Blantyre in Lenox, Massachusetts

Built as a gift of love for a young wife, the grand estate Blantyre in picturesque Lenox, Massachusetts has retained its intense beauty and sense of romanticism since it was built. Lovingly and painstakingly restored in the early 1980's, this beautiful country house is now maintained as one of the finest hotels in the world. A retreat from the modern world, guests come to view the breath-taking fall foliage, to ice skate and snowshoe through private forests, or to swim, play a set of tennis, enjoy a cocktail over a game of croquet; in short, to live the country estate lifestyle. A spa and fitness center, first class wine cellar and gourmet restaurant are the crowning feathers in Blantyre's cap, and the reason that people come back again and again to celebrate the beauty of New England, and one man's timeless love.

On 117 acres of lawns and woodlands, guests can find peace in nature; and in sun filled rooms decorated in an eclectic mix of period pieces and treasured heirlooms. With fresh flowers, and sinfully soft sofas and chairs, guests can experience the charm and elegance of the gilded era. The Potting Shed Spa offers massage and body treatments, while a gym, four tennis courts, scenic trails for hiking or snowshoeing, a heated swimming pool and even a private ice skating rink, offer plenty of choice for outdoor activity. Dining is a special event at Blantyre, with tables set with sterling silver, fine china and crystal, and in the kitchen under the knowing eye of Chef Christopher Brooks the finest ingredients are used to create a memorable menu. Escape to a finer time, and enjoy the pleasures of a gilded era.

My husband and I stayed at the Blantyre over President's day weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The rooms were incredible, spacious, beautifully and uniquely decorated and it was as though we were staying in a Dowton Abbey suite. The dinner we had at the Blantyre was delicious and the service excellent. We got seated for cocktails in the drawing room first with a pianist entertaining. The hotel also had a special hot chocolate menu with all the fixings that we ordered via room service and enjoyed in front of our own fireplace. Most impressively though, was how committed the staff was to ensuring its guests' perfect stay. On our second night, we went to a dinner reservation at another hotel restaurant nearby. We waited 1 hour after our reservation time and still weren't seated, with no explanation. So we left without having dinner and returned to the Blantyre and asked if they could serve us food despite not having a reservation. They immediately sat us down near a fireplace in their cocktail room and brought us their more casual menu (dining room was fully booked) and served us another delicious meal very swiftly. To our surprise, the following morning when we checked out, we hadn't been charged for that dinner. We thought it was a mistake but they assured us it was intentional because they felt bad we had a terrible experience at the other hotel's restaurant (which is not affiliated to them at all). We were amazed and very grateful! Needless to say, we'll be coming back.

We spent a romantic weekend (away from the kids) at the Blantyre on the recommendation of a friend. We wanted to hike in the Berkshires and it seemed like a perfect base. From the minute we walked in, the whole staff made everything they could to make us feel home and welcome. They went above and beyond in so many ways: come for hiking and forgot your suit? They'll set up a choice of rooms with fine china and fresh cut flowers for you to have dinner in the hotel restaurant nonetheless. Mention you came to hike? They'll print out and guide you through several itineraries based on what you said you might like and what will you find on your bed after dinner, wrapped in a beautiful bow? A guide of hikes in the Berkshires. Happened to mention you loved the incredibly talented pianist who played when you had your cocktail by the fireplace? You'll find on your bed his latest CD wrapped in a bow on your bed the night after. I should also mention the surprise upgrade when we checked in. I also loved visiting their incredibly diverse and rich wine cellars (I am French and I left with my head in the stars, they have the most jaw dropping selection). The personnel was incredibly attentive and made our stay memorable. We realized we hadn't experienced such top class service in a long time: Four seasons and alike, come and stay here, these guys know how to do it. Will return any time.

Exceptional staff, house, food and surroundings. Ideal for anyone looking for high quality and friendly alternatives. Go for a run on the trials, take a massage and enjoy the devious food. Before bedtime take a glass while enjoying the pianist playing your favourite music in the sitting room.

I booked this hotel for the owner of our company for a get away and he has traveled to so many places! When he came back from his trip he said this was one of the BEST experience he has ever had! The service was so spectacular that he was in awe. He felt like he was home :) Thank you to the whole team!

My wife and I stayed at Blantyre as fall was coming to an end in 2016. It is a charming and relaxing place. As a bit of background, we got married at Shelburne Farms in Vermont and lived in London for five years so these type of country hotels are our things. Blantyre passed the bar and we would return. Though I don't find the exterior to be appealing, the common areas, rooms, grounds, and surroundings are wonderful. It's a very cozy place. There is always a fire ready in your room, there are tons of small, comfortable seating areas, and the staff is personable. We stayed in the blue room and were in love with the bathroom, which had one of my favorite shower heads of all time. This isn't exactly an estate, you can walk the whole perimeter pretty quickly, but it is secluded enough to be quiet. If you want the outdoors there are a plethora of nearby parks which the staff will gladly guide you to. Breakfast and drinks were excellent, though I found dinner to be a bit heavy and a little pricy for what it was. Having the private dining nooks is a nice touch though I'm not sure I would do it again given the breadth of good restaurants in the area. If you visit, I would try to book in the main house rather than the annex building, which lacks nearly all the charm of the original. While this does not hold a candle to the excellent country hotels in the U.K. or to Shelburne Farms, as a quick weekend away from Boston it is well worth the trip.
