Wow. The perfect romantic getaway for my 10 year anniversary. My wife and I love California and have stayed in San Francisco,Monterey,Santa Barbara and all over Los Angeles and nothing compares to this boutique hotel in La Jolla. The room was magnificent with a view of the ocean and many windows. Big and comfortable. The staff was so nice and professional. We even received a bottle of champagne in our room and a lovely card. They go the extra mile that makes staying at a hotel truly a wonderful experience. The location is perfect and you get such a cool vibe of old romantic 1940's California. Being from Tennessee it is exactly what you are looking for in a Southern California hotel. 5 stars and I hope my wife and make it back soon.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights early May, 2017. It was peaceful, elegant, and just delightful. Flowers blooming everywhere. Beautiful pool. Close to the water. The staff was amazing! Wendy and Bob at the front desk took good care of us, as did numerous wait staff in their resturants, the bell men and the valet. We travel frequently and this is a charming hotel which we will return to many times!

My wife and I stay at La Valencia whenever we visit family in San Diego. It is one of our favorite hotels in the world, a classic that stays up to date, with a fabulous location on the ocean, inviting spaces, comfortable rooms, and the friendliest staff imaginable. Our Rhodesian Ridgeback Loki is always welcome. From sleeping with open windows to the sound of crashing waves to eating leisurely gourmet breakfasts on the balcony, we always feel like we on a special romantic getaway. This is Southern California at its best.

When we were shown our room, it was in an "annex" to the hotel. We booked in June and arrived in August, plenty of time for them to give us a room in a decent location, and we had not booked a cheapest room. Our window was right next to the sidewalk, which came right up to the building which was on a busy street. At night, in addition to traffic noise, there were "street people" right outside our window, talking and carrying on loudly. Early in the morning, delivery trucks, some with loud refrigeration units, parked on the street and unloaded goods for the hotel. No help from the front desk, which we had immediately contacted on being shown the room. Enjoyment of our vacation stay was severely diminished by this experience.

Hubby and I decided to treat ourselves to a weekend package at La Valencia that included 2 tickets to the Junior League Event. We inquired about our event tickets upon check in, and the front desk told us that our name was on the list but didn't have the tickets yet and asked us to check back the next morning (Sat/day of the event). When we checked back Sat morning, they still didn't have the tickets but asked for my cell and said they would call the moment they received them. Long story short, we never received a call, the front desk continued to defer us, and the event came and went. We chose La Valencia purely because of the weekend event package. When we checked out and were asked about our stay, we told the front desk about what happened. The woman lightly apologized but made no effort to address what happened. Really disappointing especially because we paid a small fortune to stay there.
