About the Hotel

Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.

Reviews for Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa

Beautiful and fun!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 20 hours ago

Overall beautiful, relaxing and great atmosphere. The hotel staff were very nice! The holiday lights and decorations made it really fun! There are some things that can make this place even better from a guest standpoint. The spa bathroom and amenities need to be updated. The room walls are thin which is tough for light sleepers like me but the rooms are beautiful.

Quiet luxury in La Jolla

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

This is the second time we stayed and our experience was even better than the first. The location is in a quiet part of La Jolla across the street from UCSD, and the grounds are beautiful and tranquil. Our room was well appointed and the quality of the breakfast was amazing. The service was top notch. The whole experience was the epitome of relaxed luxury in every corner of the resort. Multiple fireplaces both indoors and out made for very comfortable seating for an after dinner drink. It is a little pricey, but we will keep it high on our list of places to stay in La Jolla.

Friendly staff, convenient location for La Jolla

Cute little hotel with an old Spanish feel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcome. We picked a busy weekend with weddings and conferences going on, so sometimes the valet people were overwhelmed but they were efficient. It was nice to be able to scan our ticket so they could have our car ready in advance as needed, and they charged our car for us as well, with in and out privileges. The room itself was small but clean enough. We were not in the room much except to sleep. No tubs unless you get a suite or wheelchair accessible room. They did upgrade us to the garden view which was nice, and though it was a bit of a walk to get to our room, it was farther away from any noise. I thought it was nice that we could text the front desk to ask for things we needed instead of having to call them. The Mexican restaurant on site was very good. Their regular menu is pricey, but it was to be expected for a hotel restaurant. However, their happy hour menu was decently priced, had great portions, and the food was delicious. Our server was also just great. I wish I remembered her name, but she was tall and had braces. Their other restaurant, Greenfinch, is pretty good. Their food is American classics with some twists. We went there for breakfasts and again, though pricey, the food was good with decent portions. I didn't really like their scrambled eggs though, they might be powdered eggs. Our server Karina was very sweet to our kid and attentive to our needs. We also really liked the cinnamon rolls from their little gift shop. Sonja (?) actually went out of her way to find some cinnamon rolls for us because we really wanted to try them but they were always sold out when we tried to get them. Overall this is a great little hotel to stay at if you want to explore the La Jolla area. There is a train nearby that can take you to other parts of San Diego while bypassing traffic (traffic is awful in SD), and UCSD is really close if you want to walk through it.
