Reviews for Pantai Inn

Great property in a spectacular setting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 17 hours ago

This is a wonderful property in a beautiful and convenient location. With nearly 2,000 Tripadvisor reviews already published (as of November 2025), I am not sure how much I can add to what has already been said, but I'll mention a few things: 1. The property has character, with rooms in a number of separate small buildings. Common areas of the building feature nice decorative flourishes. The rooms are not "cookie cutter"; they all seem to have a separate layout and design and character. 2. The inn offers convenient on-site parking for $25 per night. If you have a car with you, this is a very nice option because parking in La Jolla is tough. I had no concerns about the security of my vehicle. 3. The inn checks all the boxes on hotel fundamentals: cleanliness, safety & security, comfort, everything in working order, capable and friendly staff, etc. 4. The complimentary breakfast is nice, with very pleasant indoor and outdoor seating options. It's not amazing, more like you might find at a mid-tier chain hotel, but it has a good variety of offerings that they appear to rotate each day. Examples include eggs, sausage links, breakfast potatoes, and breakfast sandwiches. There is also a self-service waffle maker and pre-made hot oatmeal. I liked that the orange juice came not from a dispenser, but from individual sealed containers. 5. I liked the complimentary beverages in the lobby, including sodas. I've always thought that those of us who prefer diet soda as our source of caffeine rather than coffee don't get a fair shake, so it was so refreshing to see complimentary cans of Diet Coke. The fruit-infused water was magnificent. 6. You could not ask for a better location . . . right across the street from Shell Beach and a 2-minute walk from La Jolla cove. 7. The outdoor rooftop sitting area, which includes a gas firepit that guests can turn on, and comfy furniture, is a splendid feature. 8. The hotel is within easy walking distance of many, many shops and restaurants and cafes. You can easily have a multiday vacation within La Jolla without a car. In fact, if you will not be exploring farther afield in the greater San Diego area, I'd recommend not bringing a car or renting a car. There are only a couple of minor drawbacks, which I present mainly because no review should imply perfection: 1. The bathroom and shower were a bit cramped. I suspect that the property had a life prior to being a hotel and that it had to be transformed into a hotel, requiring some creative configurations and irregular spaces. So while the bathroom is small, it is part of the character. 2. As someone committed to an exercise regimen, I would have liked to see a fitness center or gym, though I recognize that for a smaller property on expensive real estate, reallocating square footage for this purpose may not be economically viable. A guy at the front desk said something about the inn working on developing some sort of agreement with an area gym by which hotel guests could use it; I hope they are able to make that a reality. For now, guests can enjoy going for a run up and down the coast, though I'd recommend doing that in the early morning before the waterfront sidewalks and paths get crowded. 3. Pantai Inn has a $25 per night "resort charge". I just really hate "resort charges". They seem gimmicky and sly and beneath the dignity of such an otherwise excellent property. Sheesh, just add $25 to the room rate! My travel companion and I stayed in room 222, a single King room, which I highly recommend. It features a balcony overlooking the ocean. If I were to return to La Jolla, Pantai Inn would definitely be high in the consideration set.

Our new go-to hotel

Great location about half way between Children’s Cove and the sea lions and birds at La Jolla Cove. Huge, roomy accommodations with everything you could want. We loved the full size kitchen and gas fireplace. The lobby has complementary infused water, bottled water, soda, and cookies. Beautiful ocean views, excellent hot breakfasts every day, with indoor and outdoor seating, and the atmosphere was amazing. The staff is courteous and attentive. We felt like royalty. Our whole family can’t wait to come again.

We arrived at the Pantai Inn around 11:30 in the morning. The receptionist is very friendly welcome us for celebrating our anniversary. Our room was ready so we could get in right away. We had a room with a balcony and view of the ocean, which was absolutely beautiful, very clean. The kitchen area had stove top, sink, dishes, fridge and microwave. TV in living area and bedroom. The reception area has coffee, tea, water and sodas, all complimentary. You can also purchase wine and beers. A full breakfast was served every morning between 7:30 and 10:00am. We truly enjoyed our stay here. We walked the shore line which is a 2 minute walk from the Inn where you can see the Seals and Pelicans amazing.

We had a great visit at the Pantai Inn.

The pantai Inn was very clean and the included breakfasts were amazing. We had a view of the ocean right across the street from our suite. The best part was the staff which welcomed us like family. Doria was so friendly and made us the best breakfast you could imagine. She made our experience so enjoyable.

“We stayed in room 208 for five nights. A beautiful spot looking across Coast Blvd to the Pacific. Private deck, full kitchen and nice small bedroom. The giant TV was a nice bonus for March Madness. Beautiful courtyard and grounds. Very kind staff. Always coffee and tea in the lobby. Fresh fruits, cereal and bagels for breakfast. Walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. There was a mix-up upon check in - we booked full ocean view suite thru LuxuryLink and we were originally shown to a room with no view. Quickly remedied, but since there is only one room like 208 be sure you've confirmed it if that's the room you desire. This is called a luxury property by some - it's not actually luxury if you're thinking Waldorf or Leading Hotels of the World. But it is wonderfully peaceful and beautiful. The adornments in suite weren't my taste (fake flowers, bamboo furniture) but that's v. subjective. Would highly recommend for a relaxing getaway."
