Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa in La Jolla, California
Located in the charming community of La Jolla, just minutes from Torrey Pines Golf Course and 14 miles north of San Diego, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a stylish retreat reminiscent of an early California ranch estate. The property - listed on Condé Nast Traveler's coveted Gold List and Hot List - pays homage to its rich history by emulating and utilizing materials from the original 1880s equestrian compound. The business center resembles the original caretaker's cottage, the intimate hotel lobby was created from the old farmhouse, and Mustangs & Burros, the hotel's rustic rancho-style bar, was inspired by the tack room. Even the restaurants reflect the old spirit in their design, menu concepts and gracious service.
This coastal hideaway is set on nearly ten tree-laden acres coupled with fragrant ground coverings such as rosemary and sage. The hotel houses a collection of freestanding Spanish buildings coupled with hidden courtyards and trailing pathways. Equestrian-style doors and sky-lit windows add a light and airy feeling to the plush guest rooms. Slip into the fitness room for an early morning workout, spend the afternoon draped across a massage table or do a little celebrating sideways at the hotel's very own wine bar. Dips in the cabana-flanked pool prove to be refreshing day or night. Venture off property to discover the pounding surf, verdant fairways, hidden hiking trails and protected wetlands. If you are more partial to Prada than park lands, head to the enchanting village area to prowl the designer shops and eateries.

Reviews for Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa
Went there with the wife for a one night getaway. The hotel is nice enough but the service is suspect. Waited a good 30 minutes poolside to only have waiter tell me he'd be back in 5 mins. Waiter brought me half my order. Food was good though. Spa front desk was a mess. Unorganized and not that helpful. I did like the Mustangs restaurant. Good food, margaritas, etc outside in front of a big fireplace. Breakfast was decent but overpriced which you expect. Last kicker was parking is $30/nite. My final bill from 2pm to 10 am the next day was $1200 all in with 1 massage each. You make the call

This is a review for the day spa only - have no clue about hotel or any other facilities. I have visited the spa on three separate occasions now and love it. While the spa area can get a little over crowded (particularly the outside, private area), the treatments are truly amazing and the staff is experienced and well worth the price. The facilities are very comfortable, maybe getting a little tired and can be slightly spruced up but in general, can highly recommend the spa as a great place for massages, facials and any other treatment.

This is supposed to be a luxury place. Check in lines took about 40 minutes to get checked in. I went back to the lobby desk the next day to find out about check out times. That took another 15 minutes. They definitely need more staff at the front desk. They will add fees for everything. eg., one hour delay upon departure $20, two hours $50, Three is $100. Food is very expensive here. Coffee and bagel almost $10. Bottled water in the room $7 a bottle. Resort fee $50/day, parking $30/day. etc., etc. Gardens are beautiful. Pool and hot tub are nice.

Great place with beautiful grounds. Rooms were nice and updated and outdoor bar was great. Would recommend. The only negative was basic omelet in the morning with no add ons or even coffee was $35. Come on, that's crazy! The plants all over were gorgeous!

The Estancia La Jolla is a beautiful property, and it was our first and probably last time there. We were there for my fiance's birthday, so in booking the room on the phone I specifically asked for a room with a nice view and outside sitting area, and also flowers to be in the room. They got the flowers right, they were lovely and just what I asked for, but the "patio" I had asked about was about 3ft square and just the entrance to our room on the ground floor. Our room was the only one with no chair outside of it. I asked 3 times during our stay for chairs to be placed outside the room, and despite the enthusiastic "of course, right away" I always was told, never got them. There are 3 restaurants to choose from, we had breakfast at the Adobe - for the hype and the price very disappointing. Mustangs and Burros was ok for dinner, nice outside seating. The Trinitas Wine Bar was my favorite. Friday the 12th when we were there we decided to get our car and go to the Birch Aquarium (1.8 miles away) and into La Jolla village. We walked outside to get our car from the valet and there was a luncheon at the La Jolla Ballroom on the property, people were arriving in droves and the valets were running. We are patient and waited for about 15 min without so much as a hello from anyone, and seeing how busy they were and having no idea where our car had been valet parked we decided to just walk and get some exercise. But that was annoying. The highlight of our stay was the Winemaker Dinner on Friday night. I had bought tickets for us to attend for my fiance's birthday and it was absolutely fabulous, very well done, the Trinitas Vineyards owner was there and the food and atmosphere were amazing, well worth the money and the trip. My overall feeling about the Estancia was that they are skating on their location and perhaps need to be more cognizant of what they actually offer and make sure they come through. Hotel guests should have priority over people coming in for a function.
