart ride ;) The moment you walk in the hotel you can enjoy the amazing view from the lobby/bar while checking in, and you realize directly that it is a special and different hotel. The villas with private pool have a great size with a nice touch that you can open the bathroom completely which is directly connected to the pool. Both restaurants offered delicious food and the breakfast choice was one of the best we have encountered on all our travels. The beach is stunning, however the sand maybe a bit rough. Location of the Hotel also very good and just 5min drive to the walking street. All in all a great experience and can just recommend this place for all who want something special.

We purchased a Luxury Escapes Package at the W because it was a great all inclusive deal with transfers, breakfasts, drinks and spa treatments in a pool villa. I have stayed at many a W from Bali to New York and have always loved their twist on the usual hotel stay. All photos, advertising and editorial on the W Koh Samui focus on the amazing rooftop bar with it's Dj's, quirky design and breathtaking views. And we were similarly blown away. As we arrived early and our room wasn't ready we were offered a complimentary breakfast which was just fantastic, up their with the Ten Best Buffet Breakfasts I've ever had. A friend we were travelling with had arrived earlier and when we texted how was the room, she responded you'll see. As our room was down towards the beach we were taken in a buggy, passing scrappy gardens and huge swathes off concrete paths with the roughest concrete edging I've have ever seen. We pulled up at our villa and the door and surrounds were badly weathered there was wrappers and chunks of concrete in the garden bed next to our step. The first impression was okay, there was a lot to take in. It was a very big, long red room. Once we stopped and looked around we noticed much of the wood was weathered and faded, the strange Red Cocoon lights and lamps were laden with dust. The curtains were wet from the bath and the bathroom surfaces were covered with paint flecks that we could pick off with our finger nails. The mirrors had glass cancer, the rubbish bins were chipped and broken, the glass shower screens were smudged and dirty. Outside the wooden boards were rotting and there was algae in the corner of the pool. It also featured synthetic lawn. The room felt like it needed a bloody good clean and the over abundance of stuff in bright red just wasn't stylish in the least. We rang and raised our concerns a lovely guest manager came down and acknowledged all of them. He was going to get housekeeping to do a thorough clean on the room. Staff were nothing other than professional and helpful but they can't change rooms that have deteriorated very quickly. After we got back we were told that we had both been moved to new rooms that had been freshly cleaned. The rooms were definitely clean but the wear and tear was probably even more obvious. We walked around the resort and the gardens weren't at all of the usual tropical variety, they were shruby and the overwhelming feature was concrete. In terms of value, the food was great, a three course meal every night with a wide and expansive menu, the spa treatments were terrific and the resort was great in allowing you to add on to your treatment for a small extra charge. However they were anal about the drink vouchers being presented and it being the correct date and you only using one per day. There is nothing luxurious about being made to feel your trying to get an extra drink out of them. This is something Luxury Escapes should look at as we encounter it a lot. Why not just get ten drink vouchers and how and when you use them is up to you. The best part of the deal was an amazing afternoon tea, the hotel has gorgeous Bliss amenities and a good gym. As for Koh Samui, I wouldn't be racing back to the town unless you are interested in bars, copy leather bag places, pharmacies and tacky spa's that try to rip you off. The W is owned by Marriot and while the resort is only 7 years old it is in definite need of some TLC if it wants to be considered 5 Star and Marriot are renowned for leaving their refurbs to well past their due date. My recommendation go for a drink, take a selfie and admire the view because you have seen the best the W Koh Samui has to offer.

Wanting a reprieve from winter we were enticed by an advertisement for W Retreat in Koh Samui. Our six days there proved to be perfect. The staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. It was certainly worth upgrading to a beach-side apartment which was large and very comfortable with its own pool. The furnishings and artwork are typically off the wall W. Spectacular views from Wow Bar and the pool and a wonderful beach. What's not to love?
