Sublime Samana in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

Sublime Samana, on the Dominican Republic’s Samana Peninsula is a tropical paradise not known by many, which preserves its existence as an unspoiled treasure. Starfish mating near black coral in the crystal-clear water. Ocean breezes rustle palm trees expertly landscaped throughout the grounds. Elegant white linen cabanas dot the lawn. An open layout invites sunbeams and breezes into the hotel, suites and restaurants, ensuring a natural, beachside vibe every moment. Menus here focus on fish – like the red snapper of Samana – caught just off the beach.

Stumble out of your bed onto your private balcony for fresh breakfast delivered by the friendly staff. Head right out onto the sand with book, sunglasses and towel in hand – no need to do a thing aside from take in the pristine beach and waters. Navigate to the Beachside Grill for lunch, or stay put for the bar’s “cocos frios.” Taste a fresh mango daiquiri. After lunch, let the resort arrange a whale-watching excursion. Upon your return to the shore, motivate into Las Terrenas, the nearby town where the Pueblo de los Pescadores (Fishermen’s Village) offers a collection of open-air seafood restaurants – like Comedor los Chicos, which doesn’t have a phone but does have fish prepared the local way, “con coco,” or with tomato, garlic and coconut milk.

We had a wonderful 5 night stay at Sublime Samana. A family vacation that made treasured memories. Stayed in one of the 3 bedroom casitas near the beach. The casita was spacious stylish and comfortable, equipped kitchen, great room service, lovely terrace overlooking the channel pools and the beach, close to the beachside restaurant. Prior reviews did not give kudos to food, but we did not have that experience. We found the casual food well prepared and delicious, We ate out in town several nights, but enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the hotel on our final evening. Absolutely delicious, creative, fresh, and great service. We had breakfast only in the hotel side restaurant, but breakfast was made to order and delicious. Staff was very helpful. Manager Aida Cabrera was hands on in making sure we received great service. We truly enjoyed our visits to Sublime Samana.

Absolutely beautiful physical plant. The rooms are a combination of 2 bedroom apartments in the main hotel and architecturely impressive casitas which are a mix or 2 and 3 bedrooms. The rooms are large and comfortably appointed and make a great family base (we had 5 people comfortably in a 2 bedroom). The hotel is beachfront with a great beach area, water sports and a beach front restaurant. The foods good, not gourmet but is flexible enough that it's good for everything from a casual beach lunch to a more formal dinner. Service is generally friendly and accommodating but not quite at the level of the physical plant. English is in pretty short supply among the staff so there can be misunderstandings. Service happens on island time (without any sense of urgency). Towels on the beach tend to be in short supply after about noon and are impossible to find after the frequent rainstorms. The internet is pretty close to non existent. Overall thought the hotel was a great experience. Great value for money. We will definitely try to be back.

The Sublime Samana is located outside of the town of Las Terrenas by about 10 minutes. It is a new hotel that has very large hotel rooms, as well as apartments and villas that can be rented. The rooms are large suites that are very nicely appointed. Although the complex is located on the beach, the rooms do not have oceanfront views. The beach was very nice ... although, when we were there, the sand fleas were a menace and we got lots of bites. The staff was wonderful. Overall a very nice experience.

My best friend of 20 years and I chose this hotel for a week getaway. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with an extremely large deck with a hot tub. Each room had it's own bathroom separated by the living room and full size kitchen with every appliance you need. After a long flight, it was blissful. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of every day. Our hot tub never worked which wasn't a big deal to me but my friend would've liked to have used it. For whatever reason it just couldn't be fixed but they were very apologetic, gave us a free massage at their spa and our last dinner there was lobster and it ended up to be free. I miss the island and I miss Sublime Samana, can't wait to stay there again!
