Blantyre in Lenox, Massachusetts

Built as a gift of love for a young wife, the grand estate Blantyre in picturesque Lenox, Massachusetts has retained its intense beauty and sense of romanticism since it was built. Lovingly and painstakingly restored in the early 1980's, this beautiful country house is now maintained as one of the finest hotels in the world. A retreat from the modern world, guests come to view the breath-taking fall foliage, to ice skate and snowshoe through private forests, or to swim, play a set of tennis, enjoy a cocktail over a game of croquet; in short, to live the country estate lifestyle. A spa and fitness center, first class wine cellar and gourmet restaurant are the crowning feathers in Blantyre's cap, and the reason that people come back again and again to celebrate the beauty of New England, and one man's timeless love.

On 117 acres of lawns and woodlands, guests can find peace in nature; and in sun filled rooms decorated in an eclectic mix of period pieces and treasured heirlooms. With fresh flowers, and sinfully soft sofas and chairs, guests can experience the charm and elegance of the gilded era. The Potting Shed Spa offers massage and body treatments, while a gym, four tennis courts, scenic trails for hiking or snowshoeing, a heated swimming pool and even a private ice skating rink, offer plenty of choice for outdoor activity. Dining is a special event at Blantyre, with tables set with sterling silver, fine china and crystal, and in the kitchen under the knowing eye of Chef Christopher Brooks the finest ingredients are used to create a memorable menu. Escape to a finer time, and enjoy the pleasures of a gilded era.

A beautiful property, with old world charm, gracious and attentive staff and conveniently located to all arts and other attractions in the Berkshires. It is expensive, but well worth it if you are looking for a very special experience. If you are looking for a very special dining experience, we recommend that you book a dinner there as well. The food and the service are impeccable.

Wonderful as ever! Service, food, amenities and the grounds...lovely! The hammock is especially nice and the staff are so very helpful! We will be back again soon! Wonderful wine cellar and dinner. Love the pianist!

While the Blantyre offers the same world-class service that we remembered from 15 years ago, it seems that the accommodations have not changed either; they are that much older, and in drastic need of a re-do. We reserved two rooms in the Carriage House, a suite for ourselves and a regular room type for our son. Our suite felt extremely tired - worn out, actually. A Bose cd player that must be from last century, a broken luggage rack, and a towel rack that fell apart when I pulled a towel naturally. The mattress aggravated a bad back, and the two televisions both are smaller than my computer monitor (televisions are not a must, but if there is going to be one, it should be up to snuff). The shower is a small stall with what seems to be vinyl lining. All in all, the accommodations were extremely disappointing. As mentioned above, the service is excellent; we had a lovely day by the extremely nice pool, with full food service, fresh towels, etc. The full breakfast also was quite good and, again, the service was excellent. Unfortunately, we would not return here unless the rooms were completely renovated. While we appreciate antique motif, in the case of the Blantyre, the feel is one of shoddiness and lacks the quality to be expected for a renowned property that is ranked amongst the best small luxury properties in America. And, if one desires to visit Lenox, there are other suitable properties: the Wheatleigh, for those who want a fresher spin on the old country manor theme, is a higher quality option albeit at a higher price point; and the neighboring Cranwell, for those who don't mind the crowds of a large resort, with the trade off of numerous activities and not bad value.

This our 3rd trip to Blantyre. Every other year or so we take a New England tour of CT, MA, and VT. We always stay at Blantyre when in the Bershires. We love the Old Bathouse cottage. It is a two room suite with small kitchen and deck and great views of trees and mountains. The grounds and the main house at Blantyre are beautiful and the service is very good. They have a great breakfast. We also brought our Pomerian dog.

Blantyre is among the most memorable luxury properties primarily because of the quality of the staff. They succeed is delighting their guests in unexpected ways. The fine dining, extensive wine collection and spa are all remarkable.
