About the Hotel

Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.

Awesome and educational bar experience with Phil

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Wow! I love tequila and had no idea what to order. The bartender Phil is so awesome, he suggested a drink I normally would have never ordered. It was amazing and refreshing on a hot day at the outdoor bar, and it was fun more than anything because he took the time to educate us about tequilas, which ones have additives, etc. Great experience!

Phil, was the most knowledgeable bar tender this side of the Mississippi. He understands his Tequila, gins and he makes the best margarita and smoke and mirrors. Estancia is an amazing resort and the poolside cafe serves delicious food.

Phil the bartender is very knowledgeable behind the bar! I asked for a tequila drink and said please be creative. It was literally one of the best drinks I ever had! Cheers Phil!

Excellent Resort - Perfectly Located

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I spent a lot of time deciding where our family should stay for a big anniversary weekend. I was looking for a location that was easily accessible for San Diego attractions (e.g. the zoo) and also Legoland and Estancia fit the bill - a short ride in both directions. More importantly, I was looking for a place that had an elegant but relaxed atmosphere, that was not a kiddie resort and yet would be great for our grandkids (the pool, lawn area, etc.). I couldn't have selected better. We all loved the Estancia. The suites are beautifully designed and everything is close by. We had an outstanding (albeit expensive) dinner at Mustangs and Burros and informal breakfast every day. (The breakfast sandwich was the best). All the staff were very well-trained and super-responsive. The one thing I'll note is that I think for Labor Day Weekend they were understaffed. Rooms weren't made up until late afternoon. They ran out of clean towels at the pool. It's a minor note and I'm not going to take a way a star because I think it must be really hard to retain enough staff these days. I/we wouldn't hesitate to return. It was a special weekend and a special place.
