Beautiful
Beautiful hotel right on the beach with most of the rooms directly on the beach and overlooking the ocean. Staff is generally friendly and helpful; no-one had any attitude and they seem eager to help when we were last at the hotel. My only two minor complaint is the pool area chaise lounges go quickly, so if you want to secure one, you have to be out early and stake your claim or else you're just out of luck.

My husband and I stayed at Surf & Sand Resort Laguna Beach this past weekend after I grew up taking family trips to this beautiful town growing up. The location is a little removed from the busiest beach areas, which we actually liked, and the rooms have been nicely updated. We were a little disappointed that there wasn’t a bellman available to help us. We’re used to a more personal greeting from the bellman who are the first people you meet when you arrive and gives the hotel a chance to start your experience on a positive welcoming note. The room had some great tech features, but we ran into a few issues like rough/sandpaper sheets, inconsistent AC, uncomfortable pillows, and quite a bit of noise from PCH (like being front row at the Indy500), barking dogs in the middle of the night, hallway light coming into the room, and loud people on the beach. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d definitely recommend asking for a quieter room or maybe looking at a hotel farther from PCH. We were hoping to be “wow’d” like the staff mentioned when we booked, but unfortunately it just didn’t quite feel like a wow experience for us, and we checked a day early.

Best ocean front views in OC
I can’t recommend this hotel enough! From the moment we walked into our ocean front corner room and the automatic blinds rose up as we entered the room, we knew this place was special. We literally felt like we were floating over the water. The service from each person we interacted with was top notch. We did not get an opportunity to use the spa this time but we will be back for that!

We spent 5 luxurious nights at the Surf & Sand hotel in Laguna Beach, CA, the week of August 14th, 2004. Upon arrival at our oceanfront room, we received chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. A full breakfast in Splashes restaurant included anything we wanted on the menu each day. We had a wonderful dinner including a bottle of wine, and even the hotel taxes and parking each day was included. It was a really great vacation.
