So disappointed

This was supposed to be a special event, we were asked this and I told them my husband was 80 while visiting, on arrival we were asked for a £100 deposit in case of accidents ! our room details had gone missing then the young lady escorted us to our room in the attic after climbing 60 stairs and really struggling we were told there was lift but never shown where it was and there were no notices anywhere where anything was, I looked on several occasions for the swimming pool but never found it and the bed was so hard pillows non existent we both came home one day early after paying over £500, the meals were good if not lengthy in receiving them about 90mins from start to finish and we had 2halves of larger and had to pay £32, on leaving were told we had another night but never asked why we were leaving early , by then I was to annoyed and upset to go through the details, I have emailed the hotel but have never received an answer as yet. It is a beautiful place all be it very ostentatious , it needs some information in the rooms as to where to find things etc and instruction on how to work the lights

Beautiful hotel and gardens, but stiff and distant service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

Firstly, this hotel is absolutely stunning, I was blessed with gorgeous weather so spent the majority of my time in the gardens. My room was lovely with a huge bed and housekeeping kept it really clean! Food was ok but restaurant very overpriced and with a stiff atmosphere. Eat at the all day dining bar and get outside if you can, excellent food and less awkward! Cooked breakfast was delicious, but it was hit and miss if the fruit or pastries were going to be available. There is very little information available about the hotel and area. I expected a booklet or info sheet in my room with details for breakfast, check out, wifi, food options etc but no info - not sure if this was just a mistake with my room. It’s such a beautiful historic building with lots of rooms to explore downstairs, but no info about what they were used for or who owned the house historically etc. It might be a nice idea to put some fact sheets about the history of the hotel? I asked a couple of people for maps as I had been interested in exploring the 500 acres, but was just pointed to a small map on the reception desk and told most the land was private but just to follow the gravel paths. Definitely not 500 acres available to explore, but the gardens are beautiful and very well kept. There isn’t much atmosphere here, it felt like they just wanted dinners and drinks finished and everyone back up to our rooms. Not many people sat around, I was never asked if I wanted a drink or how I was, how the trip was etc. I booked a taxi last night with receptionist, she called me quickly in my room to tell me it was sorted. Unfortunately the taxi didn’t show up this morning, which I don’t blame them for at all. However I was then just handed a list of numbers and 3 members of staff just watched as I kept calling 6 or 7 companies and got increasingly more emotional and anxious about my train. No one asked if they could call anyone, or offer me a seat while I waited, or a glass of water. They saw me stand outside with my bag, clearly trying not to cry for half an hour waiting for a cab and no one said anything or offered any service. Overall, a beautiful hotel but they need to work on service. I wouldn’t recommend for other solo travellers, as there is a stiff atmosphere, and the team were polite but not friendly (Irish blonde girl last night the exception, was nice to have a smile and bit of a joke) I am a young female who travels alone a lot, so really appreciate a hotel who make me feel safe and comfortable, and unfortunately this isn’t it.

Nice hotel, very disappointing evening meal.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Lovely hotel but the restaurant had a very limited menu choice and the meal we had was very poor. The steak was undercooked and had absolutely no taste. £8 supplement for 3 small broccoli strands. Breakfast was good but around £170 for a two course dinner for two was way overpriced.

Appalling Waitress!!

Where do I start! There was a 10k charity run at Stapleford park hotel which my daughter and grandaughter had raised a considerable amount for and were participating in the run, my daughters friend booked into Stapleford Park the evening before and we met for food, we ordered wine drinks for the children and food for us all, service was terrible extremely slow the children were hungry tired and causing a fuss, when the food arrived most of it was inedible, my granddaughters fish goujons were like cardboard the manager Jeremy was lovely and took them straight away, my daughter ordered super salad with grilled chicken the salad came followed by the chicken 45minutes later, everyone was still hungry and the children were irritable so my daughter said she would take them for pizza and back home, I ordered to the bill and was shocked that not only did they charge us for food that was disgusting they added nearly £34 service charge, the manager took the service charge off and the food that wasn’t eat, in all honesty the full lot should have been taken off as a courtesy, my daughter left with and I ordered two more glasses of wine we waited 30 minutes I then went to the bar where the bar manager Yelana said to me you are not allowed any drink any more and we are not serving you, obviously over me not paying the service charge, she then proceeded to get personal and said You are a drunk! I then asked for the hotel manager and was ignored by this woman, the manager came and served us the wine we requested, I have travelled the world as my daughter is a recording artist I have eaten in the best of places as you can see by my reviews never have I been treated so badly or spoken to so disgusting, I am a woman nearly 60 yrs of age and I do not pay to be insulted, if I was drunk that was nothing to do with her, we were staying in the hotel sat at a table minding our own business on a bank holiday weekend donating to a charity even which by the way if we were drunks we wouldn’t be able to run 10k the waiter at the bar was a gentleman as was Jeremy and the other manager, The waitress Yelena was a disgrace and should not be working with the public in hospitality, I spent £100,000 in this hotel 13 years ago on my daughters wedding and little do they know that Yelena has just lost them a massive event coming from USA!! Go to Hambleton hall where the service food and ambience is first class..

Outdoor Pursuits

We had a fantastic stay at stapleford park. It felt very special, our room was beautiful clean and with a free standing bath. The food was delicious. The staff were all professional and friendly. Absolute highlight was the falconry and clay pigeon shooting with Simon and Gill at Rutland Outdoor Pursuits who come to the hotel. They were so lovely and we had a fantastic day. The activities offered was the reason for booking this hotel. There are so many spa hotels available.
