Pantai Inn in La Jolla, California
When you are looking for an otherworldly escape, but are limited to trips not requiring miles of over-ocean travel, let the brand new Pantai Inn welcome you to a different side of San Diego. Modeled and styled completely to emulate a Balinese resort - from its Indonesian décor and tranquil guest rooms, to the personalized service fit for royalty - this boutique getaway is genuinely distinctive. The inn's fully restored bungalows, townhouses, and cottages are perched along the northern coast of San Diego, in the charming town of La Jolla, where the best of Southern California is within easy reach. The inn overlooks the glittering Pacific, so settle in to your spacious suite for a kicked back California experience. Separate dining areas and living rooms provide ample room to relax, and full kitchens offer convenience for stays short or long. Island essence will definitely find you in the Balinese tiled bathrooms, where hand-hammered copper sinks and soothing rain showers turn ordinary to exceptional. With these thoughtful details and more, you will find Pantai Inn to be wellworthy of its harmonious heralding.
Start your day with a stroll along the cliffside walking paths, breathing the ocean air and preparing yourself for a day of adventuring through the La Jolla and San Diego region. Minutes from the hotel, there are artful boutiques and renowned gourmet restaurants, or you can venture the 20-minute drive to San Diego proper. Whether you are instinctively animal-inclined or not, a visit to the world-famous San Diego Zoo is something everyone will enjoy, as you meander its scenic paths and cool foliage exploring the beautifully created exhibits. The adjacent Balboa Park is a huge area that encompasses many museums and gardens, and be sure to check out the Gaslamp Quarter for a vibrant scene both day and night. Back in the car, cross the bridge to Coronado Island and rent bicycles for the day, or head straight to any of the coastline's numerous beaches to simply relax in the sun. With so much to see, and such a charming place to stay, Pantai Inn brings the wonderment of Indonesian isles to your Southern California vacation.

Reviews for Pantai Inn
We visit La Jolla several times a year from Phoenix, and were eager to try this elegant smaller hotel. From the moment we arrived we were delighted with the Pantai Inn's classy elegance. Our room, #208, which we'd chosen several months before on a previous LJ visit, faced the ocean and had a private balcony. It effectively was a one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, king bed, beautifully furnished living room, and bathroom with very large shower. Both bedroom and living room had big flat-screen TVs. Among the most-appreciated touches was a full breakfast buffet with a menu that changes daily. Each day the maids post a charming hand-colored menu on the refrigerator. Thursday's featured scrambled eggs, chicken vegetable sausage, cheesy potato casserole, caprese crostini and of course toast, bagels, fresh fruit. Other mornings we were treated to turkey apple hash, rosemary buttermilk squares, lemon ricotta pancakes and Mediterranean baked egg cups, all scrumptious. This is an older property that has been meticulously restored and refurbished, but has sacrificed none of its charm to modernity. It is marvelously comfortable, built into the hillside that rises from the coastline. Besides the breakfast that's included, parking (always a huge problem in LJ) is included in the room rate. We've stayed at just about every place there is to stay in LJ, and this is our new favorite.

Well, we were meant to fly from Atlanta to Miami (Keys) but Hurricane Irma had other ideas. At very short notice had to fly somewhere else and chose San Diego, then had to arrange a hotel quickly. Pantai looked good and I booked it. Soon after it, I noticed that it has no bar and no pool (which ideally we would have liked). However, we really didn't need to worry. The outside space is a little limited, but what they do have they absolutely make the best of. Reviews are funny really, but now have become all part of staying in hotels these days. It leaves little to be surprised about and I booked in haste. This gave us lots of surprises and if you want to be pleasantly surprised, then read my review title, book it and be delighted. However, if you do want the detail here it is. Property: A pleasingly random collection of buildings (no lift) with some parking, all rooms have an outside door, some with balconies and sea views. Beautifully decorated throughout. Some reviews, I read, mentioned no pets but this must have changed as I saw 2 dogs, at least. Room 111 (our room): Gorgeous ground floor room at the front of the property with 2 parking spaces and sea views. An open plan suite really, with 2 sofas, bistro table, kitchens, fridge, microwave etc. 2 huge flat TVs a gas fire and beautiful showroom. Fridge is stocked with complimentary soft drinks and water. Chargeable beer and wine are also offered. Also a basket of complimentary snack is provided every day and we had fresh patisserie cakes on arrival. Bed turned down in the evening with Chocolates Outside space: There's a small artificial grass lawn with chairs to chill on facing the ocean, there's a patio area with tables and easy chairs for breakfast and relaxing and there's a fire pit which is great for chilling (warming :) ) in the evening and catching up. Lobby: A relaxed informal area, with permanently fresh coffee and different flavoured, infused water each day as well as freshly homemade cookies in the afternoon. Staff: Well, I've stayed in many hotels over the years and I can't think of anywhere that were quite so helpful, friendly, courteous. All without be over familiar. Prefect balance. Breakfast: Every day a hand written menu of the delicious and varying breakfast items for tomorrow. The previously mentioned outside sitting (only three tables) and addition seating inside. Nearby: Just across the road from the ocean and the small coves. Shops and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Any down sides??? Not really. Room wasn't made up when we returned at 4-ish one day and then the turn-down service came at 4.30, which seemed a little odd. Also the kitchens sink plug was grubby. Told you there wasn't much :) Beautiful place, beautiful rooms, beautiful staff, would stay nowhere else if we were in La Jolla again and would highly recommend.

We couldn’t recommend this hotel more. Firstly, the location is prefect. It is right on the beach/coast line and the views are spectacular. It is really special walking along the coast, taking in the views and seeing the countless sea lions and seals sunbathing on the beaches. It is also a two minute walk from Prospect St where there are lots of shops and restaurants. I highly recommend eating at Jukes. The hotel itself is really lovely and Bali themed. We found the hotel to be really clean and the rooms are ideal and very spacious. The room we were in had an amazing view of the ocean. The rooms come with breakfast included and free parking. The breakfast was really good with lots of options but note that it is a buffet and not table service. The hotel also has a fire pit at night which is really romantic and a seating area with a view of the sea. One of the best parts about the hotel is the staff. We had the joy of meeting Chelsey and Grey, both really lovely girls and truly made mine and my fiancé’s stay perfect. Thank you both so much and we look forward to coming back and staying again. I highly recommend the Pantai Inn. The location couldn't be better, right across from the ocean and with restaurants and shops nearby. The rooms are really like individual apartments with a separate entry, kitchen, and sitting area with two large flat screen televisions and see through fireplace. We had our own balcony with ocean view. A full breakfast is included with indoor or outdoor seating. A fire pit is lit at night. As a small inn, it was peaceful and quiet. The manager is on site and the staff went out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. We will return.

I now understand all the positive reviews. This is a special place in a perfect location. We wish our stay had been longer but will definitely go back! Shout out to Mike for locating an item we left behind and going out of his way to get it to us! Amazing!
