Surf & Sand Laguna Beach

We recently spent a night at Surf & Sand while visiting Laguna Beach and touring the property as a potential venue for our wedding. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning — there is something incredibly special about being right on the water, and it’s easy to understand why Surf & Sand is so highly regarded. What truly made our experience exceptional, however, were Ashley and Cole. Ashley approached us while we were having a cocktail and watching the sunset and genuinely took the time to check in on how our stay was going. Her warmth, attentiveness, and intuition were remarkable. After speaking with us, she immediately went above and beyond, returning shortly afterward with Cole so that he could personally connect with us as well. Cole could not have been more gracious. He took the time to listen, completely took ownership of our concerns, and handled everything with a level of professionalism, generosity, and genuine hospitality that is increasingly rare. Between Cole and Ashley, what could have simply been an ordinary stay became an experience we will remember for all the right reasons. The most impressive part was how sincerely both of them seemed to care that we left feeling excited about Surf & Sand. Their service completely solidified our confidence in the property — so much so that after touring several venues, we have decided that Surf & Sand is where we would love to have our wedding. A beautiful property can certainly bring people through the doors, but it is people like Ashley and Cole who make guests want to return. We will absolutely be back, and we feel incredibly fortunate knowing that this level of hospitality is behind the hotel we are choosing for such an important moment in our lives. We just arrived at the Surf and Sand Laguna Beach and it is awesome. Their marketing videos show the hotel as it truly is. More importantly, the employees at the Bella Vista Terrace were extremely friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the hotel, Laguna Beach, and current events for the Labor Day weekend. Having a great hotel is nice, having great employees like Dana, Ashley, and Juliana is the icing on the cake. All were a pleasure to speak with and we appreciate their recommendations.

First, I would highly recommend bringing your own sodas, $11.00 a can for a Diet Coke. Seriously?? I found my way to the local grocery store, Ralph’s quickly. What I reluctantly paid for one, I got a 12 pack. This is what truly made me never want to stay and Sand and Surf ever again. I day after I checked out I reviewed my Credit Card Statement. Hmmm… An additional charge. I had settled up my bill at time of checkout. I called to inquire, after a long pause, “You were charged for two beers from the mini bar?” Excuse me, I don’t drink. I took out the cans of beer, sparkling water and whatever else was in there to make room for my”affordable” sodas. There was one empty slot in the fridge, pardon me, I drank one silly Pip Soda. After another long pause, “We’ll credit you back on your credit card.” They honored that. So, beware of incredibly expensive soft drinks and hold the front desk accountable of what you did and did not drink. Also, $65.00 a day resort fee, for what. You can go to the pool and maybe get a chair. Very overbooked. I never enjoyed the pool because there never was accessibility to one. Also, if you want sand, forget it.

I am a huge fan of Surf and Sand Laguna Beach. If you are an ocean lover you cannot get much closer to the beach. The sounds of the waves are mesmerizing. The views are majestic, atmosphere, cleanliness, and service are beyond amazing. Probably one of the best beach hotels in California. I cannot think of any negatives.
