Wheatleigh in Lenox, Massachusetts

Welcome to Wheatleigh hotel, one of America's premier country house hotels, where bucolic charm meets boutique elegance on a glorious countryside in Massachusetts. Once a private villa, Wheatleigh has been spectacularly restored, paying homage to Europe's stunning Italian palazzos, complete with polished Tiffany windows and simple, refined finishes. Clean, neutral tones and original museum quality art adorn the halls and walls of guest rooms, while posh amenities, like in-room fireplaces and antique soaking tubs establish a regal atmosphere reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance. With just 19 artfully appointed suites the superlative staff does not skimp on the lavish details; come see why Wheatleigh is counted among one of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Even dining is an august experience at Wheatleigh; the hotel's refined eatery, The Dining Room is a recipient of the coveted AAA Five-Diamond Award. A glass-enclosed portico glows with a combination of candlelight and natural light, and the view is nearly as delectable as the dining. Acclaimed chef, Jeffrey Thompson's seasonally shifting menus are set off by impeccable wine pairings and are served by Wheatleigh's attentive, yet unobtrusive staff, leaving you to enjoy a sensual, sophisticated dining experience. Also, tucked away in the hotel, The Library provides an equally delicious, but more casual catalogue of cuisine certain to satiate the most discerning palate. With a setting as picturesque as a hilltop palazzo, Wheatleigh offers an idyllic location for weddings, honeymoons, or "just because" romantic retreats. Conveniently located near New York and Boston for those who hope to retreat to the city for shopping or sightseeing, Wheatleigh is the perfect country escape for those seeking romance and relaxation against a breathtaking country backdrop.

Sunday lunch, four of us, none young, and my first visit. The large dining room of a first class hotel, quiet atmosphere, plenty of space. Simply put the food was exceptional, the service beyond polite and professional. Right up there with the best dining experiences we've had in the northeast. And we're very hard to please!

The Wheatleigh is a true gem. The service is bar none INCREDIBLE. From the second you arrive you feel so welcomed and taken care of. Words cannot describe how good the service truly is. As you drive up the driveway to the property along the manicured gardens you arrive to a beautiful hotel. The hotel has 19 rooms so its very intimate. We were greeted by name upon arrival and they offered us a glass of champagne as we checked in at one of the tables in their garden. When we arrived to the room all our luggage was already in the room along with a bottle of champagne. The rooms are beautiful. You will not want to leave. Our room faced west towards the lake so we had a spectacular sunset. The hotel is also very very dog friendly. They prepared an incredible meal for our dog. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was relaxed and delicious. We have stayed in great hotels all over the world and the Wheatleigh is among the best I have ever experienced. I cannot wait to go back again.

Returned for my 5th visit to this spectacular Berkshire property. Beautiful grounds, lovely rooms, terrific restaurant but for me it is all about the service. Every single member of the staff is amazing.

Elegant facility, and of course beautiful views of the Berkshires. Staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. The meals were superb. The summer barbeque was very tasty, but not traditional barbeque fare. The one downside- it is expensive.

This is a luxurious hotel hidden away in the hills of the Berkshires, particularly in the quaint little town of Lenox. The grounds are beautiful, the architecture sumptuous! The home is truly antique---but what a luxurious antique---a French country chateau built on a lovely piece of land. A gift from an American industrial tycoon to his lucky daughter as a wedding gift at the turn of the 20th century. No expense was spared as you will see in all the marble floors, giant detailed fireplaces in almost every room, high ceilings, long halls, lovingly refinished furnishings and all the exterior architecture. Since it was once a private country home, there is a long private driveway to get there. And there are only a handful of rooms to stay at this "hotel" so that means there is tons of privacy, quiet and never any lines or crowds at all. you almost have this place to yourself during non-dining hours. when I walked the hall, sat in the reading room or got ready for bed, I could almost pretend that I really lived there. It was that private and cozy overall experience. The staff all were surprisingly sweet and sincere. Many of these young people are from around the world and were eager to give you a lovely stay. The first night we were there a blizzard kept many patrons from coming to the dinner seating at the restaurant. Since we had a room there we were lucky enough to enjoy an almost empty dining room. We sat close by the fire but not too close to be too hot. The staff was extremely attentive and truly excited and happy to share the delicious food and drink. I got to taste the diverse cheese platter (American and European)... and the chef kept on sending free samples of savory and sweet food to our table, in addition to our entree order. I don't drink alcohol most of the time, but they are proud of their wine list. And for dessert, I did have a glass of my favorite port wine---Grahams. When we left I and my husband felt very pampered and happy. Because we moved, we may never get to stay here again, but this place is one to remember! Truly a wonderful treat.
