In short, we had a great stay at the Hyatt that was highlighted by the amazing room view, impeccable resort grounds, and great location. Now, buckle up for the full review below if you want all the details. Location: ~25 minutes from the airport. Very good home base for a week spent around the island. Staying here allowed us to visit both the Waimea Canyon area and the North Shore. The towns of Poipu and Koloa are ~5 minutes away have some great shops and restaurants. Resort is ON the beach, some other ones nearby are not. Check-In: Easy process with no wait on a Sunday afternoon and Ronald gave us a very warm welcome. Helped set the tone for a great stay. Room: Our ocean view room #5030 had an incredible view that we enjoyed from the lanai throughout our visit. We spent a lot of time on the lanai just having a drink, reading, and taking in the view. Inside the room the bathroom was updated, but the rest of the room could use a little refresh. The lounge chair was quite tired, but the room was still clean. Our AC did not work very well, but we were so tired every night and loved our view so much that we never got around to reporting the issue. Dining: Due to our desire for more casual dining and preference to explore the local options, we never ate at any of the restaurants the whole week. Instead, we ate out or brought it back to our balcony to eat. We ate breakfast each morning and some dinners at the Grand Club (more on that below). Tidepools and Stevensons in particular had incredible settings/views, but all the on-site options are quite pricey. When I come to Hawaii, I want fresh fish with no frills; I can eat steak in Chicago. But that's just my style :) Grand Club: Access was included with the upgraded room we booked, so we utilized the club every day. Breakfast had one hot option each morning (eggs, quiche, hash, etc.) as well as fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, etc. Happy hour included discounted alcoholic beverages from an honor bar, one hot appetizer (wings, dumplings, sliders), salad, miso soup, cheese and bread, fruit, and some other small items. The salad changed each day and the dressings were quite good, so if you like the hot appetizer you can make this your dinner. The club has a great view and outdoor seating. Pools and Beach: The pools and grounds around them make this resort pretty special. There is a lazy river, an adult pool (14+) with multiple sections, a family pool, and a saltwater lagoon. Each has their own use but all of them are well kept and a joy to lounge around. The grounds are immaculate and there are tons of water features and flowers to look at. The beach is not great for swimming, but it is a great place to relax and watch the waves crash. Try to snag one of the swings and watch the sun set! Spa: We used the spa once purely for relaxation purposes. There is a lap pool in the middle with daily aerobic sessions. The male section had a nice locker room with great outdoor lava rock showers, and a clothing options section with hot tub, dry sauna, and wet sauna. Tips for Guests: - Definitely go Ocean View as the view made our stay very memorable and some rooms just stare into the trees/parking lots. - Ask what the menu in the grand club will be for the week so you can plan which nights you can make a dinner out of it. - Bring mugs for poolside drinks - i'm sure the hotel doesn't love me pointing this out - but you can buy drinks from the lobby shop and fill up your mugs in your room to use by the beach/pool and save a ton of money (beers are $8+ and drinks $12+ by the pool and at the bars). - Hike from the hotel past Shipwreck beach up the cliff for some killer views. Pretty easy terrain that most people should be able to handle. Tips for Hotel: - Make sure AC can actually reach the requested temperature in each room and ensure ceiling fan settings work properly. The high settings on our fan made it the slowest so we never got much circulation. - Add more chairs to the adult pool. There are too many cabanas and it is a struggle to snag a chair unless you are down very early. This would seal the deal for adults worried about too many loud kids at the pool. - Add a casual poke bar or fish taco place for dining. Not everyone wants white tablecloth meals every time.

Stayed here last week, Hotel grounds are good, food is below average, service was good. The pool was great with one dangerous exception. On Friday night there was the Cosmic Waterslide. Took the family to find that the laser lights and fog machine were plugged in near the water at the slides landing pool. The fog machine was propped up and loose on the rock side of the pool 3 inches from the water where any kid could grab it and pull it directly into the water. Further inspection showed a computer power strip was used to plug in the laser lights and fog machine. The power strip was 2 feet from the pool, laying on the ground at pool deck level with exposed plugs and no water proofing. No evidence of a GFCI either, though the source outlet could have been protected. I pulled the family from the pool and alerted the staff in charge of the setup, who had no idea what he was doing. Called the front desk to inform them that they had a serious safety issue on their hands. Never heard back. Please resolve this professionally by installing permanent water safe, electrically safe professional grade equipment away from the waters edge before you hurt some innocent kids.

A big Mahalo to Kyle for the fab room, Samantha in the honors lounge for her tremendous Aloha and Gregg and Nalani in the Hyatt kids camp! Every time I go here everything is perfect. From the lei you get when you arrive you feel welcomed and the stress of travel starts disappearing. This hotel is run to perfection with much of the staff long time employees. It was great for my son who felt he was coming to visit his "ohana" family with everyone hugging him and welcoming him back. If you have kids treat them to some time in Hyatt kids - so much fun for him and an added bonus they would have him make picture frames with pics of him from the day. The pools are all amazing you will never want to leave! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. If you are in Kauai and trying to figure out where to stay - this is the place - whether you are here on a honeymoon or a family vacation or just "getting away" there is truly no place better to go!

This property is really beautiful and is thoughtfully planned out for relaxing. The condition of our rooms were a little worn, there's no fan in the bathrooms, but the beds are really comfortable, and the air conditioning system is nice and quiet.

We had a group of thirteen family members, including a 2, 4, 5 and 7 year old! We had a fantastic time and enjoyed the hotel grounds, the pool, the restaurants, the spa, the exercise rooms and the staff. You do get some walking in because the hotel sits on a hill but we enjoyed that.
