Surf & Sand Laguna Beach

We decided to spend the weekend with my family at Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach. At first glance it looks like a beautiful hotel with an incredible ocean view, which is why we chose it. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. We paid about $1,000 per night and planned a nice evening: dinner on the balcony while watching the sunset. That was the whole idea of the trip. But things started going wrong right away. Check-in is supposed to be at 4 PM, yet we were told the room wasn’t ready and had to wait almost two hours. I went to the front desk multiple times, and at one point the receptionist started trying to convince us to take a room with two queen beds even though we had specifically booked a king bed. I had to repeat several times that our reservation was for a king before they finally gave us the correct room. They mentioned some kind of compensation — I believe around $300 (or maybe $100, it wasn’t very clear) — and we’re still waiting to see when the incorrectly charged minibar fees will be refunded. The next day I had to call and explain that we had used much less from the minibar than what they charged us for. Because we got into the room late, we ordered dinner. The food arrived on time, which I appreciate, but they forgot the main dish and even the second soda. So we had to wait again. In the end, we missed the sunset and didn’t even have the full dinner we ordered — which was the whole reason we wanted the balcony in the first place. That said, I’m not going to give the lowest possible rating. The location and ocean views are beautiful, and the property itself has a lot of potential. I’ll probably come back again with my wife, and if the service improves, I’ll gladly delete this review and write a much better one.

Great location on the beach. Luxurious room with fantastic ocean views. Excellent and friendly service throughout. Lovely pool area provided spacious comfort. Dinner was exceptional.

Where else in calif can you can stay on the beach, with waves breaking below you having and full 180 degree view from the South, Catalina Island to the Palace Verde’s Coast. The price price given super reasonable including $100 towards purchase and included parking and all taxes and resort fee. Service was phenomenal. This is Orange country’s secret get-a-way
