About the Hotel

Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.

Reviews for Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa

Chic and chill

We've gone twice for a grandparents/grandkid weekend. Both times were super. Great food, great pool, great decor, friendly staff. It's honestly five stars but for the fact that I wish there was something more within walking distance. (The hangglider launch point nearby is pretty cool though!)

Costs doesn’t match cleanliness

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Costs doesn’t match cleanliness. Bathtub faucet kept falling off and sheets were dirty. Booked this hotel to use credit card perks (room upgrade, late check out) and none were given even when they were pretty empty. Walls are super thin and heard every guest and staff come in and out of our building.

Perfect Stay

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect. Everything was smooth from check-in to check-out. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Great facilities, great staff, but overall cannot recommend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The room, facilities, and check-in experience were all excellent, and the staff was genuinely welcoming. The provided water bottles and fill-up stations around the property were also a nice accommodation. The room was clean, the halls had a welcoming fragrance, and the property was quiet. Room service was quick, and the in-room dining food quality was great — those were real highlights. Unfortunately, the experience took a downward turn after check-in. The Greenfinch bar was a disappointment — a $28 Old Fashioned made with a basic $25 bottle of rye, and disappointing flavor, left me feeling the pricing was grossly disconnected from the quality being offered. The most frustrating part of our stay, however, was the billing. Our final folio had two separate charges for our single breakfast, and the tip amounts were higher than what we recalled authorizing, which raises a serious concern about whether amounts were adjusted after the fact. Beyond the discrepancies themselves, the folio lacked meaningful transparency about how hotel credits and breakfast credits were applied, making it frustratingly difficult to verify the final charges. It was less about the money and more about poor transparency. Resolving this required 4+ phone calls, and even after all of that, we never received a folio that clearly and accurately reflected each charge and credit line by line. This level of opacity is either a systemic billing issue or, at worst, an intentional one — and I'd encourage the GM to treat this as a priority. An overhaul of how billing clarity and accuracy are presented to guests seems warranted. A full refund was ultimately offered, unprompted, after we departed, which I appreciate as a genuine gesture of goodwill—but it was not requested. But that goodwill couldn't fully offset the time spent trying to accurately resolve what was actually due for something that is very basic and straightforward. Show me the charges, apply the credits, and make it clear. As it stands, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends or colleagues due to these 2 negative experiences, despite the hotel having good bones for a great stay.
