WHEATLEIGH IS CLOSING!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Excellent Property that I just learned is CLOSING! Without advance notice, it has become public today that the WHEATLEIGH is closing as a hotel as of next week! I am concerned with my $2900 gift card/credit. I am sure many others have deposits and credits as well. But I could only imagine all of the people who have planned and deposited weddings, much in advance. Such is life. I loved my visits there, and I am sad that I did not have a chance to go back again, and I am hoping that this establishment will honor my credit, and return this not-small-sum of money to me. I spoke with Michael the sommelier today (after many attempts to get through) who is equally heartbroken, and was working hard trying to take messages from the flood of callers. I am posting this to create public awareness, I have zero other information. I hope they return all funds and wish they given proper notice to their clientele.

A very underwhelming property and experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

The depth of disappointment with this property is almost incalculable; I would have given it the lowest rating except that the staff, some of whom are inexperienced, were very earnest and polite. The chef is very talented and provides some interesting choices; it is clear his specialty is a prix-fixed tasting menu, which we had the pleasure of experiencing one night. As for the property itself and the handprint of the inferior management company at the helm, it is a sad place. The furnishings are woefully tired and inferior - the paltry sofas in the "great hall" had upholstery staples evident, looking as if someone threw material over an old piece of furniture and finished the job in under an hour. The scale of soft goods that should be in a lovely reception area is quite silly. Clearly, the management company is not investing any money to keep an aesthetic on a level to which the property is marketed. Further, the room interiors are obviously tired and random at best. looking like someone occasionally buys tables and chairs at weekend flea markets. Besides never having stayed at a hotel whose (now questionable) reputation is so far from earned or truthful, I've never been a hotel guest where every transaction is swiped onto the credit card as it is in process. Does the management company have such cash flow issues that they cannot wait until the guest looks at the bill upon checkout before giving approval to procedd with the charges? This practice is beyond unprofessional and leaves the impression of hacks and pikers. It is clear the personal owners of Wheatleigh have long disappeared and simply want a cash "dividend" given to them by a truly schlocky management group. For the prices charged and sad condition of the place, one should question why they should go for so little delivered.

Marvelous hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

This is a wonderful hotel, with the most amazing views. It was a pleasure to stay here. I hope I could come back. The people in the hotel was very nice. The food amazing!!! But we have problems with the heat in our rooms. Our room was marvelous but a little bit cold for the season.

Disappointed in Wheatleigh!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

We had the impression that there was no on site management, as if the property was running itself. One rarely saw any staff people. There is no elevator for the bedrooms on the second floor. It was a long steep staircase; no one with any walking disability should consider this property. Dining room staff varied from day to day. It is extraordinarily over priced ! Under good management the property has the potential of being an outstanding hotel

Very Nice Hotel and Rooms

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

A very nice hotel. The service is spotty. They claim 24-hour service but try calling the front desk at 9:30 pm and no one answers. Breakfast is outstanding. Dinner, less so. Gnocchi was greasy, The fish a bit tough. Lamb a bit too fatty. We understand the chef was absent the weekend we visited, so perhaps the food is typically better. Our room was very nice. They made certain we had the right pillows. The gym was okay too. Would we go back? Yes.
