About the Hotel

There are two ways to reach Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi. One is by speedboat from Ao Nang – the option most guests choose – and the other is by a steep trail over the craggy mountain peaks that shelter the resort from the rest of the world. Centara sits alone in a valley of palm trees on the banks of a sheltered cove. Sunbathers love this idyllic setup – the beach is long, and privacy is easy to find – while adventurer-seekers head to the Andaman Sea at the helm of a chartered boat. Rooms and villas, meanwhile, are built in a traditional Thai architectural style, with tropical pops of color enlivening an open-plan layout.

Beautiful, romantic hotel badly in need of renovation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the hotel, staying in a Premium Deluxe Spa Ocean View King room. Overall, the hotel is beautiful - the beach and the location is gorgeous and it felt incredibly romantic to sit on the beachfront to watch the sun set. The pool is quite big and is split into 3 parts, so there's a kids area, a water slide with a basketball net, and then a slightly quieter area. The only disappointment with the pool is that lots of people were getting up early to reserve a sun lounger, but if you want one that's in the shade, then you should be ok. You have to realise that because you can only reach the hotel by boat, you are a captive audience, so the prices for food & drink are more expensive, but aren't ridiculous. The pool and beach area are serviced by the Coast restaurant, which has a happy(ish) hour between 3 - 5pm each day, offering buy 2, get 1 free on drinks. We only ate pizza here, and it was ok. A draft Chang beer was 190B, cans are 140B (they are slightly cheaper in your minibar). The ferry service to the Pier is fast and don't be put off by the hotel telling you that you need to book 24 hrs in advance, as you can do it with a few hours notice, but you're taking a bit of a risk of there being space on the boat. It would have been better if they could run the boat every 30 mins instead of every hour from the hotel to the pier - bizarrely, in the morning, there's a ferry at 8am but then the next is 10am, which means that if you're travelling to Krabi airport for a 12:30 flight, once you've checked out, you could be waiting a long time for your flight! Breakfast was included in the price, and the food choice was huge! Breakfast is served from 6:30-10:30am, and if you get there around 10:10, then you may find that some of the food choices have ran out, as the staff do not replace them (e.g. bread rolls, cheese, dim sum etc). The restaurant is chaotic though, as you need to order specialty coffee from the barista station, and there is only one person working there, so there tends to be a crowd of people shouting for drinks - no queues (but I know that's a British thing! :) ) Our room was big and the bed was comfortable - it was also quite clean, but it felt very dated. Our outdoor area with the jacuzzi faced out to the sea, which was wonderful, but the area was in disrepair - the wooden slats on the bannisters/railings were rotting and you could see exposed metal bars running through the centre of them, showing that it had been like that for a long time - and that was evident across the resort. The tiles around the jacuzzi were loose and/or had been misplaced using sealant. Also, the tap sits exposed on top of the tub and wasn't working properly meaning that depending on how you turned it, it could pour water out onto the deck instead of into the tub! My final gripe with the hotel is with the reception / switchboard. Our room was set quite away from reception, so if we needed something for the room, you need to dial '0' for the switchboard...sometimes the phone would ring for some time before it was answered, and if you needed something for the room, then you would wait ages for it to be delivered. Check out was incredibly efficient - we told the hotel we needed to be on the 8am ferry on the day of our departure when we first checked in, and on the day, the bellman knocked on our door at 7:20am to collect our bags (although we hadn't asked them to). By 7:40am, I had settled the bill at reception, and by 7:50am, I couldn't access the wifi any more! Overall, I would have given 2 stars, as the hotel needs renovation, including a better switchboard and more staff at breakfast. However, it gets an additional star for the fantastic setting on the beach and the views from your room.

Not for Couples

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This is a family beach resort. I don’t recommend it for couples, but there were a lot of things to do for children. I disliked that despite the air conditioner in my room being set to 19 degrees it didn’t get colder than 23. The service upon arrival was not what i am used to in thailand, no cold towel or welcome drink however i was given a voucher for a welcome drink so maybe i just arrived too late. The air conditioner wasn’t turned on in room before arrival and the pools close at 7pm. The room was clean and the service at the beach bar was exceptional and friendly. The location is great close to town and right on the beach.

Mediocre hotel with a 5-star attitude problem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

You would feel stranded as the hotel staff is rude and unresponsive. The boat shuttles are infrequent and heavily booked. The security deposit is a scam because they don’t refund!
