Nice Hotel Away from the Tourist Areas

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

We stayed here for 4 nights in May 2026. 2 nights were part of a tour and 2 nights were on our own. Check in was quick and easy for us at 6PM. We were in room 425. It has a comfortable king bed with 2 pillows for each side. There are power and USB connections by each bed side. There is a table with chairs in the room. The bathroom has 2 sinks. It takes a high step to get into the tub to shower. The room included big water bottle plus 2 smaller glass water bottles, that were replenished all days but 1. The staff is friendly, especially the guys outside who assist arriving guest and those catching rides. The front desk was less friendly but very professional. Housekeeping did not understand English very well. They mostly did a good job, but they did not check and refill our empty soap dispenser in the bathroom one day. The hotel location is far from the tourist center, but close to restaurants and a Lidl grocery store. I prefer to be able to walk from hotel to tourist areas and back to take breaks during the day, but this distance does not allow for this to easily occur. The hotel provided shuttle was great. I was concerned that it might fill up, but we were alone on our first ride into the city at 9. There were a lot more people leaving the city for the hotel around 4PM, but there were still available seats. The ride back at 4PM can take 25 minutes in afternoon traffic. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes from the hotel and from a location near the city center. A couple of negatives are – the elevators are complicated and slow. You swipe your room key card, then select floor 1, 2 or your floor. It then displays the elevator you need to take. You should verify your floor is listed as one of the stops on the elevator or it will not stop on your floor. There were long waits to get an elevator, sometimes over 5 minutes. Viking cruises stays at this property. This is mainly an issue at breakfast. There are long lines at 7am to get into breakfast, as the Viking travelers are all eating early to head out together. This is a buffet (and a very good buffet) but long lines going in, lead to long lines at each buffet station. Wait a while to go to breakfast (7:30AM or later) to avoid crowds. There is a piano player at 7:30AM which is a nice touch. One more tip - Instead of a ‘Do not disturb’ card for your room door, there is a switch next to the bathroom lights. We inadvertently pressed this switch one morning, turning on a small red indicator outside our door, so our room was not attended to that day. That was on us, but this is different than most hotels. Still, this is a very nice hotel, away from the city center.

Good for those in large groups.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Nothing special, just a great big hotel catering to very large tour groups, primarily Viking River cruises. Nice folks at reception and generally very friendly staff, but nothing exceptional. Lifts are old and extremely slow, you seem to wait forever to get lift access. Vet nice and spacious gym, very well equipped. Breakfast selection is very large, but don't go between 7 am and 8 am as it is absolutely full with hundreds of Viking guests getting breakfast prior to their buses leaving at 8.15. Other wise very good.

Great amenities, not so great service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The amenities were 5 stars, but the service certainly was not. The hotel itself is nice - a bit corporate looking, but still pretty. The room was well decorated and spacious. The gym had more equipment than expected, which was a pleasant surprise. My husband and I used the gym almost every day of our stay. The indoor pool was quiet and clean. The buffet breakfast was delicious. We did not have dinner at the hotel during our stay, but it appeared that there were several nice restaurant options in the hotel. The subway was conveniently located just a block away from the hotel, and the shuttle service was great. However, it constantly felt like I would be told one thing by one hotel employee, but something totally different by another. I wouldn’t necessarily say that some employees lied to me about certain things, but it was still questionable. Several instances stick out to me: 1. I napped through the regular housekeeping cleaning hours and asked Guest Services if a housekeeper could clean our room at 5 PM since my husband and I had to start getting ready for an event at that time. I was told yes. About 20 minutes later, around 3:45 PM, the housekeeper came up and asked if it would be okay if someone from the turn-down crew could come at 6 PM instead. I said that would be fine as long as they do the same kind of clean. The housekeeper assured me they would, and then left. About 10 minutes later, the housekeeper came back with what appeared to be a supervisor. The supervisor asked to confirm whether I said 6 PM would be okay with me. I reiterated that yes, it would be, as long as they also clean. The supervisor said that the turn-down crew does not clean, and that it was the housekeepers job. It was a very uncomfortable situation to be in as a guest. 2. I had a $100 credit through American Express. I asked a female receptionist if I could use it towards the candle boutique that’s inside the hotel. She said yes, as long as I charge it to the room. So, I bought a candle and charged it to the room. At checkout the next day, a male receptionist told me that I could NOT use the $100 credit towards purchases at the candle boutique. When I told him what I was previously told, he didn’t seem to care. Instead, he offered me snacks from the minibar… 3. When I was at the candle boutique trying to decide on a candle, I asked the salesman if the store would be open the following day because I had to start getting ready for a wedding at the time, and we were checking out the next day. I figured I’d just pick a candle right before we checked out of the hotel. The salesman told me that the store would be closed. I ultimately decided on a candle a few minutes after that. The next day, the store was open and that same salesman was there. It certainly felt like he just said that to make me buy something. I’m not sure if I’d stay here again. I’d definitely look into other options.

👉 Well Done, Corinthia — A True 5-Star Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

They absolutely deserve every one of their 5 stars. The bed was among the most comfortable we’ve experienced in Europe, breakfast was excellent, and the staff were exceptional. A special thanks to João and Hugo—professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. Being slightly outside the city centre turned out to be a real plus, thanks to the hotel’s fantastic shuttle service with drivers who are friendly, helpful, and full of great local advice. Our 10-day stay was incredibly comfortable and smooth from start to finish. The pool lived up to expectations—both beautiful and pleasantly heated. If anything could be improved, perhaps an additional restroom in the public areas and a better shower by the pool, as it only had cold water and we needed to use the spa facilities instead.

Exceptional hotel, the staff all went above and beyond to look after us, particularly the chef and waiter in the sky lounge who were so kind and attentive to our son, thank you ☺️
