Reviews for PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn
The hotel is truly in the best location--with all the amenities you can want. It's intimate with cozy feel, a nice bar and restaurant--gym and hot tub. Unfortunately, it's a little tired and worn (hence the makeover next year) and not quite worth $900 for the 2 night/weekend. I have a house in the area that's under renovation, so I'm trying out all the local hotels. While the hotel is perfect for skiers, I am always surprised by the bad staff--especially in the restaurant and bar. The bar is a great place to gather for dinner or after dinner and meet up with friends. Last week, I ate there 3x, both alone and with friends. The staff is either overly friendly or rude, unaware and doesn't care. The waiters all congregate at the end of the bar and chat --trying to get their attention isn't easy and there is usually a lot of attitude. Given my almost local status, its hard to openly complain. Eating there at the beginning of the season, 2 of the 3 dinners were sent back, it's now the end of the season, service hasn't gotten better, maybe worse.

This hotel feels like going to your own ski house. Accommodating, welcoming, easy to access, delicious unpretentious food and comfortable unassuming rooms. It could use the planned update, but it is worth it just the way it is with the proximity and ease and great service.
It was my Son’s wedding. Everything was held at hotel and and was perfect. The location of the hotel and the amenities were all wonderful. The staff could not have been nicer and helpful and happy. Can’t wait to come stay for family vacation next time.
Great location across the street from the tram station at Alpine Village. With the exception of a few waitresses, PlumJack's staff is what takes it from a slightly tired hotel (fraying carpets, outdated furniture, threadbare blankets and sheets) to a luxury choice at Squaw. The front desk is enthusiastic and pleasant, offering to help with parking (even digging out our car after a 3-day snowstorm) and valeting our skis. The bar/lounge area is quite a scene, and it was tough to get a table at prime times (anytime between 6pm-9pm). However, the food is quite good. The food at the restaurant is great as well, though I wish there was an option in between the two in terms of atmosphere and price. The buffet breakfast served in the lounge each morning was a highlight -- kids loved the pancakes, waffles, and even red velvet pancakes one morning, in addition to fruit loops! Free-range eggs, almond milk, etc. catered to the Bay Area audience. They plan on razing the existing hotel and building a larger hotel/residences in 2019, and judging from the outdated carpets and thin walls, its about time. But I hope they retain the pleasant and helpful staff culture.
