For several years now, a group to which I belong has had a conference at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and each stay has been wonderful. The rooms are clean and pleasant, the staff cheery and helpful and the facilities top notch. There is something for everybody, but we go mostly to relax and enjoy the sun. We succeeded.

We ate at the Moana Lani Resort Buffet with crab and prime rib being the top food. The buffet was well-appointed lots of different options the crab and the prime rib were to die for. The view is nice and the atmosphere friendly. The staff was great. Our waitress was Lovely, no she really was, that was her name. it was a great evening we would go again

This has to be the best hotel on the Big Island. This was my 4th time, and each time it just gets better. In addition to an extraordinarily beautiful hotel with two beaches that are great for swimming and snorkeling, the tennis center/spa is first-rate. The tennis pros at the center made sure my group and I had courts for both tennis and pickleball every day, and they provided us with ice water and Gatorade at each court. The restaurants are all excellent, but of particular note is Napua, the restaurant that sits atop the farther beach. It is worthy of a Michelin star....or 4. That's how exceptional it is. I had organized a group of couples and singles to go to the Mauna Lani for 5 days, and there was 100% satisfaction. After the $90 million renovation, which should be done in November 2019, we are all coming back.

We stayed at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel for 4 nights in September. The hotel grounds were expansive and open - nothing can compare to the tradewind breeze through the hotel lobby area. Unlike other modernized - somewhat standard -cookie cutter hotels, the Mauna Lani Bay was a real Hawaiian hotel with charm, simplicity, and personality. Staff were friendly and very welcoming. Rooms were simple and spacious with a nice view of the ocean and the pool. Beach area was expansive an very relaxing. Many cabana chairs spread out down the beach - never fighting crowds and you could spend all day listening to the waves reading a book. Snorkel equipment rental was included, stand up paddle boards or kayaks rentals were available. Kids spend all day at the pool / beach. The hotel also had bikes that you could ride (no charge). Shopping center was within walking distance and the Fairmont was down the street. Food service poolside was good for lunch - great smoothies. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant on the hotel grounds, but enjoyed eating around the area - Sansei (great sushi) and Pueos Osteria (Italian) in Waikoloa - good food! The Manuna Lani may need some updating (bedding a bit worn), gift shop a little dated; but the simplicity of the facility was part of the beauty. Really able to relax and enjoy. Recommend a trip to the beach at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort about 10 minutes away - good snorkeling and a big beautiful, beautiful beach. Enjoyed our stay - will return.

My husband accuses me of being a sucker for great high end hotels and he's right. The Mauna Lani was my first and I fell in love about 20 years ago. We have been back now five times. The service is impeccable, though relaxed, not fussy. The people are genuine. The mid-century vibe of the architecture is great. The rooms have pleasing proportions and furnishings. Very comfy beds. Very nice bathrooms. Separate double sinks! Almost all the rooms in the hotel have ocean views. But the stand out aspect of the resort is the site. Located on a point the main beach faces a small lava and coral ringed pool for sheltered swimming. The pool area is directly behind the beach, so the view is great whether you like your water salty or not. There is a casual dining spot that shares a side with both the pool and the beach. The hotel is next to ancient Hawaiian fish ponds and a petrogylph park and a huge indoor/outdoor natural aquarium traverses the main floor of the interior and grounds. There are two pools devoted to raising baby sea turtles for release to the wild. The entertainment from the Hawaiian traditional songs and hula on the mezzanine to the jazz in the bar at night is first rate. The setting and food at The Canoe House restaurant is spectacular.
