The Capital Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas

With palatial accommodations steeped in Southern tradition, the Capital Hotel has earned its renown as "the front porch of Little Rock." Its grand opening in 1870 was indeed grand, with the first electric light fixture installed in a hotel in the South and an elevator massive enough to carry a horse. Since then, this Arkansas institution, a Preferred Boutique property, part of the Preferred Hotel Group, has served as both a welcome respite with luxurious rooms and delectable cuisine and a doorway to the illustrious historic monuments and dynamic contemporary culture of the region for business and leisure travelers alike. Ninety-four lavish rooms, including 15 semi-suites and four suites, envelope guests with designer linens, free Wi-Fi and, from most windows, expansive views of downtown Little Rock. Dine on-site in the elegant Ashley's restaurant or socialize with the city's movers and shakers at the Capital Bar and Grill. Both feature Chef Lee Richardson's "New Americana Cuisine," menus handcrafted from local and seasonal ingredients with cutting-edge techniques.

Just steps from key business venues, including the Statehouse Convention Center, and vital local landmarks, such as the Clinton Library, the Arkansas Arts Center and the Historic Arkansas Museum, The Capital is a hub for visitors seeking the ultimate Little Rock experience. Posh boutiques and eclectic eateries can be found just outside the door, and River Market, the city's vibrant entertainment destination, is a pleasant walk down Markham Street. Visit the Downtown Fitness Center right across the street from The Capital for a rejuvenating workout—admission is complimentary to hotel patrons. Active guests will also find plenty of adventure in the outdoors, from golf and tennis to hiking, fishing, hunting and kayaking - the concierge at The Capital will be happy to arrange half- to full-day excursions. Whether business or pleasure brings you to the city, the "Grand Dame" of downtown Little Rock is a "capital" headquarters for your stay.

This is the hotel to stay if you like the old charming southern hospitality with modern amenities. Room clean with nice sheets and towels.Staff very friendly...upon leaving and returning greeted with a smile. My first time staying at the Capital Hotel and I would stay again.

We stayed for two nights at the Capital Hotel and had a capital time :-) . The front desk staff was extremely friendly and informative, the valet guys were very helpful, and we appreciated the nightly turndown service. The restaurant in the hotel, OneEleven, has excellent food and service; indeed, the best meals of our 10-day trip were eaten here. This hotel is so much nicer than the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, where we'd stayed immediately previously to the Capital (see my review of the Peabody). It's true, as is noted in other less positive reviews, that the rooms aren't the best for business travellers. And they do have a bit of a yesteryear feel to them, but we found that charming. And yes, the tile in the lobby has a crack running through it, but it's a gorgeous floor and the crack adds character. IMHO, people are overly demanding these days that everything be sparkling new -- which is not only not necessary but isn't environmentally friendly. Get over wanting generic aesthetically anaesthetic surroundings already!

What a lovely surprise to find a first class hotel where service reigns and style abounds. The staff at the Capital Hotel was first rate. It started with a phone call asking if we needed anything special during our stay. Really? So I was able to request foam pillows instead of those awful down pillows you find everywhere. When we arrived, we were treated like royalty. And the room was lovely. It was quite unexpected and very much appreciated.

This review is long overdue. We've been staying at the Capital Hotel whenever we're in town for several years now and they always exceed our expectations. We have travelled quite a bit and stayed in some of the most amazing hotels in the world, but the charm and attention to detail at this hotel is always top notch. The service from the doormen, the valets, the reception people, to the barkeepers and restaurant staff, are always right on the mark. The hotel itself is historic but beautifully restored and the restaurants are both wonderful. Our favorite is stopping by for a Moscow Mule in the Capital Bar and Grill at the end of the day, although the breakfasts at the One Eleven are always wonderful too. We always stay in a suite, which is just really one huge room with plenty of room for two rollaway beds, a sitting area, a king bed, and a wonderfully expansive bathroom. It's plenty of room for a family of four. The beds are very comfortable (even their rollaways appear to be quite comfy!), the bath towels are huge and soft, and the bath has Molten Brown amenities, which all add to the luxuriousness of the stay. If you're in Little Rock, you really can't do any better than the Capital Hotel. For service, level of comfort in the rooms, and overall style, this hotel is absolutely the best in the area.

Love, love, love this Hotel. Beautiful, full of gorgeous decor, staff that go above and beyond and ambience that encourages you to relax and sit in some of the amazing sitting areas and just chill. I adored the quality of the linens and pillows on the bed. Slept so comfortably, it was hard to make myself get up! We told them we were celebrating our anniversary and was greeted in a our room with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries , accompanied by a note wishing us well on our celebration. This is not a cheap hotel, it is a luxury hotel and worth the splurge.
