Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa in La Jolla, California

Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.

This coastal hideaway is set on nearly ten tree-laden acres coupled with fragrant ground coverings such as rosemary and sage. The hotel houses a collection of freestanding Spanish buildings coupled with hidden courtyards and trailing pathways. Equestrian-style doors and sky-lit windows add a light and airy feeling to the plush guest rooms. Slip into the fitness room for an early morning workout, spend the afternoon draped across a massage table or do a little celebrating sideways at the hotel's very own wine bar. Dips in the cabana-flanked pool prove to be refreshing day or night. Venture off property to discover the pounding surf, verdant fairways, hidden hiking trails and protected wetlands. If you are more partial to Prada than park lands, head to the enchanting village area to prowl the designer shops and eateries.

We were very much looking forward to celebrate our anniversary here. We were disappointed by their inability to accommodate their surge of people. The pool area was small and all the seating was "reserved" by towels. When we asked about the cabanas , they tried to offer us a discount at a rate of $100 at 4 in the late afternoon. They could've positioned more seating to accommodate their guests. The gym was so small, there was no space to use their weights and yoga mats. No other relaxing areas in their entire property. If you're looking to "relax" with "amenities" don't stay here . You'll be very disappointed. There are other neighboring options.

Well let's start with the overprice dinner. Chili Relleno, yes it was crab and bay shrimp but no sides. Just came in a bowl all by its lonesome $34 is way overpriced. Kale salad substandard. Now onto the room. See picture attached my wife stepped on a carpet tack. In addition there was a complimentary bottle of Petite Sirah, but as soon as I uncorked the bottle and saw the cork I could see why they were trying to unload it. And to cap off our stay there was a landscaping team tearing up the lawn and when I say tearing up the lawn I mean full blown power tillers and a full landscaping team removing all the grass down to the soil. This started at 7:30am. This caused dust in the air and dirt and clumps of grass on the sidewalk that we had to walk through upon checkout. For a four star resort We were VERY disappointed to say the least. We learned a valuable lesson for the Torrey Pines resort!

Simply put, the service at this hotel is subpar. We had issues with room assignment and housekeeping and don't get me started on the service at Adobe restaurant. Service at the restaurant was among the worst I have experienced. Extremely slow or downright inattentive. The grounds and pool are quite nice and the shuttle driver, Larry, was awesome. Unfortunately this isn't enough to overcome the service issues. I would not stay again at half the price. Do not recommend.

Our experience at this hotel was excellent! We asked for a room next ti the pool and we were literally next to the marvelous pool and spa they have! The service is excellent! The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is big! It has bathrobes, and the toiletries are soo good! Cant wait to be there again!!!

I stayed here in July and thought the grounds were amazing along with the hotel but left a little disappointed. I found the staff to be quite cold. My room was located very far from reception and the view was undesirable. As for the room itself it was spacious and clean so I have no complaints there. The food was exceptional and I had pancakes for breakfast which were delicious. The pool area is amazing. Very tranquil which really let's you unwind. This hotel has idealistic grounds but a few cold staff members really spoiled the experience.
