Stayed Banyan tree for 2 nights to celebrate our Chinese New Year in advance, at first we were arguing should book Banyan tree or Grand Hyatt, because Grand Hyatt much newer and cheaper rate. After much insist from my previous experience with banyan tree in Thailand, I have convinced my partner to have his first try of banyan tree Lijiang. Smooth check in by Adam and Kristi, then we were escort to our jet pool villa 106, exactly as the photo we saw online. Spacious and grand, feels like in a Tang Dynasty palace. Compare to Lijiang ancient town, we are much prefer Shuhe ancient town, the resort quietly occupied a large land with lavish landscape, even though now is winter. My partner had totally impressed with the stunning view from our bedroom, clear direct view to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the villa was well maintained. Breakfast spread I’ll say is limited but we love it, especially the Yunan Mixian counter, every morning we will order from Chef, remember help yourself with the various Mixian topping. We also had afternoon tea, tasty pastry selection, suggest to add something savoury, additional Chinese dim sum or local delights would be great. Dinner we had it at Baiyun restaurant, good ambience after sunset. During our stay, we went to the renowned Banyan tree spa, I recommend to all, it certainly a MUST. Thank you my therapist Betty really take care of me during the treatment. We basically spent a whole day just within the resort and not feel bored at all. Special thanks to Mr. Bruce Meng who helped a lot for our booking. We left Banyan tree Lijiang with a great memory.

Of all the fantastic hotels I have visited in the world this falls into my top 5. The design is unusual and very imaginative. The have created somewhat of a replica of a walled village.Reception and the gift shop are housed in their own independent pavilions in the front of the property. Our accommodation was a pool villa. It consisted of a small standalone structure was some grassy space and a pool that was completely surrounded by a tall wall. One entered via a doorway from a walk way surrounded by other store walls. The set up provided wonderful atmosphere and complete privacy including when using our pool. The villa itself was a marvel of design and space utilization. A huge master suite in the middle with giant sliding door to the outside. One on side a small, but very comfortable, sitting are with a couch and desk. One could read, write or watch television in a really terrific space. The other side was the magnificant bath, with dual vanities in front of a glass wall the provided views to the outside courtyard of our villa. You truly felt like you were in another world. The staff was terrific. The resort is about a five minute walk to the small village. It was pricey, but worth it.

I went on an impromptu vacation by myself in Lijiang and stay here for 4 days. The “spa on us” package, a few custom day tours, amazing hotel staff, stunning hotel ground with the Jade Snow Mountain backdrop did it. Service: from communicating my itinerary just a few days in advance to actual interactions, the hotel staff is amazing. Everyone is prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and I believe that that everyone genuinely cares about their customers’ experience. With most of them being the Naxi minority often time I enjoy learning additional cultural colors- in the car service, in the restaurant, in the spa, etc. Custom tours: I have to give extra compliments to the hotel tour guide William Wang who thoughtfully planned my tours. He also has a great personality, great English/Mandarin speaking and photography taking skills, all brought so much joy and highlights to my solo trip. Forget about hiring other guide; I’ve tried. Oranges do no compare to apples. Villa & Spa: if you want to be treated like a Royal you should do yourself a favor and book a full service here. The “spa on us” package is unheard of but basically you get unlimited spa. What?! It was quite worth it even if you only get two a day. Who gets two spa treatments a day and a villa with a plunge pool in your room and a full service staff anyways? Did I mention that they even feed you yummy tea snack every time you get rub down? Food: Breakfast selection is plenty and highly recommended. While lunch and dinner are also great, I’d suggest to try the hotel one time and take an adventure out in the old town if you fancy. Location: it’s 5 minutes walk to the quieter Shuhe old town. Just as pretty as Dayan old town, not as crazy or noisy. Banyan Tree is the closest hotel to the Jade Snow Dragon Mountain, also just 20 minutes bike ride to the beautiful Baisha old town (least touristy). Summary: If you want luxury and quietness yet walking distance to places that are happening, this is for you.

We had a wonderful stay here with luxurious villas and terrific food experiences. The grounds are beautifully laid out and the view across the pool to the pagoda and snow capped mountains is breathtaking.

While luxury hotels are not uncommon in Lijiang, we were extremely impressed by the service attitude of the staff at Banyan Tree. From prompt responses to our booking queries at the early planning stage to their attentive service in preparing the in-villa bbq including installing spotlights so that we could see in the dark, we were very much pampered by the staff. Organising tours w Banyan Tree was also fuss-free and our guide William was an excellent companion. He was always sensitive to our needs. Special mention also goes to Tony our driver, who accompanied my mother while she was having a rest as the rest of us continued with our hike. He was a real gem!
