My hubby and I had brunch on the patio this morning and loved it! The ocean views were lovely, the place was super clean and they had ceiling heaters to keep the chilly ocean breeze at bay. The Lily coffee and the house cappuccino were served hot and were very flavorful. I had blueberry mascarpone cheese filled French toast with fresh berries, strawberry sauce and maple syrup. My hubby had strawberry pancakes with butter and maple syrup. We split a side of crispy smoked bacon. In addition to ice water, I had a glass of tomato juice to cut all of the sweetness. WOW! I would go back tomorrow if I did not have a plane to catch!

This is such a pretty hotel, built in 1926 with beautiful original tiles and well maintained. The service is so good and the welcome delightful, so nice to be greeted with a smile from the valets to the Front desk. Hope to visit again and stay longer than my brief visit.

La Jolla is a nice area. We had the misfortune to be recommended to La Valencia. Its old fashioned rather tacky and is in need of a full refurbishment. They cannot do anything with the outside due to what we know as a listed building. The staff are pleasant . There is only one lift in at the area where we were, so you share it with rubbish as well a guests. The food in the pool area was inedible. Soggy lettuce for the Caesars salad, and tiny thin carrots and coloured cauliflower for the crudite. Staff were very helpful at the pool. The beds at the pool were excellent . Probably the best thing about the hotel. It is not CHEAP. We reduced our stay by 2 days and are sorry we ever stayed there. Unfortunately there are no other places to stay but this is really a 3 star hotel.

We've stayed a few times at this hotel, staff is always amazing. But during our most recent trip, my daughter lost her phone somewhere in our room, and since we had already checked out we didn't have access to it. Kate and Kristina at the front desk went above and beyond to help us look for the phone, they offered us a room key so we could go look for it, re-assured me that housekeeping is really good at turning in lost items, they also made sure to get my information in case it came up. My daughter remembered where she left it after several attempts to find it, so Kristina personally escorted her back there to get it. Such awesome Customer Service. We had an awesome waiter in the pool area, his name was Kevin, very attentive and had so much patience with our kids! Our waitress in the lounge was Kira, she was extremely professional, she seated us promptly and took our drink order, service was very fast! I can't say enough about the staff here!!! The rooms are really nice and clean, beds are comfy, and grounds are beautiful!!!

Perfectly located in the middle of town and with a great view of the sea. This place has so much potential. The excellent new director of rooms "gets it", professional and friendly. This is one of these places, have seen many of them over the years, which have all the potential to be great hotels. They have lacked investment and become run down over the years. New owners are apparently changing all of this. Once renovated and a new approach to service this place is definitely a 5 star. Look forward coming back and giving them 5 stars.
