About the Hotel

Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.

Reviews for Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa

Fun and relaxing weekend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

My friend and I stayed at Estancia to celebrate a big birthday for her. We loved everything about Estancia. The room was beautiful, clean, and had everything we needed. Our little balcony overlooked a beautiful courtyard with a fountain. The feel of the resort is relaxing and peaceful. There are so many great spots to sit and enjoy a coffee or a cocktail-- both inside and outside. The lobby fireplace and bar are so inviting. The fire pits and lounge chairs outside were perfect for a drink and catching up. The staff is exceptional-- everyone from the valets, to the front desk, bar tenders, market workers, housekeeping, spa employees, and concierge-- they all went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend Estancia!

Stolen Luxury Item - ZERO accountability

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My stay at Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa was pleasant—until it wasn’t. After checking out on September 28, 2025 (Room 235), I discovered that I had left my $900+ Salvatore Ferragamo belt in my room. The item was last seen inside the room prior to checkout. Housekeeping denied finding it, and after a claims process managed by a third party, my claim was denied (3 months later)—despite the item disappearing while the room was under hotel staff access. Let me be very clear: When a high-value personal item vanishes after housekeeping enters a room and the hotel takes zero responsibility, that is a serious failure—whether due to negligence or something worse. Luxury hotels charge luxury prices because guests expect security, accountability, and integrity. Estancia La Jolla delivered none of those when it mattered most. What’s most disappointing is not just the loss of the item, but the complete lack of accountability. No resolution. No ownership. No reassurance that this wouldn’t happen again. Instead, I was left with the unmistakable impression that guest trust is optional here. I will never return to this property, nor would I recommend it to anyone who values their belongings. If you stay here, assume anything left in your room is at your own risk. A beautiful property means nothing if you can’t trust the people behind the doors.

Not a 4 star facility

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The same feedback that is listed here was given to the hotel. Assuming a 1-5 star rating, your facility is not 4 star. Facilities at this star rating are expected to have staff that are trained to serve the particular clientele that frequents such facilities. Your staff is amateurish and more suited to a 3 star facility, from your valet to front desk to food service. The only staff who were professional were your groundskeepers. The enthusiasm of staff and whether they are genuine is often an accurate reflection of how a hotel is run and the reflection I saw was bland, superficial, and forced. Food: more suited to a 2 star facility - its quality, attention to detail, and taste reminded me of breakfast buffets at a Staybridge Suite or Hampton Inn. Grounds: lawns were mostly covered with artificial turf, again, not something you see in a 4 star facility. Room: the mattress in my room was more like a Motel 6 mattress with a topper to mask its poor quality; hence, my sleep quality wasn't very good. Spa: I tried to use the sauna and steam room, which cost $65 and was turned away unless I got a service. It was clear that you are prioritizing your higher dollar value clients. Check-in experience: At check-in, we were told checkout is at 11am. When we requested a late checkout, it was only moved to noon and the staff would not budge. In our experience of nearly a decade, a 4pm or 2pm are the norm with The Edit line of hotels. This facility has potential to be very Spanish-style authentic IF a number of changes were made to it. I understand that competitive pressures may entice the management to make choices between quality and cost but that is the challenge. Where there is a will, there is always a way. In my lived experienced, Estancia La Jolla is not worthy of the Edit by Chase line of hotels that it advertises to it highest tier of clients.
