Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa in La Jolla, California

Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.

This coastal hideaway is set on nearly ten tree-laden acres coupled with fragrant ground coverings such as rosemary and sage. The hotel houses a collection of freestanding Spanish buildings coupled with hidden courtyards and trailing pathways. Equestrian-style doors and sky-lit windows add a light and airy feeling to the plush guest rooms. Slip into the fitness room for an early morning workout, spend the afternoon draped across a massage table or do a little celebrating sideways at the hotel's very own wine bar. Dips in the cabana-flanked pool prove to be refreshing day or night. Venture off property to discover the pounding surf, verdant fairways, hidden hiking trails and protected wetlands. If you are more partial to Prada than park lands, head to the enchanting village area to prowl the designer shops and eateries.

Most delightful stay. Beautifully appointed and comfortable rooms. Staff is professional and grounds are an oasis. Enjoyed the restaurant and pool—great home base to see all the attractions of the area.

Came to Estancia La Jolla for a family wedding. This place is beautiful and spread out over nine acres. Our room is overlooking the garden area where the wedding was held. The food was delicious and the staff are awesome. I definitely recommend this place.

Amazing. That's probably the best word I can use. I've lived in San Diego on/off for 12 years now, and whenever the occasion arises, I spend time at Estancia to relax and recharge. The grounds are among the most beautiful in the county. I understand some folks are not keen on the noise, but it's never gotten to me. In fact, can't say I've really ever noticed it. Read a few other reviews that noted a mold smell. Not sure about that. I've stayed on all 3 floors in rooms overlooking the pool (third floor, my absolute favorites), 3/2nd floors overlooking the main or smaller courtyards, 2nd best), and ground floor with small verandas. If you have one of these, the rooms on the back overlooking the grassy areas are beautiful. The "smell" could be from the 200 different plants they have on the property, and the need to keep them well maintained so their full beauty is always on display. I've recommended Estancia to everyone, and never had a negative word otherwise. My recommendation - stop looking and BOOK!

The Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa was a true delight. It is a great location to all San Diego and the surrounding area has to offer. The enjoyment of our stay at the hotel was possible due to the friendly and helpful demeanor of its employees.

Stayed here recently as part of a road trip in California. The location itself is luxurious, but in keeping with a previous experience at Meritage resorts, it was soon apparent that there are additional costs to consider. There is a nightly resort fee of $25 to be paid (which includes a "complimentary" bottle of wine) and a fee for parking of $25 per night, so that there is an additional nightly charge of $50-00-it soon mounts up! I was also amazed and frustrated by that fact that complimentary coffee is served every morning in the hotel lobby, but that this finishes at 06-30-this seems like a token gesture at best and ensuring the most vacationing guests do not get to take advantage of this. In a similar way, it was not possible to use the poolside cabanas without speaking to reception first-again this incurred an additional charge. I was also disappointed by the food at the restaurant (Mustangs & Burros) which was of average quality at best. Indeed, food had to be sent back to the kitchen as it was at best luke warm. To sum up, we did not feel particularly welcome and felt more like money-making commodities than guests. I will not be financially supporting this hotel chain again.
