Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach, California

Orange County's well-bred Laguna Beach is the backdrop to Surf & Sand Resort, which feels secluded despite its central location. The Pacific Ocean glimmers in newly renovated rooms and suites – a palate of cool whites, beige and aquamarine blends with the view seen through floor-to-ceiling windows. Chic cabanas flank a beachside infinity pool, and original artwork supports Laguna’s thriving art community.

Recline under a goose down comforter as dawn breaks over the ocean. Take a morning stroll to town – stop for coffee at a sidewalk café and browse the artwork on Gallery Row. Revive with a superfruit martini made with açai spirits and blueberry vodka on an oceanfront patio with glass walls. Finish the evening with Carlsbad black mussels in a vin jaune broth.

Surf and Sand Hotel is located right on the beach in Laguna. It's a 2 mile (approx) walk to the main village. The hotel has a tower (I stayed in room 828), and also offers suites, larger units, and another small beachfront half tower. The hotel itself is a bit older looking, but was well kept. Room was clean, nicely decorated. Bathroom was not as large as the newer hotels, but was spacious enough for us. As far as getting around the property, it can be cumbersome. The tower has two elevators (slow). One elevator was inoperable when I was there. This made moving around slower. We had lunch at the bar before we checked in. Sitting at the bar is like sitting directly on the water. Great view. You can eat from the restaurant menu or the bar menu, which is a nice option. The service was a bit slow in the bar, but it was such a nice view I didn't mind. Parking - valet is your only option. Space is limited. $35 per day. Resort fee $20.00 - not sure what you get for this. WiFi and a paper, I guess. There was a surcharge on the bill in the bar. Must have been 2-3%. Not sure why they charge this. Seemed like gouging, even though it was minimal. There are multiple restaurants, art galleries, and clothing shops just outside the hotel and within walking distance. I don't think you can get much better location than this hotel if you want to be on the beach. It's not a "resort" like you might think. It has a pool, spa, etc. But it is a smaller property. Go here for the view.

I cannot say enough positive things about the Surf and Sand. There is no hotel I have ever stayed at that has the customer service this hotel provides. If you need anything the staff will take care of it for you. I have stayed at the Surf and Sand at least once a year for the past eight years and it always feels like home. It is upscale, yet comfortable. The view from any room will take your breath away. If the hotel is booked, you still need to come have a drink at Splashes bar and watch the sunset. You won't be disappointed.

the property and the people who manage it was truly wonderful. it was my wifes birthday celebration, and almost everyone with whom we came in contact took a moment to wish her happy birthday. the room was exactly as advertised. we have nothing but praise.

My wife and I love going to this property for over 20 years. Beautiful location, great staff, very clean. Close to downtown Laguna. But far enough away to avoid some of the congestion during the busy summers.

Great location at the beach that allows you to stay at the resort for a total getaway or wander through Laguna Beach. The location is a short drive from all the Southern California attractions and a destination itself. The ocean is right out every room and falling asleep to ocean sounds has never been more satisfying.
